3 years on ... how fantastic!
3 years ago, not long after my 40th birthday, I found a lump. In what now appears a very common story, my doctor said "you're too young", "you're not in the risk group" etc etc.
Turns out she was wrong. She did the right thing and got me checked out. A few whirlwind days later I found out that Yes, it was indeed BC. They knew there was one lump, after my mastectomy it was revealed that there were 4. They knew nodes were involved ... I certainly wasn't expecting 12.
Here I am 3 years on and doing great. My hair is below my shoulders, my recon was completed last year and all in all life is good.
I no longer think about BC every day. I have 6 monthly appointments with the surgeon and oncologist. When I asked my onc last week at what stage he would say he no longer has to see me, he looked at my file and replied "you and I are going to grow old together". We that's a bummer that I never get cut loose, but how fantastic to think I'm going to grow old!
I no longer frequent this site daily/hourly like I used to but I wanted to drop in and share my story and hopefully give others hope. Especially those who are scared and newly diagnosed.
I'm definitely planning on adding my name to the 5 year list! Bring it on!

Kiwi Mum,
Thanks so much for the inspiring post. It really helps to know of women that do move on, especially with the positive nodes.
