I have been married to my military man for 19 years. We will pcs in the midst of tx this summer. Anyone have similar experiences?  Looking for housing during this time seems harder.  Also hard to get excited about the move when I have to get throughchemo first. Will have to doradiation somewhere new.

I'm a Navy wife.  The first 19 1/2 yrs we were married he was AD (been married 38 yrs now).   We never PCSd in summer - once in spring and twice in fall.  The spring PCS we had base housing waiting for us - the other 2 we didn't but lucked out quickly in finding places with acreage for the horses.  The first was from NE FL to NW WA so that was quite a trip with 2 small boys, several dogs, a cat, a rabbit and 2 horses but we all made it and had some really 'interesting'happenings along the way.  The next 2 were just from Puget Sound area to the northern Mojave Desert and then back to Puget Sound 3 1/2 yr later.

I have no ideas to give you that might help with moving during TX.   Hubby had been retired 14 yrs when I was DXd.

Kicks thank you for your moving stories. I could not imagine moving with horses across town much less across the country. Must have been an adventure.

cancerisnotmyhappyplace - a PCS move in the middle of treatment is certainly not ideal, but mil spouses are tough and resourceful, right?  Is your new location in a place that has a large MTF?  Even though we are at a base that has two HQ the MTF is a large clinic, but not a hospital.  All of my care, with the exception of some imaging and echocardiograms, has been done in the civilian setting.  Is the timing of your PCS between chemo and rads?

Just popped in here to thank all of you military wives and spouses for the wonderful sacrifice for our country. You are all much respected and appreciated for your service, especially so, in that you are dealing with cancer.

SpecialK- thankfully we are going from a Bethesda to  Hawaii so we will have access. I haven't started chemo yet but we think the move will be between chemo and rad.  We are trying to think of Hawaii as the reward for going through this process.

Oceana- thank you for your kind words. The military life has been mostly a blessing. I have met some amazing people and truly courageous soliders especially those recovering from injuries where I get my treatment.

My husband retired a year ago this month and I'm a proud Army wife for 15yrs.  I was dx in Hawaii and was treated at Tripler.  They have a wonderful group for chemo and open door policy, very relaxing environment.  I had a NP at the beginning & I wasn't very thrilled, I had just been dx I wanted the real deal :)  When I got to Bragg it was a little different and I had to adjust to a more structured time frame for certain things, not as user friendly in my book.  I loved my MO here but she PCS'd, that is my big complaint about having BC in the military, I'm on my 4th MO.  And I had to go off base for rads.  I've loved being a military spouse, it has been a tough at times but wonderful life and I'd do it all again.

Welcome!! It seems like you military folk have a whole bunch of abbreviations too. No idea what PCS and AD mean. We'll all have to learn.

gilly - PCS = Permanent Change of Station (a military move) and AD = Active Duty

oceana - so nice!  Your screen name is a Navy base - Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia

cancerisnot - there was a member here who recently had treatment on base in Hawaii.  I will see if I can find her name and PM you.  I had a hyst/ooph and vascular surgery at Bethesda - great hospital - while my husband was stationed at the Pentagon.

I was in the Navy myself and married a Navy man He retired in 1983 and then he had a second 20+ year career. I resigned when they couldn't station us together. For the past ten years I have been getting my treatment at Balboa Navy Hospital. I salute you in not only making a PCS.move but going to have your household goods go by ship, doing it in the middle of treatment.  We were stationed in Spain for 4 years and it took over 3 months to arrive. I am sure they must have a breast health center help where you are going.  Sometimes you just need to ask for help. Sending hugs your way from a 13 year survivor in San Diego.
