A  faraway  Dumb Rockers Groupie here. Listened to Queen and the Doors while I sewed yesterday. Just a week until I head off to my nephews wedding in Prague. Wil be on Canada on May 31 cannot wait.

Minor political scandals here as we wind up to an election in September. Mid slinging has begun. Must get moving as the list of things to do today is long.

River Rat ... Bawahahahaha!  You're funny.  I want a badge too.

Jackie ... Know what you  mean about the humidity getting bad.  It's getting really warm this afternoon, so I'll probably run the AC tonight when I go to bed.  So glad to hear your DH took care of the yard all on his own.  Geez ... I asked Tim to do a little bit of weedwacking and instead he said he would buy me a weedwacker that I could manage so I can do it.  huh?

    hugs everyone,

    Bren

Blue & Co.   Can I still be a Dumb Rocker Groupie if I love Leonard Cohen?  His Hallelujah still gives me the shivers no matter who is singing it.   I could listen to him sing ( an do, on CD) for hours.

We are "officially" according to all the farmers at least a month behind this growing season.  Has been in the 50's for days, raining, and oh, my, the fog up here in the hilltowns.  Perfect weather for hibernating, really.

Yesterday a high of 57 and raining.  Today a high of 60 and off and on showers.  tomorrow about the same.  Tuesday, though, is supposed to be 80.  This type of weather is actually pretty typical around here this time of year, though.  Before weather satellites weathermen in the NW just never had a chance.  The weather here is really changeable.  I'm hoping for a good summer this year.  The last few have sucked - I'm not totally sure that it was the weather, though.  It could have just been my point of view - namely out a high-rise window.  This year will be from ground level in the garden and hopefully often on the water fishing with hubby.

Sunny - I'm with you on Cohen's Hajellelujah!!!  I don't like all of his music, but what I like, I love!!

Love Leonard Cohen - he's from my hometown (Montreal) - KD Lang's version of Hallelujah also wonderful.

I was never really in touch with the weather until I retired.  GG - sounds like we're having identical weather down here.  Nice lettuce and kale weather and that's good since I planted a whole bunch.  Suppose to get hot soon though.

Blue - love the picture!!  Explains the whole cat and dog dynamic imho.

Living in California is pretty good these days.  We all get a $194 refund from the power company, twice a year!!  Something to do with corporations paying more until they work on their own energy consumption.  Governor Brown is running again, so we will continue to make progress when it comes to Climate Change, as much as one state can do. Also getting a $1000 rebate on my new HVAC unit.

    Morning Gals,

Getting an early start to the day.  Tim is on his way home and is going to meet me at walmart.  Yay!  I'll have some help carrying everything in from the car.

Warm and muggy already this morning.  Sure hope Tim can get the riding mower fixed today.  The grass grows faster than I can keep up with it.

Sunnyflowers ... So glad you found the KD version.  It's awesome!!  And can move you to tears.

Suzie ... Your hairdo sounds really cute.  Glad you found someone that can do the special treatments.  Speaking of Neil Young, I'm going to see Crosby, Stills and Nash in concert this summer.  My sister already bought the tickets.  Can't wait!

Gumby ... The one neat thing about being in Virginia is there are no snails or slugs. Weird, huh.  The rabbits and deer eat everything in sight though.

Kam .. Great news on the refunds!  It's almost like getting free money!

Need to walk the dogs and get ready to meet Mr. Tim at wallyworld.

    hugs,

    Bren

KD sang it at the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics -- absolutely majestic!

As usual, we folks in Ontario seem to have a very short "spring", which actually translates into a jump straight from winter (cold) to summer (hot and humid).  While I'm not prepared to complain (?!) I just came inside from doing some much-needed gardening and am perspiring as though I'd played 3 sets of tennis!  Where we would be without weather-talk?  Whenever I'm in a tropical locale, I think to myself -- What do strangers talk about when they're waiting in line?

KD Lang rocked that song.  Headphones

Our kayfh and I met for lunch yesterday.  She is a very lovely lady.  Both of our kids were worried that we might be connecting with an online crazy person.  I can tell my son that I have already met the "crazy" ones from here.

