Yes, so cold here in the north! I was just giving idle consideration to having all my meetings tomorrow in the sauna at the Y! So cold!

Today the passholder registration for Wine & Dine Half (WDW) opened up. Also yesterday, runDisney announced the Avengers Super Heroes Half at Disneyland (California) which is one week after the W&D and registration opens in few weeks. So, will I do one? Both? I am so thinking of both... I need to become one with my craziness before I book it. The travel it will entail in November is deranged, but I would be far from the first to do consecutive weekends and it would be something wild and crazy to look back on.

Reading everyone's milestones is sustaining me right now. Work is heavy and full of ups and downs, and no chance to run, and it seems like my revision surgery is still on for Mar 12. Today I was thinking I was so tired that I am so looking forward to a couple of hours of anaesthesia.

I will not be out there on the ice outside, but if I run on the treadmill, I will cheer about it here. Otherwise, I'll be looking for your runs to read about!

I notice some of you wear and seem happy with Shock Absorber running / sports bras and I've been looking at them on Amazon, but it seems like there are a few different choices. Anyone have any specific recommendations? I had lumpectomy, so have the original girls and wear a D cup, although after recent weight loss I may need a C. Do these bras tend to run large or small or fairly true to size?

The running bra #5044 ("Ultimate Run Bra") is the model I have used and think suits running well. Immobilization!

I have used it from DD (original equipment) to C (post DIEP) and yes I find the size I pick off the rack matching my everyday bra is the size that fits.

(Edited to add the product name after the number)

piper, you're naughty! I've signed up!

So, for the calendar, Nov 8, Wine and Dine Half.

In a couple of weeks, I will have decided (probably to go for it) on the Avengers!

Piper, oh what a boost that photo was on this morning when it was 20something degrees and windy.  Thank you!

Annie, I haven't tried the schock absorber as I haven't found a place in town where I can try it on or a place online that sells it and has a generous return policy.  (FYI - TitleNine.com does, perhaps others do too).  I've recently tried the Moving Comfort Juno (TitleNine calls it the 7 Wonders) and nothing moved.  I've only done short runs in it though, and will try it out on a long run either this weekend or next.

Think I have everyone's races down, but if not, please post here or pm me.  I love looking at this list and all that it represents.

Gold and Fairydog think you both have surgeries coming up and hope they go really well.  Warm thoughts to you this weekend oncearunneralwaysarunner

Kayb, Lovetorun & Goldliner, thanks for your help and input re: running bras. I just have one that I've had for a few years, a Champion brand and I don't even remember where I got it, but I figure it's time I invest in a good one, or two.

Thanks KayB - that's great to know.  Annie - I used to run in a Champion too and they discontinued it.  I was  beginning to feel like the Goldilocks of sportsbras trying to find a replacement that works for me.  Did a long run in the 7Wonders / Juno this am and I have to say I'm impressed.

Still wicked cold here in the mornings and like so many of you, oh so ready for warmer weather.  Daffodils are starting to poke out of the ground and (for me at least), they are nice little reminders of faith, hope and endurance.

Hope you all have a good week!

So good to catch up on everyone's runs and all the great gear and slogans! I've been getting out for 3 mile runs when I can.  Between all the snow and catching a cold, it's been more of a challenge then I thought it would be. I wanted to be a little further in my training for the 8k I'm running in a couple of weeks. I was originally signed up for the half marathon with my DH because we run it ever year and always sign up for the early discount the week after the race. So I'm still a little resentful that I can't do the half this year because of the dx this summer and then surgery...I know big picture, just thankful I can run...insert slogan:) I think I have had a pretty positive attitude through everything but it's the little things like having to defer a race or change distances that sometimes gets me. The finisher gift this year for the half and full is a pretty cool beach towel, so want it! I can use my DH's but it's not the same as when you earn it.

My good news is that I have my exchange surgery date and it's March 21st, so I'll have fun running the 8k and then "patiently" wait to heal and hopefully be back to training quickly.

