just completed my weekly castor oil pack: 45 minutes, takes a while to prepare. will finish this account in a bit probably
-
you need a toel on the floor, a large plastic bAG TO COVER IT, CUT UP COTTON DISHTOWEL PIECES, CASTOR OIL, A CONTAINER TO SATURATE THE CUT UP DISH TOWEL PIECE, A CLOCK, & FOR CLEAN UP SOAP & ENOUGH HOT WATER FOR YOUR SHOWER. did it again sorry for the caps

new2bc - I wish I could do the trampoline - it makes me have to pee in like 30 seconds! Same with jump ropes. Getting old is so weird sometimes because I used to do both all the time when I was young.

hi,
just got back from the integrative doctor appt. he reviewed my supplements and told me not to take resveratrol bcos it has wine extract (?) in it. he said some natural ingredients have estrogen and it would make tamoxifen purposeless. he then asked me why i was taking those, i told him it is becos of the antioxidant effect. then he recommended the green tea extract.
he gave me a handout, basically i should eat 5+ servings of veggi + fruits daily. plants based diet. no animal milk, recommended almond milk or coconut milk. i told him i was drinking raw milk and he said unless i know the source...like some cows in europe were rolling in grass...lol.
he asked me when i came to the US and thought it's properly becos of the diet...usually it takes about 20 years for the body to have cancer (something like that...i can't remember how he worded it). basically the growth hormones in the cow/milk and other toxins. we went in depth about my stress back in 07...and he said stressed induced insomnia actually promote tumor growth. and he said i should exercise every day and meditate. it doesn't have to be very hard but it needs to be consistent. he said usually ppl who live a long life, they have very very regular schedule, when things happen they still follow their schedule. the body likes the same thing everyday. and he also recommended a book about meditation for me to read. (A new earth: awakening to your life's purpose)....
i also asked him about natural way to block hormones, he said there's not enough track record. if i say someone is cancer free from those supplements, he could tell me someone had the same supplements and had a recurrence. he was convinced about the statistics - a safe way to treat cancer.
he also wanted me to forward my oncotype record to him. he said the score doesn't matter to him. and he wanted to see the details which he'll explain to me when he receives them.
sorry...it's pretty long. but i thought it's good to share what integrative MD is all about. i liked him, very calm and logical.
oh btw, i asked about my vitamin D, it went from 13 to 58. YAY. but he said it needs to be higher. 50 is min. he said 90% of BC have vit D deficiency.
-
i also asked him about turkey tail mushroom, he said that's mostly for digestive organs. but he said mushrooms are good, i think he meant food, not supplements.
-
hjpz,
I go to the bathroom before I start jumping on the trampoline. But I know what you mean. I feel like I need to go again after I start jumping.
juneping,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was reading a book today which mentioned resveratrol and I wanted to add it to my vitamins. I am glad I read your post. I guess I will not add it. What else are you taking besides Vitamin D? I have not had an opportunity to visit with an integrative doctor and it would help me and others to see which vitamins work with Tamoxifen. I am glad you found a very good doctor.
-
new2bc - i am taking vit B, C, D, calcium, fish oil and properly multivitamin as well (will check with my int doc later). CQ10 (still debating if i need it or not...but he said it's fine to take if i want). and the green tea extracts (just ordered it).
-
June, I believe this is true, just from my own observation:
"he said usually ppl who live a long life, they have very very regular schedule, when things happen they still follow their schedule."
Having a regular schedule of sleep, food and exercise cuts down on stress in the body.
-
Thanks for sharing juneping. I don't know anything about resveratrol, but I'm wondering about the grape seed. Did the intregative doc say it has estrogen? I was under the impression it depletes estrogen.
-
leggo - i think you are right. i got the name wrong. it's probably the wine extract that he said was counteracting to the tamoxifen. i didn't write down so i think i got certain things wrong. sorry....
i think this link explains it....it's kind of contradicting tho...weird. it says resveratrol enhances tamoxifen but supplement is not recommended.
-
Thanks juneping.....and for the link too. Very informative.
-
June, thanks for the link. It is interesting how many substances are good for us when consumed in the form of food, but bad when consumed as supplements.

