I love, love, love technology. The first time I ever used the internet, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. All the info in the world at my fingertips. As a teacher in the Silicon Valley, we get all sorts of stuff for our classrooms and parents always do what needs to be done to keep us up to date. I am attending an "iPad Academy" and got 10 iPads for my class recently.

I, too, LOVE the knowledge and info out there on the internet. It's just that the delivery systems (aka pads, tablets, etc) are confusing for those of us who are older. I remember joking as usual that my "VCR was blinking 12 o'clock" when I was gently reminded that there aren't clocks on disk players....sigh.

I'm using my little baby Mini Kobo at work until my boss comes in. That gives me 4 hours or so to be able to read between clients. She uses her cell phone, so what the heck is the difference? I'll be glad to leave this temp position shortly.

Working in a school in Silicon Valley certainly helped me learn about the latest tech devices (bet I'm older than you, barbe). More than a few years ago, when my school first got a computer lab, a colleague was very critical of the money spent on this new fangled idea. She predicted that computers were just a passing fad and declared she had no intention of learning about them nor integrating technology into her curriculum. Guess she was wrong! Our computer lab, BTW, is now almost obsolete as we have moved toward mobile devices.

Greece is behind the curve on technology, but it did strike me that when dd started junior high in 2004, she was the only kid with her own computer and internet access at home. When she graduated HS 6 years later, there was only one kid in the class who did not have internet access at home. Huge change in a very short space of time.

What Melissa said is SO IMPORTANT - avoid  acetaminophen if you can, suspected in much LIVER DAMAGE, and included in too many meds. Esp. the big time painkillers they give us after surgery.  YUCK.

ALL the SSRI's are incompatible with Tamoxifen, metabolized along the same gene path.  Tho I HATED Effexor, would never let a friend of mine use it, NEVAH!

Caryn, easy to guess if you're older than me as I put my year of birth in my name! hehehehee

For those that don't realize, Tylenol is acetaminophen.... BUT, aspirin (ASA) can cause stomach problems, so chose your meds wisely. I got liver damage from Tylenol years ago before I finally got on the right pain meds. I HATE that doctor that didn't believe my pain level!!!! And I blame HIM for my liver damage. I was taking over 4,000 mgs (?) of Tylenol a day when the MAX is 2,000!!!!! You have to worry about your sinus meds and arthritis meds if they throw in Tylenol as well. It all adds up.

    Barbe,

Yes, that's why I made the comment. I assumed '58 was your year of birth. Call me Caryn1956!

Caryn, you've been lucky to have been immersed in technology in a schooling environment. Once I left that it was only my sister who lived in the US that kept us up on the latest. She always bought whatever new came out and kind of led us her way. My first word processor at work was the size of a small fridge turned on it's side. It was HUGE!!! I was at that company when they changed to PCs so was lucky enough to get that training. I can't imagine what the future holds!! I remember when fax lines came out and I couldn't wrap my head around how a picture could get transmitted by a phone line.......

Good morning, everyone!  Just had to post this little guy 'cause the unbridled joy on his face made me smile.  May you all "live like someone has left the gate open..."

I remember when I first started working with computers, you actually had to place the phone receiver in the modem machine to get a line; statistics were run by punching arrays of numbers into a tape and then running the tape through a time-share server program; a printer took up almost an entire room; and the computer took up almost your entire desk!  And who can forget those 5.5" floppy disks?  Or how excited we were when - after working with a 286 - we, finally, got 386 and 486 machines?  Now I look at my tiny USB drive and laugh...

Bought a new lipstick on the weekend; a beautiful warm red called "British Red".  And, although I don't often use Avon products because of allergies, I bought a base coat nail polish that, actually, minimises the ridges in my fingernails and makes my manicure look a little less "rough".  Yippee!  [Rummaging around to find an OPI polish to match the new lipstick...]

Selena, Avon's Persian Red was my favorite (and signature) warm red lipstick for years. I miss it!

