Nice Memorial Day weekend. Cleaned the house (mostly downstairs), went out to dinner with older dd and granddaughter, attended the Morgan Hill Mushroom Festival, vacuumed out my car (ugh!) and ended with a nice BBQ with younger dd and SIL. Marinated flat iron steak, marinated chicken, chili lime shrimp, grilled veggie kebabs and strawberry/blueberry shortcakes with whipped cream. We had a lovely Riesling too. I think healthy diets are great but a super restrictive one that would have deprived me of the pleasure of this meal, would definitely be detrimental to my positive attitude and happiness!

Caryn - wish I'd been at your house for dinner.  Sounds divine!

yes, I want to be at caryn's house for dinner as well!  Sounds yummy.  For a while I was taking a supplement called reservatrol.  It has the property from red wine that is supposed to be good for you.  My doctor laughingly told me to just drink the red wine.  He recommends two glasses a day.  I try to comply though the week of chemo I abstain figuring my liver is working overtime to process the chemo!  LOL!  I have my summer planned around chemo dates.  A week at the beach in June with some fun Ohio relatives and my sister from NC, later in June a visit from a h.s. Friend who lives in the west coast, late July a visit to the massanutten, VA area with my sis and her DH, a visit in August to Florida to help my mom visit assisted living places, and in-between spending time with my grandchildren.  That will probably include a Busch Gardens and water country trip sometime in July.  Another trip to the beach at the end of August with DH and his brother and sister-in-law.  Then in September my DH is taking me to Montana, an item on my bucket list.  I've seen 48 states, just need Montana and North Dakota.  The Alaska cruise is a must for anyone who can do it.  We did it several years ago and combined it with the train to Denali.  We did a bit of salmon fishing which was awesome!   I would do that again in a heartbeat if I didn't have so much already on my plate!

Beautiful, Glenna!!!!  Congrats to the happy couple.    Your onc sounds like my onc, she says just enjoy the wine, in moderation of course, but she says it is good for us.  Very cool about your trip to MT along with the other destinations, happy travels!!

Caryn - the menu sounds delicious!!

Glenna, You daughter was a  beautiful bride!  What a great setting for a wedding.  I use to camp there as a kid, I always loved that island.

Caryn, If you ever leave teaching I think cooking/catering could be in your future.

We went to the Nga Manu nature reserve yesterday.  It's always a fun time; they have native birds.  And they have non-native ducks which you can feed.  Every time we go, my husband ends up with a duck on his lap.  It's quite funny.  I love doing nature photography; not that great at it, but get a good shot from time to time. And I got several good ones this trip!  It was a lovely day.  This is my favourite shot - a tui (native bird).

    kiwicatmom,

Lovely bird, what is it called? I'm afraid of ducks due to one snapping my finger when I was quite small, but I don't mind eating them :) I would love to go back to NZ!

In my never ending quest to learn things that appear to be of no practical purpose, I am teaching myself nålbinding. This pre-dates knitting and is done with a large, flat needle ( traditionally wood or bone) and ones thumb. My ongoing study of Norwegian lead me to this and though I've never taken to knitting or crocheting, this fascinated me. I'm practicing the basic Oslo stitch and am aiming to make a hat once I get the hang of it. You use short, about 2 yards, lengths of pure wool and splice new pieces in as you go. No knots, no scissors! So, soon I will ,probably, be the only Jewish, Norwegian speaking, nålbinding, stage IV woman you know!

Good for you, Caryn!  I keep threatening to learn to knit or crochet and make cat hats. :)  The bird is a tui, it's a NZ native.  They're quite stroppy.  Also known as the Parson Bird as the white tuft at the throat and collar look like a parson.

Caryn, quite a laugh you gave me.  My husband is norwegian and spoke norwegian fluently when his mom was alive.  He says he's losing it now.  All of his relatives are in Norway except his brother.  I communicate with many of them on FB but use google translate.  Most of them speak fluent English.  When we have visited Norway the only relatives who didn't speak English were those from his mom's generation.  Do you plan to visit Norway?  It is a beautiful place to visit!!  We were actually planning to go this summer til the wedding came up.  Not enough $ for a big trip and a wedding!!  I started rosemaling after visiting Norway in 1980 but alas, it's one of the many hobbies I have dropped over the years.  I do stay away from knitting and crocheting .... Somehow never could get the hang of it!