Hey just got back and glad to see lots of new posts here. I went to my holistic doc as well and got my DMPS loading protocol results back. For that test you submit a urine sample and then get a chelation IV drip with DMPS in it, which reaches in and grabs out the heavy metals. Then after the drip and for the next 75 min you pee into a jug and they measure the amounts of HM. I was 3x the normal limit for mercury and lead! I have no problem believing this either--I used to live in an old house and did a lot of remodeling so was exposed to lead, and according to the dentist I have about 4 gms of amalgams in my teeth, which is about 2 gms of mercury. My doc thought I was upset but I was glad b/c we can fix this. I'll be taking oral chelation therapy for the next 6 mo or so and he said that he has seen many cases where a tumor just disappears when the heavy metals get detoxed. Interestingly, after that IV chelation session, my brain felt clearer than it had in years.
This doc started out as a regular MD--a board certified internist-- and started to use some holistic practices and the more he saw they worked, the more he switched over and now holistic is all he does. He has me doing oil pulling and I've not noticed much beyond better dental health like my gums no longer bleed and my teeth are seated more comfortably but I"ve no doubt that the differences will add up. Oh and he tested my meridians again and everything was perfect and the dental meridian was perfect too--it sounded very sick in the last test but now I've had the dental work done and that was only the first section.
One thing that's interesting about his doc too is that he goes very much by how I feel. His theory and mine now too, is that my feeling of wellbeing will have a great deal to do with my healing. I asked about adderall and whether I should continue to take it and he asked if I feel better with or without it. I said better with, so he said to continue to take it. I have added ginseng to my protocol for the same reason--not only is it supposed to help with tumor suppression but it makes me feel fantastic.
For those who have to pee after getting on the trampoline--I used to too, but that goes away. It strengthens all your cells due to gravity, and they will toughen up.
Interesting about a regular schedule and long life. I've never been much of one for consistency but I'm working on that. It sure is hard though. Oh and just learned a new thing--well I kind of knew it I guess but here's a good article: Eat Jello!
This cancer thing sure is a journey, isn't it?
-
new2bc, 5 minutes is great. It's all you need to circulate all of your lymph fluids around your body for one full circuit. You can build up by adding extra 5 min sessions or adding a minute or flapping your arms or something. I use bluegrass music too b/c it makes me want to dance.
-
juneping - thanks for the info on your Dr. appointment. I just got the results of my Vit. D test and my level was 15 so yeah mine is pretty low too. I just ordered a Vit. D supplement since I am living in the arctic circle here in the Midwest US!!
-
piper - so the oral chelation therapy doesn't require you to remove the filling right? that sounds pretty good.
a while back after reading the amalgams...i thought really hard what my fillings were. i only got two but i couldn't recall lol. so i called the dentist...he said he only used the composite material for his patients...
-
June if your fillings match your teeth you're fine but if they are a dark silver grey then you've probably got amalgam, which is what you don't want. And no, I don't have to have the fillings removed first. I had wondered about that for years myself but doc said we can go ahead and get started, but I need to keep on getting my dental work done. NAC is another detox agent and will help build glutathione in the liver. Cilantro is good and I'm going to get onto doing research about detoxing HM now.
I was just reading over my toxic metals report and it said that lead exposure can accumulate extensively in your bones and decrease your hgb or blood count and I've been fighting mine for years--I'm so sick of iron pills and figured it was the fibroids, but my OB/gyn always seemed a bit puzzled by much trouble we had keeping it up. One of the first things it does with even low levels of exposure is to impair your vitamin D metabolism and we know what that does. Even at low levels it can participate in synergistic toxicity with other toxic elements such as cadmium and mercury! Both lead and mercury can have neurotoxic effects and glad we caught this before I got alzheimer's and maybe I won't have AD/HD anymore when this is over. That would be a dream come true. Another thing that is high is nickel and while not a problem in itself, it can take up receptors that would be better served by zinc or selenium. Again, ring a bell?
A piece of good news is that I won't have to have the dental surgery after all and my sinus is clear. We saw a mass in there before that looked suspicious but it's gone now. BC is bad enough w/o having something nasty that close to your brain.

Wow...just ordered Life Extensions optimized Reserveratol to take with Quercetin and Grapeseed extract...now, don't know what to do...hmm...
-
Resveratrol with quercetin and grape seed sounds like a good product. I wouldn't worry about any estrogenic effects, but if you are, don't take it forever - just take this bottle. I take those products seperately.
-
jojo - you can either return it or have your family take it. i wouldn't want to risk it based on the sloan research.
