bluewillow,
Don't know if mods can help as the pic forum is not part of bco. You can pm lilah or nowhere girl to recover the link.
-
bluewillowskys, if you send a Private Message to one of the Picture Forum's administrators - Lilah or nowheregirl - they can send you the information you need to re-connect with their off-BCO forum. We're sorry to see you're having a recurrence!
• The Mods
-
bluewillows - private message me here on BCO and I will help you. I too am sorry you've had a recurrence.
Cindy - private message me here. No need to share your email address.
-
Could I please have access to the pic site. I will willingly have apic of my chest posted to reciprocat. TY.............Kamein
-
Kamerin,
PLEASE, read the first post on the first page to understand how to gain access to the picture forum it is not part of bco and is run by volunteers. Read back a few posts which will help you understand this.
-
It seems that double mastectomy is the norm here. Anyone else have unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction? I'm struggling to with the decision to tamper with the "healthy" side for symmetry.
-
Sorry for the belated reply, kayb. Unfortunately there is no way to reverse the deleted first post since it was deleted by a member. If nowheregirl or Lilah want to post a new thread with the information that's in the informative second post, we could lock this thread and refer members to the new spot - they can just let us know by PM.
• The Mods

little chicken,
This thread is for those inquiring about a private, non-bco picture forum. Please search the mastectomy threads or start a new thread there to get some responses to your question.
-
Mods... I know I had asked the same question a long time ago about moving the first post up to the top... Can nowheregirl, who deleted it in error, request to have it restored?
-
Ladies -- thank you for your interest in streamlining this thread. Nowheregirl and I will figure it out. And Mods: thanks for the offer of locking this thread and linking to a new one. We're discussing and will let you all know.
In all honesty, people frequently don't bother to read the first post (whether it's blank or not) -- how many times has Whippetmom had to ask people to refer to the first post on her thread, which is visible on EVERY page and where she asks for specific info? (My case in point). And this is true of MANY threads. So I'm not sure it will make a big difference. With that said, it might help a few, so we will see!
Cheers,Lilah
-
Lilah - in the meantime, us oldies, er, veterans, can help direct traffic!!!
Thanks for all that you and nowheregirl do!!!

Hi all,
I have read the post at the top and asked for access to pictures as I have so many decisions to make. I see that I am supposed to post first.... but what am I supposed to post?? I am lost right now! I am 46 and I was diagnosed last week with breast cancer. I went for an MRI this week and I will meet with a surgeon tomorrow. Surgery should be scheduled in a week to 10 days. As I understand it now, the cancer I have is enclosed in the milk duct and has not spread. However, I have 2 sisters who have had breast cancer. Both of them had lumpectomies and then the cancer recurred and they had to have mastectomies. I have a paternal aunt who also had both breasts removed due to breast cancer. My mother also had cancer - it probably started as colon cancer but we are not sure. So, because of the family history I am 99% sure I am going to have a double mastectomy. I am seriously considering having reconstructive surgery but that is where I am totally lost! I am currently a size EE cup. I definitely want to go smaller! So, any advice is greatly appreciated.
Blessings,
Kristi

Kristi,
As far as the picture forum goes, please remember that it is NOT a part of bco. The woman who run it use certain criteria to determine who can have access to protect the integrity of the site and the privacy of the members. Have you posted questions and read through the recon threads here, on bco?
-
Hi, Kristi -
I understand your confusion. Exbrnxgrl is right... the gatekeepers to the Picture Forum (a separate website from BCO) want to see that you are a legitimate member here and are here posting not only to ask questions, but to give others support.
Here is a really good summary about understanding your diagnosis:
http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis
Take a look at the home page for the BCO Community, and you can see all the different forums available. Here is the link:
https://community.breastcancer.org/
If your cancer is non-invasive, does that mean you have DCIS? There are many forums for that.
There are also different forums for different kinds of surgeries, which you can join. Especially supportive are the forums for women having surgery in a particular month.
As for sizing, there is a very good thread called "Breast Implant Sizing 101" run by a fabulous member named whippetmom. She is awesome at educating women about the appropriate types and sizes of implants if that's the reconstruction they choose. Just make sure you read everything in the blue box at the top of the page.
Here's a link:

Wishing you the best!

