Janet, well done...good to read that you are feeling great!!
I'm now to start week 4 of weight watchers and I've lost 4 lbs
...I also feel better, probably because I've added more fruit and veg to my diet...
Kathy, how are you going??
-
Hi, Tammy!! Wow, 4lbs is wonderful!!! You are doing great! I am definitely maintaining on WW, just not losing as much as I would like! I am going to try the protein shakes and add more fruits and veggies as well!! I am also stepping up my exercise, adding weights and trying to burn 100 calories each on the elyptical and stationary bike to start the day and then add in some walking and bike riding!!! Thanks for asking and keep up your great work!! Tenaj, I am using the Atkins shakes, only because they were on sale and I am so cheap, he,he,he!!! But thank you so much for the info!!!! I will head to GNC and look for Pure Edge! Have a wonderful weekend!!!
-
Keep up the great work Tammy! 4 lbs WOO HOOO !!!!
Glad to hear your staying so motivated & doing well Kathy! I've never tried the Atkins, but the Puredge chocolate is fantastic :-)

Hi Girls,
I am recovering once again from my second bout of bacterial conjunctivitis. I've used a ton of Lysol. The other day I was fixing my hair and accidentally grabbed the can of Lysol instead of hair spray! Fortunately I caught myself just in time. Good grief! I am a hot mess. It seems like since December with the broken toe and then the flu and later a sinus infection and conjunctivitis twice I just can't seem to win. I am back on the antibiotic eye drops now and feeling better. The roads here are icy, so no walk today. Maybe I'll get on that exercise bike and go for a spin. I need to do something. I've gotten away from exercise too much with all the illnesses.
I hope you all are doing well, and feeling well. Congrats on the weight loss Tammy! You go Girl! Keep up the good work everyone and I hope to be joining you on the success stories!
-
Oh Rocket, so sorry to hear.....feel better soon! The warmer weather is almost here & you'll be able to enjoy those long walks with your pups! I'm going to pick up my bike today, I brought it in for a tune-up. I'm hoping the weather warms up by the weekend. We have had such cold & snowy weather. I'm also looking forward to doing some yard work, maybe I'll bundle up today & do a little.....

Hi, I'm Paula, and I have taken myself on as a project!
I had BMX January 29th, and after a very smooth recovery I appear to be developing lymphedema. That is not a good thing, but it helped me make the decision not to pursue reconstruction (I was leaning in that direction but the LE pushed it over the edge for me), and I have decided to spend my time doing what I can do myself to improve my health. I am overweight and want to shape up and feel better (and of course enjoy the health benefits). So far I have met with a dietitian, seen my internist for a checkup, and have bloodwork (cholesterol etc) scheduled for next week. I'm trying to hit this from all angles. I have access to a gym at work, and have a lot of support, so I'm the only thing standing in my way.
Yay for spring--the cold has made it miserable for getting outside, but yesterday was beautiful, and my son and I went for a walk after dinner, so I feel like I've officially "kicked off" my plans.
-
Hi, Paula, and welcome to this wonderful thread!! The ladies here are very positive and encouraging!! We welcome your input as well!! I also have Lymphedema, and see a LE therapist!! I also do exercises every morning targeting my left arm!!! Walking is great!! Thank you so much for joining us!!! I hope your Lymphedema remains stable!! Exercise and diet will definitely help!! I love to exercise, but I also love to eat, so it is a constant battle!! Coming here sure motivates me, and Imhope to see you here often!!!
-
Paula, welcome!! Walking is a great start. My DH and I track our steps with a pedometer and it helps us to stay on track. Walking is also good to relax the muscles after the gym. Sounds like you have the right head space
Rocket, love the new pic....you look beautiful....and healthy....
Janet and Kathy, hope all is well with you....
-
Hi, Tammy!! So good to see you here!! Everyone great here!!! Welcome again, Paula!!! I went to the gym this morning and rode the stationary bike and elyptical!!!! Plan on walking later in the day!!! Have a wonderful day, everyone!!!!
-
Welcome Paula! You will find everyone here very encouraging! They are some really sweet ladies!
Kathy, you truly are inspirational! Thanks for the compliment on the pic. The dog I'm holding is Baxter. He's a love bug as is his brother Murray.
I am finally starting to feel a bit better. I haven't been sleeping well at all. Last night I did get an extra hour of sleep. I take enough sleep meds, and I fall asleep pretty well, but wake up several times each night. I just can't get comfortable. Maybe I need a new mattress or pillow. Or maybe I need to do enough exercise to get my body exhausted - then it won't have a choice but to sleep.
I hope all of you ladies are having a great day!
-
Hi, Rocket!! Ad much as I would love to take the credit, it was actually Tammy who made the compliment, he, he, he! But yes, it is a lovely picture!!!
-
hi ladies! Everyone sounds like they're doing well, very happy to hear. We dodged a major storm today...it went out to sea. Yay! No snow but heavy winds....it is still so cold here, more than usual. I did get my bike tuned up & I'm ready to go. I've lost 4lbs so far & hope this trend continues. I'm still mostly eating soups, protein drinks, yogurt & eggs. Staying away from the breads & pasta. I haven't eaten pasta in 3 weeks! This is crazy cause I'm married to an Italian & we eat pasta at least every Sunday. Very excited that I will be seeing my children this weekend for my daughters bridal shower. Looking forward to splurging a bit.....so I'll so on track....until then.....have a great one!
