TRIPLE POSITIVE GROUP

Hi Sarahsch others have already mentioned part of my speech. Also note that triple positive is one of the easiest breast cancers to treat thanks to Herceptin and now perjeta. When I started bco.org forums this thread didn't exist. The gal who started it TonLee and I did treatment together online in this forum. Later on she started the thread (BTW she is doing great and very rarely is here. We are linked on facebook). You'll still be in shock for a bit even once treated but in time you will realize you are still you are you are still here. Cancer diagnosis does not automatically mean death. Most of us do just fine and live our full lives never to deal with breast cancer again.

lago - thanks for sharing thoughts like this as well as so many other observations/thoughts.
you will realize you are still you are you are still here. Cancer diagnosis does not automatically mean death. Most of us do just fine and live our full lives never to deal with breast cancer again.
I'm completely serious when I say the following: have you ever considered writing a book? Your "back away from the ledge-isms" along with your practical, no-nonsense way of encapsulating so many of the emotions that go along with this disease would make for a great handbook for those who are at the beginning (or any point) in this journey, or as Jenn called it - and I like her word for it better - experience. I'll never forget her "Jenn is having a cancer experience" post.
Another saying I like comes from one of my friends (Nicole) who started chemo in December 2013:
The only way out of the chemo valley is through the chemo valley
-
LeeA over the past 4 years the women on these threads have said I should:
- write a blog
- write a book (one title suggested was "men like cracks and other sage breast cancer advice")
- Do stand up.
Well there are lots of blogs and books out there from other people I'm not so sure mine would be able to stand out. I'm just another cancer survivor like you gals. There are so many other women here that could do the same. And although I can be funny, I don't think I could seriously make a living at it… actually I know I can't.
What I do instead is continue to pay it forward here, through ACS's Reach to Recovery and Imerman's Angels support.
and the main reason is I spend my time feelancing and looking for a real full-time job. I lost my full-time 5 months before diagnosis. Have yet to land a permanent job. Just temp and freelance.
-
Lago u do a wonderful job paying it forward, I know how much everyone appreciates all u do, u've calmed people, u've cheered them up and u've been kind to everyone. But I do hope u find a job that u love and u can still do both.
-
And camillegal you just crack everyone up. Putting a smile on everyone's face is so valuable. Now you are the one that should do stand up. I still can't believe we haven't met yet.
-
Lago LOL, my standup would be quick, I only stand for a few minutes at a time.
-
Lol!!!!!
-
cami dear you are so freakin funny!!!!

Hi my lovely, Triple Positive ladies.....well, I never thought it would get here , but this weekend marks the day 1 year ago at the age of 32 that I got the call in my 8th English language arts classroom that I had cancer. I was completely blindsided by the diagnosis as I had ZERO family history and no genetic risk factors. With 2 little girls to live for (ages 5 & 7), I've come a long way both mentally and physically and am in SUCH a better place than I was on May 24th 2013. To those newly diagnosed, I PROMISE that time heals and I am out of my depressed slump and back to living large and appreciating and having an even bigger heart than I did pre-cancer. And THAT is my silver lining. So take that cancer, and go fuck yourself👊

-
Nichole, you are inspiration to others, and I love the shirt!
-
Nichole what a nice happy speech to wake up and read. Thanks for posting and you go girl!
Are you keeping the hair short? Looks great on your. -
Hello ladies! Just read pages and pages trying to catch up. I've passed my two year mark and am out living life! My oldest just graduated summa cum laude from Springfield College. So proud and so blessed. (Momwriter, I am just outside of Hartford.)
Planning on having a prophylactic MX and DIEP reconstruction this summer. I had a UMX two years ago and I am now ready to take the next step. Two things I would only hear in a breast cancer surgeon's office..."Oh my gosh, you look wonderful! Your scar is so light!" and "There's not much fat in your belly to work with." Hello? I am thirty pounds overweight on the conservative side. I am getting very excited. Done with being lopsided.
To those of you having leg and/or hip pain, mine progressed throughout my Herceptin treatment. While other people tried to convince me it was not related, it went away after my infusions stopped and I am sure that was the cause.
-
Nichole--WONDERFUL and I'm glad u posted this, it's such an inspiration for others and u look beautiful.
OK let me explain a little of what my day will be like. I'm going to my DD1 home with a lot of my cousins and it's always so much fun. And over the last year I have become another source of their amusement--My flying organdas--Since they have all shifted all over the place and for some different reasons my stomach makes noises like a construction crew is living there, I know they finished the mall, now they're working on a condo and since have added a pool. Well believe me this is what it sounds like and anyone in hearing distance and seeing distance can actually now see movement there and hear all the loud noise coming from that area and since my intestines have moved onto my side u can hear it on my side. And as my cousin says---Let the party begin and they sit around me, making bets on how loud it will get and who spots the first movement and how many--They could care less that I have pain with this, they anti up and 1 person wins on who gets the most and I keep track. So that's one of the games we play, beside how many times I fall. Last time it was only 2 times so they fear I might be getting better and I no long can help them make money on that one. I really do have a loving and caring family, but a few beers and they could give a chit.
Now I truly hope u all have a decent day today and can enjoy some good weather, I plan on going swimming this afternoon, well I don't want to tell u what they do to me there, except it has to do with strengthening my lungs. And yet I look forward to this during the summer months. I know this sounds bizzare but we're all a little off with our humor.