Kristi, Now is the time that you will need
to gather information and make some big decisions. For me, it was a very
stressful time, but I got through it with the help of my doctors, husband,
family, friends, and my breast cancer sisters on this website. Blessings2011 has listed some informative links in her post. Give yourself
adequate time to read about and think through all of your options. Keep in mind that everyone's situation is different. -
can I please have access to the pictures . i had implant reconstruction that bottomed out and am doing a prophylactic mastectomy and implant on top of muscle with strattice internal bra next month.
-
wolfhoundmom,
PLEASE read the very first post, on the first page of this thread to request access to the picture forum. It is not part of BCO and is privately run. Wishing you the best.
-
wolfhoundmom, please read the first undeleted post of this thread to see the process for gaining access to the volunteer-run reconstruction picture forum. Here's the direct link to learn more:
-
kristi... I understand your concern and confusion. Of course if you are having surgery next week, and therefore having recon next week, knowing your options and outcome are important. Personally, I think its a huge decision and may require more than a week to choose the best option for you. Perhaps you should consider a lumpectomy first, and then research reconstruction and then have a MX. A lumpectomy is a relatively minor surgery, easy to recover from, and so it may buy you some time. In the meantime, you can ask questions on the DCIS threads and also read about the different recon options. They include but are not limited to:
No recon
Implants - Direct to implants (using a sling material)
Implants - Using tissue expander and then an exchange surgery
DIEP flap - using tummy fat, no muscle
GAP flap - using buttock fat, no muscle
TRAM flap - tummy fat, using muscle
Lat flap - lat fat, using muscle - often in addition to an implant
TDAP flap - lat fat, no muscle - often used to add volume
BRAVA - fat grafting, but hard to create full breasts this way
I hope this can help you search for different options, and read pros and cons. And once you have posted here often, you can send a PM to Lilah or nowheregirl to request access. It is a tough choice, and I personally interviewed a few doctors, and chose a procedure that was right for me.
-
some time ago I requested access, am not sure how this works, I understand the need for privacy. Does anyone out there have implants over the muscle? My first right side reconstruction was poorly done. Since I had to find a new surgeon and want to be free of the twice yearly mammogram on my natural breast (which was also messed up by my first PS). I've decided to remove remaining breast and go direct to implant with strattice or alloderm, implants on top of muscle. Anyone have experience with fat grafting? New PS will graft to cover implant. I've heard a lot of the grafted fat reabsorbs and am worried about implant wrinkling. This is my last chance to improve reconstructive outcome. I can't afford the physical. mental and emotional costs of repeat surgeries. Thanks for any advice-
-
wolfhound mom,
The moderators of the picture forum, not a part of bco, grant access, not bco. You might try pm'ing them again.
As for your other questions, have you searched the reconstruction forum or started a thread about your concerns? I know that over the muscle placement is less common, but there may be someone on bco who has had that experience. Wishing you the best.
-
Hi, wolfhoundmom - you have a lot going on and you deserve answers.
First of all, go to the top of this page, and look for the dark blue box on the left. Look for Member List, and click on that. Search for nowheregirl or Lilah and send them a PM requesting access to the Picture Forum. They are the only ones who can grant access, and they do get busy, and sometimes PMs don't go through. Keep trying.
Secondly, in those same dark blue boxes, right underneath Member List is a box called Search. Click on that, and put in some of the topics you need help with: over the muscle implants, direct-to-implant reconstruction, strattice, alloderm, or fat grafting. That should take you to the threads that are already on the BCO boards with lots of information on each subject.
Hope this helps!

Hello
Is there anyone who has heard of any picture-collection on the internet, where you can see both reconstructions with round implants and with anatomical implants? I'm discussing rounds or anatomicals with my PS and I really can't decide, and I've googled SO MUCH about this but I can't find any place where they actually compare the looks of the results of these two types of implants.
Please let me know if you've found something on the web!
/ DuvanPS. I've had anatomical implants before I had my mastectomy, but then it was for augmentation. And I didn't really like the shape, I found it too "pointy". But am worried that rounds might be too much like "melon halves", now that I have no tissue of my own.
-
wolf. I don't have implants but when deciding what I wanted to do, my friend steered me away. She had direct to implants and over time they have migrated to her armpits. Not sure if that's common but I guess it's one thing that could happen.
-
Alloderm helps implants from migrating
mine haven't gone anywhere. -
That shouldn't happen if the pockets are prepared properly and the implants are sized to the pockets. I guess nothing is impossible, but it isn't the norm for implants to migrate to the armpits.
-
Hi, I was given permission to view the picture forum but I have no idea where that info is. I don't see it in my private messages or my email. Would you let me know how to access it pls. Thanks.
-
lalli,
You should have received info on how to access the picture forum via pm unless you requested that it be sent to your email address. Please re-check for that message or look in your spam folder/trash if you believe it went to a personal email address. If you can't find it, you will have to contact lilah or nowheregirl again.

Hi there!
I'm mostly active in the May 2014 chemo group. I was diagnosed in March with IDC. 2 cm, ER/PR+, margins and nodes clear. Still waiting for my BRCA testing to come back. I've just completed my 3rd round of chemo (see siggy, which also has a link to my blog) and am starting to freak out a bit.Originally I was only going to need radiation.
Then my oncotype came back with my risk of recurrence at about 25%.
My husband and I opted for chemo, basically a coin toss, really. Hoping that I don't have a recurrence and knowing if I did develop cancer again at least we did everything we could to prevent that this time around.
Now I'm almost done with chemo and I think I want them off! I don't ever want to do this again. Just the thought of it makes me panic a bit. Everyone says "Oh you're so strong" and all that crap. You know! I'm not strong. I'm a total wimp. I want out of this ride.
Anyway, so here I am. I want to know, if a woman has a dmx and reconstruction preventatively are the results different (better?) than if you have a DMX to remove a bunch of cancerous tissue?
Thats where I'm at. I just need to make decisions and ask questions of those who have gone before me.
Thanks!
-
lespring... no, the results should be the same.