Goldlining- my DH and I are considering running the Nov 8th Wine and Dine with another couple that are Disney vacation club members. We are meeting tomorrow to discuss logistics and confirm so we are ready to sign up on the 4th when registration opens to everyone else. Have you run this one before? I'm a little concerned about the 10pm start time ( I'm an early morning runner). Any recommendations or helpful insider thoughts? Thanks!

I love the Wine and Dine 10pm start. I have done it twice and obviously am signed up again. I'd never get up early for a run unless it was a medal-getting event. All my training runs are in the evening. I like the way that my digestive system is awake and functioning before I am heading to the starting line. Particularly for people who do run in the morning, Galloway does recommend mixing in some afternoon/evening training runs as this event gets closer.

For this one, you can nap in the afternoon (I never can sleep in that nap, but I rest) and the crowds heading over to the start seem to be more gradual, less last-minute. The assembly at the start seems more social and relaxed to me, maybe because it isn't so pitch dark and I can see people chatting! The sun is going down when you get there so you can see where you're going, but there's no UV to worry about.

If you have not done a WDW morning event, being a morning runner is definitely an advantage for those, but it is hard for a non-morning person like me. You have to launch out of bed at 3:00 am or so and hit the (overly air conditioned) bus no later than 4:00. My corral always starts at 6:00 or later, and that's a long time to stand around in the sometimes cool Florida pre-dawn.

At the Wine and Dine finish, the runners and companions with cheer tickets have access to go back into Epcot until something like 4am, because it's the Food & Wine Festival at that point. If you drop some dry clothes at the bag check at the start, you can get out of your sweaty gear and change in the changing tents at the finish line. These are big communal (separate male and female) tents with glaring fluorescent lighting, but most people are focused on sitting there half clothed, inhaling their gluten free crackers and bananas from the snack box. I seem to recall they hand out beer and wine as well as pop at the finish line, as well as the usual water, powerade, and snack boxes.

You get a preloaded $10 Food & Wine Festival gift card in the race kit but you can spend it before the run, and you can spend it at any Disney retail location on anything. Typically, though, I go directly from the race expo and load it with another $30 and eat and drink my way around the world on the day I get there! (mmm Argentinian beef skewer with chimichurri!) Before the run, I just keep it bland and carby. Usually, I make a return Food & Wine visit on Sunday, too, after I've slept.

The shirts are long sleeves, which I like, because I need more short sleeve tech shirts like I need a hole in the head.

The course is my favourite WDW half - from Wide World of Sports to Animal Kingdom and then across to the Studios (running through the Osborne lights is always a highlight) and around the hotel bay to Epcot. More of the mileage is in the parks than the other course that goes from Epcot to the MK and back (used on Donald and Princess runs). Map from last year: http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/rundisney/pdf/win...

    Hope you enjoy it!

Goldlining- thank you for all the great information! Very helpful:)

I'm going out for a 4 mile run this morning and then meeting up with everyone to talk about signing up for the race. I'll let you all know if we decide to commit.

    Hello Ladies:

I am SO excited to see this board!  You are top on my favorites :)  This is actually my first post to any of the discussions.  Through all the craziness of the past few months, the one thing I missed the most is running.  I tried going a hand full of times after my first surgery and during the expansion process but it was just NOT comfortable.   I tried different bras etc. but just wasn't meant to be.  So I walked daily with my pooch and am anxiously awaiting March 20th when I can get out and hit the pavement for good!  I actually have a number for the Publix Half March 23rd and suffice it to say, I won't be in shape to run all of it.  But I've had a few friends suggest I walk/jog it.  I am really considering it.   It will be 4 months post diagnosis.  My legs will not be happy with me but I think I can do it.  Have any of you who have had reconstruction found you were able to get back running pretty quickly or did it take some adjusting?  I saw a post with regards to different jog bras and will have to check those out.  It's hard to tell how much swelling I have vs. whatever my actual size will be.  I just had my surgery last Tuesday.  I feel WAY better than I did with the expanders so I am hopeful my new "girls" will be more cooperative to get back into a good routine soon enough. :)

I saw the list of races that everyone is doing for 2014...You all are AMAZING!!!!   I have an onc appt on 3/7 and if all goes well, I'm planning on the Chicago full in October with a fundraising entry.  Making it into a family trip so our kiddos can see Chicago.