I miss the unbridled joy of dogs. When I lost my last one a few years ago I decided I need a break though. Living alone they were frequently stuck alone in the house too long, and when I wanted to go somewhere it was hard to find someone who could take care of my big boys. When the last one got pneumonia I was only working part time and spent $6000 I couldn't afford and he still didn't make it. He was only seven, so a young and apparently healthy dog. Just about broke my heart.

I am so over this winter...It was 80 Saturday, almost 70 when I went to bed Saturday night. It was 25 yesterday morning, dropping all day & sleeting. 17 this morning, and still icy & all the schools are closed, so I'm home on what should have been my next-to-last day at my job. I'll be damned if I'll risk wrecking my car the week before I'm to start a new job though.

Dallas is huge & sprawling. I have worked the biggest part of my adult life in one section of town. The new job is in a completely different area & direction. I have to find all new shopping & service providers. On the bright side, it is in the heart of Asian "country". Tons of very cool Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese & Middle Eastern restaurants & markets, so that will be fun.

Melissa, sounds wonderful.  Just reading some fabulous recipes for dal in today's new york times.

    LOVE the dog picture.

Weather report from western ma - well below 0 now, and "wind chill" for tonight is predicted to be MINUS 30.  How do animals living outside survive?  Birds?  why don't they freeze?

Sunny, I do think there's a limit to how much cold wild critters in the U.S. can take. They're not evolved to survive these arctic temps. That said I haven't seen any bodies in my front or back yard. A few days ago there was much flying and scurrying around. But after dipping down to -15 last night the little guys are still holed up. Tomorrow we get a heat wave up to 42! WOOHOO!!

Sunny - Don't know if you're a fan of Ustream but I've been watching the Decorah Iowa Eagles. She has 3 eggs now (#3 last night) and it has been bitterly cold there. Fun though slow action. I just keep a tab open and click back/forth to it. I'm also watching Phoebe Hummingbird in CA.

I've been looking for Maybelline's new lipsticks The Buffs. Most stores haven't rec'd them yet it appears and others only got a handful of each. I don't shop that much and not ordering online. Guess I need to make that trip to Ulta this week.

We did have a big bird die off in January I think. One particular area of south Dallas or was it Ft Worth. Noted it was due to starvation. We had that week of ice in December. I see lots of buggies out now, moths and things. I fear our local peach crop may be gone, my trees had faint budding.

OOOooooohhhhhhhhhh.......the eagles are back.  I watched one pair last year, can't remember where they were, near a fish farm, I think, and I was honestly, full disclosure, ADDICTED to watching the chicks grow up.  AWESOME, an over used word ( darn those teenagers) but truly, truly, life enhancing.  Those eagles are SUCH GOOD PARENTS..we ( our society) could learn a lot from them....

Sunny - I think the Decorah Eagles were off last year. They made a new nest and had to get new camera to site. I'm new this year so just catching up. That's them. Near the trout/fish hatchery.

Explains it, I think I watched a pair in CA last year....one of the chicks was named Stormy, the other Kyle ( I think) - truly amazing to see how fast they grow.  Think there's a pair in ME online too....seems so early for eggs, but then it is March, tho one wouldn't know it in the north East.

While I never tend to watch the Oscars (on too late), I do enjoy the photos the next day.  My favourite Oscar gowns...

Selena, I remember when I was a teenager the pale lips were very much in fashion. At 17 I could pull it off with no problem. At 63, not so much.

Leah, LOL!  I agree; it's a look for the younger girls (I'm 53).  But even when I was much younger I couldn't pull it off, my colouring was so pale - blond hair, blond eyebrows, blond eyelashes, fair skin, pale lips, that a beige/nude lip just made me look... beige.  Almost featureless.  I was so envious of those with more brilliant colouring that could rock the look.

Speaking of having too much plastic surgery, guess we all felt sorry for kim novak, but what's the deal with goldie hawn?  Yikes - how come chipmunk cheeks seem to be so fashionable.

Will NOT mention Donatella Versace, worse than the plastic surgery, she must be anorexic...sad, sad, sad...

ETA: She is 81! No way I am trying to look like a blonde bomb shell if I make it to 81. Heck, I am not even trying now.
