Disney! This is my second day at Disney World with my husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, ages 10 and 5. I love, love, love my scooter that I rented. I've be able to stay out about 7 hrs. each day and could have stayed longer. Without it. I wouldn't be able to so much because my back hurts when I walk very long. We're staying 3 more day and then going on a Disney cruise for 3 days.

This trip is very special to me because last year I was dx with mets to my liver the day after we got home from Disney. On Memorial Day I went to the ER and found out I had a 20cm tumor in my liver. I went there thinking I was having a gall bladder attract.

This is the 6th year in a row we've come here, and for a long time I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to come again. I am feeling really good and enjoying the time with my family. I am very thankful God has allowed me to be here. That's what I'm doing for fun!

Enjoy Disney, Trish!  Great to hear the scooter lets you get out and enjoy the time, sounds like fun. Have a great time on the cruise too.  Speaking of cruises, Caryn, I'm excited about your AK cruise.  We did one a few years ago and it was incredible, the scenery is beyond words.

Mrs M, beautiful wedding photo, your niece's dress is beautiful as are you and your sisters.  Glad you had fun in ATL.

Wilsie - enjoy those PB parfait lunches with your DD, sounds like fun.  Always good to get some girl time.

    Stellaratovsky - enjoy San Diego!!

Divine MrsM - stunning!  You look amazing and what a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing the lovely photo and experience.

Trish - so glad you're having a blast at Disney!  Love the scooter idea; have considered it for the same reason (back pain).

Stella- say hello to San Diego for me!  It's where one of my best friends lives and was my home away from home when I lived in Vegas!

    Wilsie - parfaits sound fantastic!

    Pool's open!

I've lived on this moshav for 31 years and last year, FINALLY, we built a pool. It opened for this season on Friday so you know where I'll be hanging out!

Reality hit me a little bit yesterday when I went on a trip to Cape Reinga & 90 mile beach in NZ.  I really wanted to slide/ toboggan(?) down the sand dunes, but I couldn't make it up the hill as my legs were just on fire trying to climb.  (This trip has reminded me of just how flat Florida really is) Between the arimidex based arthritis and my muscles that are impacted by an autoimmune, I was reminded of my limitations big time.  I was bummed, but I just keep trying to remember that if that is the only thing I couldn't do that I am doing pretty well.  I also consoled myself with the realization that most of those sliding down the hill were in their 20's not about to turn 40.

Today was beautiful, though, as we did a dolphin cruise to The Hole in the Rock and saw not only dolphins but a humpback whale, penguins, and seals.  I am truly blessed to be able to do this trip, and that is what I need to be focused on! :)

Feeling good enough to do some gardening. Here is a pic of one of my favorite Irises. Got this one from a neighbor who used to breed flowers. I look around the yard and see so many plants that were given to me. They bring great memories. Also planted a yellow hybrid rose bush. DD wants yellow roses at the wedding so I figured I would try growing something fragrant. Here's a pic of the peach iris and in the foreground you can see the peonys that will open in a few days.

Here's to weddings, trips, pools, gardens, and ice cream.  I hope you all have tons of

fun this summer!  Trish - I'm so glad the trip to Disney is going well.

Nancy - I love, love, love whales and dolphins.  I've been on trips out in the Bay of Fundy (Nova Scotia) and am so moved by seeing whales up close.

NYCChutzpah - irises and peonies are my favorites

My DH and I just returned from a trip to Havana. So much to say about it, but here's a few words and photos - a revolution that deposed a vicious dictator, a new government that provided education, health care, housing, food, and access to the arts for everyone, along with censorship and an economy that is hanging by a thread.  The people don't have enough food or much of anything else to buy, but they are incredibly resourceful - making things, repairing things, growing food in urban gardens.  Some private enterprise is now sanctioned because the government simply can't afford to provide all that it promised. Exquisite buildings built by the Spanish centuries ago, crumbling from neglect. Pre-1960 cars still running and lovingly cared for. Warm and friendly people.  It was an interesting and wonderful experience.

Wow!  Nancy - you've seen more NZ wildlife than I have and I live here!  The whale/dolphin cruise is on my to do list.  And yes, NZ is quite hilly and the hills are steep!

Lovely flowers, NY. Iris are among my favourites.

Jill - Havana!  Looks like an amazing trip and experience.

Love reading about all the great things you all are up to!

Your recent trips sound fantastic, ladies! More, more!

My "fun" these days does not involve travel, but rather reaching notable milestones in recovery from hip replacement. Today I am seven weeks from surgery and doing well. I still have some restrictions in how I am permitted to move, but they should be lifted in another week. With the encouragement of my PT, I ditched the cane earlier this week. Ta-dah!

I am driving and also walking, albeit slowly, at least a mile a day. This tickles me no end after being cooped up for weeks. Believe it or not, my fun is getting out and doing everyday things like shopping and going to meetings, not to mention contemplating the trips we can take in the future,in which I will be able to stand and walk for long period without arthritis pain.

Tina-- getting out after being cooped up is wonderful. Glad that you are able to be out & about.

Kiwicatmom-- the dolphin cruise is phenomenal. We never did see an actual kiwi bird on our trip, but everything else makes up for it :)

So glad the dolphin trip was good, Nancy!  The odds of seeing a kiwi in the wild are quite low, even if you go on a special night tour to one of the predator free islands.  And even when you see them in a zoo, it's dark and they're hard to see.  So don't be too disappointed!

