Supplements

I've just started taking Nature's Way DIM, but what other supplements are the most important. Does it matter what brand they are? I work for a large company that manufactures almost all the the store brand vitamins, herbs and OTC medicines and I can get as much free as I want. Do you think store brands are just as good? I don't work in the lab or R&D so I have no idea of the quality of the raw materials. Even though I can get them free, if they are not as effective, what's the point. I'd rather spend my money to buy the best.

Any advice is appreciated.

What exactly does DIM do? I have seen others post here on DIM as well, but have no idea what it is. I take a multi-vitamin from Whole Foods, and then I usually have 1-2 dropperfuls of a B-Vitamin sublingual vitamin daily. I have some Iodine from Kelp tabs that I've been considering taking 1X a week, but haven't started that.

As far as brands go, I hear that the less fillers, the better. Whole Foods has the best vitamin selection, hands down, as well as staff that are fairly knowledgeable.  I am not sure what the fillers are in vitamins, but I figure the less I ingest that is a "produced" product, the better. I had Nature's Way Vit D tabs before I switched over to the Vitamin D by Carlsons, and I didn't start to feel a difference until I started the Carlsons 2000 IU drops.

Lindy ~ Lucky you, getting free product!  But what do you mean by "store brands?"  If Safeway, Wal-Mart, etc., then, no, I don't believe those store brands, which often include synthetic ingredients, are as good as 100% natural supplements.  If you work for a manufacturer of high quality natural supplements that makes a store brand for Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Sprouts, etc., then, yes, they're the same.  I always ask at the natural foods markets who makes they're store brand.  They'll usually tell you, and it's always one of the major natural supplement manufacturers.

Marianne, DIM is an estrogen modulator.  I use something similar, I3C, and there are others, including Myomin and Grape Seed Extract.  Check out the lengthy Natural Girls thread for discussions on these, or search for DIM to find it discussed elsewhere.        Deanna

There are two good books I read on breast cancer with info on supplements,  diet, lifestyle, etc.

I found them both to be excellent resources with high endorsements.  Loads of practical

information, easy to read,  and with a holistic approach :

    1.  Waking the Warrior Goddess by Christine Horner MD

    2.  The Journey throught Cancer, Healing and Transforming the Whole Person by Jeremy Geffen, MD

The books helped me a great deal after my breast cancer diagnosis last year.