Kiwi, love your cat in the hat photo!!

    Glenna,

I would love to visit Norway, but I started learning Norsk just because I liked the way it sounded. It's also pretty easy to learn (except for those pesky vowels å,æ og ø) .There are twin sisters at my school who are fluent and are more than happy to correct my grammar and laugh at my accent. Other than them, I have no live people to practice with :(

when our kids were young they used to love to ask bestemor (grandmother) for meat balls or meat cakes.  They would ask for "shetkaker" but always made it sound like shitcaca .... And they would, giggle so!  She never got why they thought it was so funny!!

When I reach the end of this feed I always have a smile on my face!  Birds, weddings, Nowegian not-knitting, travel, cat hats and shitcaca! What's not to like?!  Somehow we all strive to keep enjoying the things we love. On the days when I'm afraid I can't keep up, this is a great place to come for a reminder! Thanks for sharing!

Here is my latest exciting adventure:

    image

Me, my oldest daughter who is getting married next year and my younger daughter who can't believe her big sister is getting married!  (⭐️Ladies, you are sworn to secrecy!  The dress is a HUGE secret! No selling pics to the Enquirer.) it's impossible to explain the emotions of the day; some of you know already. One minute she's a little girl playing dress up the next thing you know it's for real!  She's such a lovely person & we're crazy about her fiancè. It is a good thing to watch, life going on!  It was a wonderful weekend. One I will always treasure.

    Here's to dreams coming true!

Vadre, oo la la, love that gown!  You look gorgeous, btw, and your girls are lovely. All of you are so photogenic!  I may have mentioned this to you before, but about 25 years ago, my dh and I got married in Williamsburg, Va.  It was just the two of us and a 'marriage commissioner'; we said our vows at a gazebo at the 'Benjamin Waller' house in the historic Williamsburg area.  Two years ago we revisited for the first time since then, taking our college age son with us to see the place we wed.

Vadre - what a beautiful dress for a beautiful bride & family!

So, I learned how much easier I sunburn now, but thankfully, I learned it by climbing up to the acropolis in Athens. Yes, I was just in au/nz & yes I was insane to plan 2 overseas trips this close together. I planned this one when a friend passed from his cancer that spread to his liver at what would have been his 18 month mark which was also mine. I figured no time like the present to take this trip I've dreamed of for many years. Now my fake money(credit card) has said this is about it, but thankfully my parents helped with a lot of the previous one as we went together.  Well worth the money & sunburn!

    nbnotes,

Three cheers for travel! If my money was unlimited, I'd buy a tiny condo near SFO, and spend most of my time traveling and use the condo as a base for seeing my family. It never gets old for me.

Vadre - how beautiful  you and your daughters are!  And what a stunning dress on a stunning lady.

Nancy - hope you enjoyed NZ and Oz.  And wow!  Greece.  You go girl!

For those of you who followed the Kate and William tour down under, Princess Kate's favourite picture from the trip was one taken by Simon Woolf.  (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/gossip/la-et-mg-kate-middleton-prince-george-favorite-photo-new-zealand-20140428-story.html).  I'm taking a photography class from him on Sunday!

I'm off to Auckland next week for business, but hope to catch up with some friends while I'm there. And while this may not seem like fun to some, I got approval to make a job offer to a lovely young lady today. She'll be working with me in Wellington, and I think she has incredible potential. Some of my best times are working with the young university grads and seeing them blossom and grow. So I'm really looking forward to working with and mentoring her.  Ironically, she's American, but has been living in Australia for the past 8 years and has now moved to NZ.  So double the fun!

    Hugs to all,

Whoo hoo!  Every year for about 10 years in Vegas (when I lived there), Larry Carlton had a concern either on or close to my birthday.  I love his music, and I've really missed going to his concerts. You may not recognise his name, but it's a fairly sure bet you'd recognise his music if you heard it. I'm signed up to his website and supposedly have things set up to notify me if he's ever in NZ. But no joy. By chance, I saw a teaser on the news that he was going to be interviewed - and he's playing in Wellington tonight!  And there are still tickets available!  My husband doesn't want to go and would just be a grumpy gus if I insisted.  So I had a bit of  a pity party and then had an epithany - a former coworker is single and about my age and usually up for an adventure.  So I called her and we're going to the Wellington Opera House tonight to see Larry Carlton in concert.  My birthday is next week, so it's even better!