We hear - after the fact - that there were dolphins, whales, etc, in the Wellington Harbour.  By the time I find out about them, they're long gone as it's hours later on the news.  So a coworker and I think that someone needs to develop a notification app - i.e., "the big cool marine mammal in the Harbour" app.  I'm thrilled you saw big cool marine mammals!

Thanks for all the good wishes!  I'm taking information from others on this site, as well as some wonderful quotes, such as "I look awful on paper but look fine otherwise" and  "Hope is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops at all." Emily Dickinson.  As well as ideas around what we'd like from people.

Guess I'd best get back to writing up my notes for it.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Just honoured and humbled to be asked to speak and to be allowed to contribute to the cause!  They're also auctioning off men at the breakfast.  Not for dates, but for hire a hubby type stuff.  I've gotten two talked into auctioning themselves. :)

Good luck with your talk, KiwiCatMom.  I look forward to hearing about it.

Tina, So glad your recovery is going well and you are out and about now.

My fun right now is preparing to celebrate my granddaughter's 2nd birthday next weekend.  Just found out that the one on the way in October is another girl!

As a christmas gift from my parents my husband and I were given Red Sox tickets at Fenway, before I was diognosed with stage 4.  I was very apprehensive about going because of not feeling well and the pain I had been having. But I really wanted to go as my dh has never been to a professional game and it was on his bucket list.  I DID IT!  And it was a blast even though they lost.  We took the T watch the game had hotdogs and peanuts and after the game went out for a wonderful dinner.  We had so much fun together.  I forgot about cancer for the day.  It has been so long since we have done something like that. The best part is, is that I believe I can still do fun things in my life.

Thanks to all!  The talk went well.  The breakfast wasn't as well attended as expected but we raised about $500 auctioning off men!  :)  I'm getting my windows professionally washed.  I also bought a young man who loves dogs and I'm going to have him volunteer for an hour at a local animal shelter which has been asking for dog walkers. :)  So, got to give to two good causes at once!  My talk was well received and I used many of the ideas that I got from my fellow Stage IV sisters here at the site.

Lynette - how fun!  What a great experience!

Jill - congrats on the on-the-way granddaughter!  And have a blast at the birthday party - sounds wonderful. :)

so much nice news, a new grandchild, a Red Sox game, trip to Cuba. I was in the city yesterday and went to the main library. There are interesting exhibits in the main rotunda on the ground floor. The one on display now is about children's books. The exhibit is designed to be child friendly. I almost wished my kids were a lot younger, it would have been even more fun with a 6 or 7 year old. One of my favorite parts of the exhibit was the display of the original stuffed toys that inspired the Winnie the Pooh series of books. Here is a pic of the original  Eeyore, Pilget, Tigger and Winnie.

lynette, I see you're newly diagnosed stage iv.  I'm glad you made yourself get out and do something fun.  That's what I had to do after I was diagnosed. Yes,there are times I want to curl up at home and not do a thing and I allow myself do do that.  But there are also things I still want to do like travel and go to concerts and I'm always glad when I make the effort. In the past three plus years, I've done just that; who says we can't, right?

TheDivineMrsM. Yes I was just diagnosed in March and it is so hard for me to leave my safety zone of my home.  There is anxiety that something is going to happen and my body will not be able to handle it.  But I need to live and enjoy life and I hope that this is the start to living my life to the fullest because yes right now I can!

    LSpellin,

Mrs.M is right on. It is an awful shock to find out you have mbc. But once you learn about your disease, get your tx plan in place etc., don't let bc steal any more of your life than it has to, any sooner than it has to. We don't know how much time we have, nor do we know what new tx are coming down the pike. Do as much as you can and enjoy. If you read around the stage IV threads, you'll see that many of us are doing all sorts of things that bring joy, fun and fulfillment yo our lives. Not the life we planned or imagined but life never the less.

LSpellin, I take a small daily dose of an anti-anxiety medicine and it helps me live my life.  About six months after my diagnosis, I had such severe anxiety that I physically trembled. I wasn't even sure what I was feeling, and the doctor was having me try different kinds of anti-depressants to see what helped.  When I finally realized I felt anxiety and not depression, I was prescribed Buspar which is for anxiety only and it made a world of difference. It doesn't change my personality, doesn't make me tired, just takes the edge off.  The first day I took it, I got off the sofa where I felt I'd been a prisoner for weeks, and started doing housework.  I went outside and listened to the birds chirp.  I got back to the daily routine of living.  Many of us like to say we are living with cancer, not dying from it.  I still can get a small wave of anxiety a couple times a day, but I just get busy and it goes away within a minute or two. If you need it, ask your doctor to give you something for the anxiety.  My onc likes to say, "better living through chemistry".

NY - as the daughter and granddaughter of children's librarians, I love love love the exhibit photo!  Thanks for sharing it.

LSpellin - I take a daily low dose of Prozac.  As Mrs.M said, takes the edge off, doesn't change my personality, and helps me live.  When the surgeon visited me after the pin was put in my femur and the cancer was confirmed, he asked me if I needed anything else, and I asked for Prozac (I had taken it before when my family died in a six week period of time and it helped).  So don't be afraid to ask your doc for something.

And Caryn is right - it's a heck of a shock.  But you absolutely have it right - you can choose to wait to die or you can focus on living.  Some days, it's really hard and really scary, but it gets less emotionally shattering with time.  Glad you found this thread and hope you get some inspiration to have some fun and live life as normally as possible!

Today (in the US) is Ralph Waldo Emerson's birthday, and someone posted this on my Facebook page, so I thought I'd share here.

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."

Thought it was quite a good sentiment.