When I lived in California, the land of snails and slugs, I put crushed egg shells around the base of all my plants.  Snails and slugs will avoid the sharp edges of crushed egg shell.  It worked for me.  Happy

And another handy tip re small beasties:  placing cinnamon sticks just inside your doors on the floor will keep ants outside where they belong.

Pip -- I'm envying your lunch with Kay!

Bren - Cacau is the Brazillian Keratin treatment that got rid of my post chemo hair nightmare - it smooths the hair so it's not frizzy - it literally gave me my life back.

I'm SO jealous - I love Crosby Stills and Nash too

Pip - SO glad you met Kay

I some how managed to do the grocery shopping yesterday. I sat down on the end of a checkout counter half way through to rest and didn't go down every aisle.

Cooking lasagne for dinner tonight - it gives us 3 meals as I freeze 2 portions of it.

First-timer on the Hallelujah music.  I second Sunflowers statement about it.  Powerful, moving -- puts you in a great place just flowing with it.

Staying cool here since the rain, or cool enough.  Got my overnighter done.  Went well.

Will make some extra next week too since I will take care of animals for a few days that belong to my last client's daughter while she takes a rest break in Florida.  Every little bit helps.

Going to toss myself in recliner now and veg out.

I was going to ask pip57 to describe me as very Sarah Palinesque, but decided that was just too silly.  I can tell you it was nice to meet with a kindred spirit. (I expect most of the Canadians, and some of our sisters from other countries will recognise the literary allusion.) I hadn't realized how important our shared experience is.  Wow! And thanks pip.

Kay, I would NEVER use any Sarah Palin references to describe you.  EVER.

Thank you for making the trip.

ditto on Leonard Cohen and K. D. Lang.  I do like a lot of his music though some of it is pretty off the wall.

Lasagne prepared and assembled - just have to cook it. Can't wait - it's a really nice recipe.

Nice surprise from my daughter this morning - it's Mother's Day here - a delivery from the online supermarket - flowers, choccies, a gorgeous pink mug in a box and some sachets of hot chocolate. She sent me an order when I had my ultra sound last month. So she's really getting into online ordering. Today was a wee bit embarassing as her payment had been declined and I had to pay for it, but she paid me back straight away. I wish we were down there with them. Bubby got really excited when he saw Steve on Skype this morning.

Pip, my friend and I had the same experience with our families the first time we got together after "meeting" on a lymphoma support board and talking on the phone numerous times - my daughters and hers were all afraid that one of us was a Craigs List killer that haunted cancer boards or something.

Yes to egg shells and cinnamon. I've always tried to avoid pesticides and herbicides but since lymphoma I've become quite paranoid about them. I hate seeing the lawn spray outfit at the neighbor's.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms and Happy Relaxy Sunday to all.

Edited to add: I see Retired Libby hasn't been here since the 4th. I hope she's doing well.

River -- In our town here in Niagara, we're not allowed to use any pesticides or herbicides, and absolutely NO salt in the winter to melt the streets of snow.  Of course, the dandelions are in weed heaven here on earth because of this, but at the same time, my neighbours' dogs are free to nibble on grass, which seems to be  their substitute for a spring tonic!  I also keep a container of grass on the enclosed deck for my kitties -- every body needs a little fibre, don't they?

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms here, and those of our four legged friends as well.  If you are not a Mom ( of a human ) then Happy Mother's Day to your Mom.  She did a wonderful thing by sending you along to brighten my day and my life.  Even if she is no longer here but only in your memory -- Happy Mothers Day to her anyway....where-ever in eternity she may be.  She did a wonderful thing and I honor her.

Happy Day to one of the best parts of my life ..... the memory of my dear sweet Mom.  She was my biggest blessing and my greatest fan.

C4C, your town sounds very progressive...and wonderful. Is that Niagara as in the Falls? We went to the Canadian side to celebrate the end of my chemo for lymphoma and quite enjoyed ourselves.