Dxat32, I really needed that encouragement this morning. I'm about 4 weeks into treatment following surgery. This Friday when I went in my white cell count was low. I've felt rotten ever since. Nasty taste in my mouth is one of the worst. No energy. My hands are a mess so back on steroid and now antibiotic. Sometimes I wonder how I'll ever get through this. It's good to know there is the other side to get to.
-
Dx I'm so glad u posted and u look beautiful and yes efc hang in there, this is a hard time for you but u will feel better.
-
OMG CAMI!!! I have tears streaming down my checks after reading that and they are NOT taxotears!!! I haven't laughed so hard since I was diagnosed and boy did I need that!!! thank you thank you!! LOL
Dxat32 and vballmom - thanks also for the encourgaging posts this am - always needed.
But Cami - I am saving this post and when I am feeling down - I am gonna open it up and read it again and read it outloud!!
-
oh no cami - you took it down LOL
Glad I got to see it before you did LOL
-
Damn I missed cami's post. I was out power-walking.
-
i missed it too.
Just woke up. LOL -
hey ladies. I'm a bit down today. My temperature is a bit low and I feel tired and dry mouthed. Aldo had a good cry again. Every time I have a bad day I feel like the end is near which I know us silly.
Hubby and I were chatting yesterday about possibly buying a can am motorcycle in the next year or 2 and I heard myself say what's the point I'll be dead anyways
Then I come back to this forum and feel much better
My remaining hair is brittle and I'm too scared to shave be she's it truly hurts in spots. I'm amazed how hard it is got me to lose my hair in bits and pieces
You ladies truly pick me up and I could just use a bit of that right now!
Have a good long weekend my us friends!!!!
-
football - if you buzz your hair it may hurt less. I did not shave mine down to the skin, I left about 1/4 inch by using a clipper with a guard. Not all of it fell out but my scalp hurt less after that. Sorry you are having a down day - try to focus on how many of us post on this thread who share your stats and are doing just fine.
-
Football, we have all had terrible days. I remember there were a few days after tx 3 that were horrible for me. Depressed, ready to give up, cried a lot, and like felt like "what is the point?". Both physically and emotionally I was a wreck. DH was really worried that I was ready to throw in the towel and give up. Those were my darkest days. But it DOES get better! Not all at once, but it does.
Losing our hair is hard! It is part of what defines us:, the blonde, the brunette, the one with the long or curly hair or the cute cut. It might be easier to have it all gone at once than the slow process of losing it a little bit at a time. And you hair too will come back. Hang in there, it will get better ((((hugs))))
-
hi footballnut !
Think every one of us knows exactly what you're feeling right now. We've all been there.
I was fortunate in that I didn't have any major setbacks due to SE's but I found the psychological part the toughest. It is and will continue to be a roller coaster of emotions . Some of this is actually the result of chemical/ hormonal changes due to treatment. The steroids you take can cause a high and then a tremendous letdown . The rest ... Think that for me was because the disease & treatment struck at all the parts that made me feel like a woman . Hair was just one.
Now more than 2 years PFC I have come back changed forever but in so many ways stronger and better.
The scalp does hurt but just know within a few months your hair will start growing again!
I think I would start thinking about what color bike you would like. Suggest you don't pick a trendy color cause you'll be riding it for a long, long, long time . Ranger red, white and blue would nice. Just sayin!
-
tx for ur prompt posts! Uve brought a smile to my face and made my day when I really need the boost!!!!
Ashla red white and blue sounds great! And a horn that goes " hey hey hey hey hey"!!! Lol
-
Football I even have a photo of me in that brittle dead hair looks stage. Stinks. But what you need to do is put on your "face". Seriously I don't think I could get through this without make up. I put it on everyday with big earrings and my scarf and did the diva look. I also kept the power walking up. It really helped with my head too so if you can do I recommend.
I never buzzed my hair. When I didn't have my scarf or I looked pitiful. I looked like Gollum. My DH said Darth Vader.
and my husband's thought:
maybe I was a combo of the two
But in a scarf all blinged up I looked fab and felt a little better.
… and you are not going to be dead next year unless you do something really stupid on the motorcycle. I'll be coming up on 4 years NED this August 31st! I feel just like me again except for these big boobie prizes. Damn I still haven't figured out how to dress these things. Seriously it's only a few more months. Its not for ever. You will get through it. We all had our cry days. It's normal.
-
Linda after I wrote it I thought maybe it was inappropriate for some who are not feeling well, but everything I wrote was true, unfortunately.
Y didn't miss anything ladies
-
lago too funny!! I love ur sense of humour! Who would have thought that the day would come when my hubby would roll a lint brush on my head? Well we sat outside and he went at it so my scalp feels a bit better
Of course I cried. It's these tears that are pissing me off so much!

-
footballnut & Lago
Show offs! You both look great compared to what I looked like. My face puffed like a balloon and my belly a larger version. Buddha.... Looked like Buddha... No offense . Metta.....
-
ashla it's the magic of the lint brush!!!! Lol
-
footballnut I'm jealous. You are so beautiful bald. I looked like hell without a scarf.