    Hugs to all,
    Terre

Last night I had a fabulous evening with some bco members in San Francisco. Most were on the California Dreaming road trip and were in high spirits as they enjoyed their CA journey. We had dinner at a restaurant with a beautiful view of the water and Alcatraz Island. Go to the last page go this thread to see a picture of this great group:

Each and every one of these women were smart, beautiful and just a whole lot of fun to be with. Good food, good drink, and lots of laughter are the best medicine. I had a great time. Thank you all!

Terri. That sounds awesome !!! How was it?

I love to read this thread and am so jealous of all the fun you guys are having. Dang bone pain keeps me at home sitting or sleeping usually.   Get out pretty much only to dr or hospital since riding makes it unbearable.  I check this thread daily and love seeing so many  stage 4 people doing so very many fun things. You go girls!!!!

Well today I felt up to it and me and my oldest ds (12) went for a long ride in the country by car and got out  and walked at a couple parks. He thinks he is much to big now to even swing ;-(.    The sun was shining, windows   Down, radio on. We had a great time!!! We talked and laughed the whole ride.  It was great to see him smile so big for so long   Yea!!!  Back home and still feeling great.  Hooray.

    PattyPepper,

I'm sorry that pain keeps you at home but so happy to hear that you got out and enjoyed the day with your ds. I would also like to thank you for encouraging us to keep having fun. None of know when this disease might place more restrictions on our lives, but let's enjoy whatever we can!

Caryn, that sounds like great fun!

Patty - so glad you got out and about.  And sorry that the pain limits you.  I complain about the aches, but recognise how fortunate I am that it's not debilitating.  So long as it's not a long walk, I'm still good to go for the most part.  And it's the arthritis in my foot and knee that hold me back more than anything.

And as Caryn said, thanks for encouraging us to have fun.

I almost skipped the concert last night because my husband didn't want to go.  So I was thrilled to find someone who did.  Turns out that she and I like many of the same types of events, so we've made a plan to reach out to one another when a potential event pops up.

The concert was grand. Larry played for 2 hours (!) and had a drummer, bass player, and keyboard player with him.  They were all fantastic musicians.  Larry played several of his old Steeley Dan songs, along with some jazz, blues, and rock.  And the friend who went with me is now a fan - always made better when the person you're with really enjoys the music.

    Keep having fun, ladies!

I don' travel far from home but there is plenty to do in my area. Today there was a fund raising walk for the American Cancer Society this morning in Fort Lee NJ. they call it the George Washington Bridge Challenge. There were a couple of  different choices the 10K run or the 5K walk. DD, future son in law and I did the 5k walk. half way across the bridge and then down to the bottom of the Palisades (with shuttle buses to get you back up to Fort Lee) At the begining of the challenge there  were tents with water and energy drinks, and a tent with wigs. Here is a pic of DD and myself wearing the wigs. DD has the red one on.

    image

We made it to the finish line

    image

I also took a photo of the little red lighthouse that is under the bridge on the NYC side for those of you who know the children's book "The Little Red Lighthouse.

Flower gardening was my hobby for over 20 years but I completely lost interest
after the bc diagnosis in 2011, leaving dh to use the weedeater to control
weeds & overgrowth. After a three year break, this spring I got back into it.
DH and I started by trimming a dogwood and two apple trees. We removed small
evergreen trees and shrubs dead from the brutal winter. I’m thinning out overgrown perennials, pulling
weeds & mulching one small section at a time; I planted some new perennials & shrubs & started a small herb garden that I always wanted. I guess the break was kinda good, I have a bunch of fresh ideas. Our yard is not big, but I’ve planted
enough perennials, shrubs & trees over the years so something is always in
    bloom from spring to fall.

My body aches. Arimidex is so very hard on my joints, back,
ankles, feet, ect. It’s an effort to get
down on my hands and knees to work in the dirt, a constant reminder my body’s
seen better days, but I keep pushing past the soreness. It's very satisfying tending to the flower beds.