-
Great job Tenaj! Tammy, thank you for the compliment! I am happy to report that I have lost two pounds. I too am limiting pasta, bread, and have really lowered my sugar intake. I can't give up the occasional piece of dark chocolate and my prunes.
This weekend we are visiting friends in Charlotte, and I am going to enjoy myself. I'm going to try hard to eat healthy though - plenty of salads. Hang in there Girls!
Love to you all,
-
Hi, Tenaj, you are doing great!!! Have fun at your dear daughter's bridal shower!!! Yes, those protein shakes are great, thanks for the tip!!! Keep up your great work!!!! Blessings to everyone!!!!
-
Kathy does that mean you tried the one I suggested? I can't believe how delicious, satisfying & convenient they are. I was out yest for another eye appointment & packed one to go in the cooler. So much better than stopping for fast food!
Rocket, enjoy your weekend!! Great job on the weight loss!
-
WARNING- DO NOT wash your hair in the shower!!
It's so good to finally get a health warning that is useful!!!
IT INVOLVES THE SHAMPOO WHEN IT RUNS DOWN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU SHOWER WITH IT.
WARNING TO US ALL!!!
Shampoo Warning! I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner! I use
shampoo in the shower! When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole
body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning, "FOR
EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME."
No wonder I have been gaining weight! Well! I got rid of that shampoo and I
am going to start showering with Dawn Dish-washing Soap. It's label reads,
DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."
Problem solved! If I don't answer the phone, I'll be in the shower! -
Dear Tenaj!! I still am using the Atkins shakes, but definitely plan on trying the Pure Edge!! Tammy, thanks for the great laugh this morning!!!
-
LOL at the shampoo! That must be what happened to me!
I am not off to the best start with my "project" but am revamping my plan a little and hoping the weather will cooperate this weekend so I can get outside and work in the yard. With some sunshine and some visible progress, it won't feel like work.
Thanks to everyone for the welcome!
-
Thanks Tammy I am still laughing!!
Hi Paula! Yard work is a great way to get exercise, just remember to drink plenty of water, it really does help!! Working outside is one of my favorite things to do
Have a wonderful weekend dear ladies....(((hugs)))
-
Good to see you, Paula!! Happy Spring everyone!! Yard work is great exercise!! I miss it, now that we live in a condo!!! Enjoy, enjoy!! Have a great weekend!!!
-
I have a question not related to weight loss. How long were you followed by your breast surgeon? I have an appointment in a few months, it will 3 years since my BMX. I am thinking about canceling. For what reason do I have to see him??
-
hi, Tenaj! Good question!! When I lived in Pittsbugh, I saw my breast surgeon twice and he moved to Michigan!!! We then got moved to Alabama, and my new oncologist said I only needed to see her, since I was 3 years out at the time! Since then, I only follow up with my onc!! Hope that helps, hon!!! However, I just thought of this, I did not have any reconstruction!! I am sure the other ladies will chime in!!
-
Hey Tenaj,
I asked my onc that a year ago and she said I only needed to see her instead of the BS. The co-pays were getting ridiculous! I was three years out at the time. I am now four years since my dx. I still see my onc every four months, not because it's the standard of care at four years, but because I'm a worry wart! Hope this helps. Have a great day everyone!
-
Thanks Kathy & Rocket. Last year was a joke. I waited almost an hour, got felt up & come back in a year. Don't get me wrong, I like him as a surgeon, he did a good job but I believe his job is done. Another $40 & office time for what?? Thanks I just wanted to her how others felt.
I had a wonderful weekend. The shower went off smooth & a good time was had by all & I always love having the kids home. I am exhausted though. I worked today too & had the weirdest weather to work in. (I travel to people's homes & they are never shoveled, especially right away) It decided to snow like a blizzard, where I was traveling for work got 5 inches in 2-3 hrs....anyway....I'm just so tired of this weather. Parts of the Island got rain (Montauk) & in the middle where I was, got all the snow. I can't believe people don't think there is climate change!!
I won't go on the scale for a few days as I need to resume proper eating. Have a wonderful week!
-
Dear Tenaj, so,glad that you had such a wonderful time at the shower!! Such fun times!!! I can not believe that you are still dealing with snow and bad weather! Prayers for safe travel and no more snow!! It is April 1st, hang in there!! I have been helping with my DIL in home daycare! It s fun, but good exercise and I am not snacking!!! Hope to see the scale move on Friday!!! Good morning, Rocket,Tammy and Paula! Rocket, Iam sure you are enjoying visiting friends, Tammy, how is your job? And Paula, welcome again!!!
-
Hello, I got back on the scale & as I knew I would be up a bit from the weekend, but good eating since Monday & I am down about 1/2 lb now. Every little bit counts. Now to keep that trend going......I wanted to get outside to do some work & take a ride today but it is still not nice enough... Maybe by the weekend. I do see some of my perennials coming up, good thing I managed to get the leaves off them about a week ago. So looking forward to some nicer weather. Stay well dear ladies!
-
Janet, well done
Kathy, the job is going well but I am feeling a little tired this week.... Can't wait for the weekend!
-
Hi, Tammy!!! Glad to hear your job is going well, but yes, take some R&R this weekend!!! You deserve it!!! Blessings, Kathy
-
Boy how time flies....I can't believe it's Friday already......Tammy rest & enjoy your weekend, everyone also. I hope the weather breaks & I get to take my first bike ride for 2014! Whew...what a winter!
-
Dear Tenaj, have a wonderful bike ride!!!!Hello Spring!!!