-
Jojo, this is from the foodforbreastcancer.com site
Safe and effective dosages of resveratrol supplements have not been established. Cell and animal studies suggest that taking resveratrol in concentrated form could have unintended adverse effects, including potentially increasing the rate of proliferation, migration, and invasion of breast cancer cells at some dosage levels. One study reported that resveratrol alone promoted mammary tumor growth and metastasis in a mouse model of ER- breast cancer whereas it inhibited it in combination with quercetin and catechin (other grape polyphenols). Another study found that supplementation with zinc plus resveratrol in a rat model of breast cancer substantially increased the rate of carcinogenesis and the number of carcinogen-induced mammary tumors. (http://foodforbreastcancer.com/news/resveratrol-enhances-the-treatment-effects-of-tamoxifen-in-er+-breast-cancer)
Your supplement does have the quercetin. I personally haven't read much that was negative about resveratrol, but if you could track down those studies you might be able to figure out if they were using much higher amounts, or something else that would distinguish them (I notice it says ER-, so might be different effect than with ER+ cells).
I've read some bad stuff about zinc before, so it wouldn't surprise me that a combination with reserveratrol would be bad too.
-
Actually, Jojo, my approach so far has been very conservative. So if I see even one thing about a supplement that is negative I cross it off my list, or put it in the "need more info" category. There are so many supplements and food choices that don't have any question marks and are beneficial in the fight against cancer, I figure we can do without a few until more evidence is in.
Basically, do what you feel comfortable with!
-
Is the problem with resveratrol only? I sometimes take quercetin and grapeseed extract. Was there a new study at sloan regarding resveratrol? I have read that resveratrol is good to eat in foods not supplements. I also stopped taking ground flaxseed (I tablespoon/day) for a week now and I notice I have more hot flashes. There was a period of about 2 months where my hot flashes stopped. So I do not know if I want to take flaxseed anymore. Any thoughts? Does anyone take calcium D glucarate? I have read good things about zinc and I take it as a supplement. It reduces copper in the body which is good because copper causes angiogenesis.
-
didn't we read it a while back, vit E and antioxidant NAC(?) also had the adverse effect on tumor?
-
Juneping, there's this study showing NAC and vitamin E sped up the progression of lung cancer in mice:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24477002
New2bc, I take calcium d-glucarate, and also 2 TB. of flaxseed a day. I haven't seen anything negative about flaxseed, and there are three different clinical trials underway with flaxseed and breast cancer prevention, and prevention of recurrence. If there were some indications that it could worsen breast cancer, I don't think they could ethically do those trials. But on the other hand you have to listen to your own body, above all.
As far as zinc goes, this kind of scared me away, "At the same time, epidemiological studies have illustrated a relationship between high zinc levels in breast tissue and breast cancer." http://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/herb/zinc Of course, that certainly doesn't mean zinc causes cancer.
-
about the flaxseed - based on my int doc's hand-out. it says it appears to have potential benefit against BC in animal studies..but lacking clinical data. BUT i've read a lot of naturopath doc suggest flaxseed. personally i don't think it's unsafe. especially it's taken as food form anyway. i am not taking it...but when i go all natural, i'll do it. i plan to stay on tamxo for a couple of years...since dr Wong said the first two years are crucial.
-
Fallleaves,
Thanks for the information you provided. I take 15 mg of zinc everyday by cutting a 30 mg pill in half. I may need to cut it again to make the dosage less. Isn't this whole process fun? By the time we order a supplement, we find out that it is not good for us.
What brand of calcium d glucarate are you using and what dosage daily?
-
Anyone read Diana Dyers little book, "A Dietitian's Cancer Story?" I read alot and came across her book. She is a 3 time cancer survivor; on her last breast cancer she used conventional treatment and CAM.
She had a childhood cancer and breast cancer 2x - the last bc was stage 3 in 1995. Though I don't prescribe to everything in her book, especially eating soy, it is truly an amazing story. She is an RD - I talked to her last week and she mentioned that there is a 2010 updated version of the book. She no longer practices as an RD (darn, I wanted her to coach me); her and her husband have a full-time garlic farm that keeps her busy.
-
hi ladies - I am new to this thread but following it with interest
I recently found out about I3C and DIM and wonder what your sources of info say re use to help prevent BC reoccurance my sources say I3C can work synergistically with Tamoxifen
-
New2bc, boy that's the truth about all the info on supplements, constantly keeping us on our toes (is it good for us, is it bad for us....) I'm taking 500 mg/day of calcium d-glucarate, the vitacost brand. (But I'm sure I'll find out I should be taking a much better version!)
Hi nocompromises2013! I'm not an I3C or DIM expert, but hopefully someone will chime in.
