Josgirl-- great news! Congratulations on both!
-
Thanks ladies - I was stressing not getting my period back. Everyone told me if it will come back it will in 3-6 months after last chemo and I was right up against the 6 month limit. And it is great getting back into running. Not getting that peace I get from a long run was really compounding the se and mental issues I was having through treatment.
Since I am not on FB yet - is there any movement on the LV weekend?
-
LV is the second weekend in October. Glad to hear you got your period back. So glad to hear you are running long runs again. Your completion of the half marathon gives me hope that I can get it done next weekend! I have it on the 31st. I ran 9 miles today, which is the furthest yet, but I can't believe how SLOW I am these days. It barely qualifies as a "run".
-
josgirl, thanks for the inspiration! I got it done. I finished my half marathon on Saturday, and even hit my goal time. Crossing that finish line was a big metaphor for me, for pretty much crossing the finish line of most of this BC stuff.
-
kbeee - yay and congrats!!!
-
Kbee - AWESOME. When I started feeling horrible I just realized that while I have done a lot better before on races, what we have been through the last 8 months - to be running at all is a blessing. And 13 miles.....it does feel good huh? For me it was feeling my body work again and finally (hopefully) turning the corner on being able to rely and trust my body again. I signed up for another half in August - need to have the races to force myself into keeping up the training. Number one (non med) way to fight reoccurance is always what I think now when I am waffling over whether to go or not - and makes me feel less guilty about my ice cream binges
. Maybe we can do a short run in Vegas??
-
Josgirl, people are talking about doing a 5k the Sunday night of the Vegas weekend (it's Columbus Day weekend). KJ found it, and I think she may have already registered. Here's a link to the registration website, http://vegasglowrun.com/. I have just started jogging recently, and actually made it 4 miles yesterday without stopping. First time in my life I have ever done that. So I'm thinking I could actually make it across the finish line in October (though I am really, really slow).
-
BetterDay - That is awesome. Just keep at it - it will get easier and easier and the milestones feel great I know. The first couple months are the hardest and then finally the runners high starts to kick in and you can't stop! Keep on going! Running that 5K will be just the greatest way to show just how far we've come in a year....and man I need to get on FB...missing so much!
-
How do you guys get through any of the cancer races? Emotionally I have a meltdown just thinking about it. I would be such an emotional mess if I did anything like that. My DD did Mud hero last year & wants me to join her team this year as she is honoring me . I don't know ...
-
I was very, very emotional at the end of the race. I almost hyperventilated, but was able to get myself out of it, but I did have to sit down for quite a while. It was really hot here on Saturday. I may try to do one more long race this year. I have carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery in July, so I need to see how that goes, and at some point if the lumps that developed after at grafting don't go away, those will go too...hoping to wait until winter for that...after running season!
I do intend to do the Glow Run in Vegas. I am excited for that. I can't wait to do the run with all of you. That run is an untimed run just for fun, and it's a hoot!
My kids all love doing 5Ks, so we will do a lot over the course of the summer and fall.
Josgirl...we'd love it if you'd come to Facebook...you too Special K and 70charger!!!!! We have fun!
-
Kbeee I'm on FB. Guess you missed my introduction . I'll pm you
-
josgirl, I hope the runner's high kicks in soon! Right now it's more sweating and panting. But it is getting easier as time goes on. Kbeee, the run does sound like a lot of fun. You all will be waiting a long time at the finish line for me to show up!
-
Josgirl, KJ is lining up a block of rooms in Vegas for October. If you're interested, you might want to PM her. It's off the Strip, but I think she can get a really good deal if she can get enough people to stay there. People are staying in a bunch of different places, but the most are staying where KJ is reserving.
-
Josgirl and Everyone,
If you aren't in the facebook group, you are welcome to PM me here about joining us in Vegas. Or, better yet, join the FB group. ;-)
-
Hi All...
All this tallk about running makes me want to get back into it at least so I can do the 5k in LV. Right now I can walk 3 miles....that's a start, right?
Hugs,
Kay

Hi Everyone,
Anyone who wants to join the facebook page is welcome to message me here on Breastcancer.org. Include your email address so that I can send you an invite via the facebook group. It is a 'secret' group, so you can't find it without an invite from one of us. It is set that way so that we can speak freely in the group without worrying about whether others can see it. If you have posted here and want to join, just ask. We look forward to seeing you there!
Oh, and we are planning VEGAS for October 10-12th. If you are interested, let me know. :-)
I hope all is well with everyone.