So inspired by you all on this board!  This will add some much needed motivation to get me back in my running shoes :).  Thank you! Thank you!

    Hello gals,

Planning on the Bunny Rock 5k April 19.

Runhappy...  Chicago is an amazing run!  The greatest crowd support. Have a great time!

runfree16... each day to the half!   Did you look on Hal Higdon site?

Got my ass handed to me after my first series.  Feeling better now.  Will plan to bike and run a bit this week.  Thanks for making me smile and remember that I can do it too.

Well did my chilly half marathon!!! yep there is a reason its called the chilly half.. -15 with about 5cm of snow overnight so the first going was slippy.. it was an out and back so second half was ok. Was planning to run it as a training run for my 30km race march 30th but at just past the 13k mark i said screw it.. im freezing and i want to get in and done.. upped the pace significantly and finished in 1.50.26 chip time. i was checking my garmin upload and i ran the last 8km in 35min so well pleased with that.. Some seriously fast runners out there today despite the temps and conditions.. fast woman came in at 1.20!!!

Anyway feeling tired but good, and looking forward to the next one

I tried the Shock Absorber Ultimate Run bra, but could tell just by jogging in place at home that the support was no better than my old Champion. I'm slowly recovering from a frozen shoulder and also found the Shock Absorber hard to get on and off. I'll be sending it back to Amazon and already got my "instant refund." Maybe I'll try the "7 Wonders" from TitleNine.com next.

Meanwhile, I'm still running my one mile 3 times a week and will try to gradually work up from there.

So awesome rdrunner! You rock! Fast! All I could do to walk for groceries in today's cold.

AnnieLane - too bad about the Shock Absorber. Better luck with the next option! I hear you with the on-off. I leave the upper fasteners done up and wiggle in and fasten the band, because I have a torn rotator cuff and can't get my hands up to the top clasp. But I am very picky and need total immobilization and it does for me, without squashing - wonder what it was about your fit. (I got fitted at their own booth at a run expo so no question about size for me.) Anyway, good luck with your shopping!

Rdrunner- Fantastic run!! That is truly an inspiring run and you rocked the time, awesome negative split! I think I will avoid any race with the word "chilly" in it though, that sounds crazy cold!!!

Run happy- I agree, this thread is my favorite too and it felt so good to see that others were running after everything they were going through and it gave me hope that I would get back to running while I was waiting for recovery. Now, every run gets a little easier and makes me a little happier and grateful:) Have fun training for Chicago, I hear it is a great race.

Welcome runhappy.  Glad you found this board!

Annie - the Juno / 7 wonders is one of those over-your-head-then-reach-behind-and-clasp-in-the-back.  You might find it difficult with your shoulder.

    Way.to.go.rdrunner!! You rocked it!

    Snowing here today.  Tiddely pom.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!  I'm still learning how these boards work so bare with me :)
I can't  reiterate enough how amazing you all are!  Seriously!  With the exception of my onca type and having just turned 40, my oncologist said I basically got an "A"...found it early and it was straight forward to treat.  We had some back and forth with a few docs re. chemo b/c of my onca type being in the "intermediate" range but now I have to let well enough alone and trust.  All that being said, you all are remarkable and truly inspiring to be movin' and groovin' during and after your various treatments.  I have continued to tell friends that cancer has really been a blessing b/c I have been touched my the most incredible women and their journeys.   (Sorry for the sappiness...I'll save that for a different board ;) ).

kayb My PS seems to be in line with yours...he said 3 weeks post surgery NO exercise or getting my heart rate up for risk of swelling and clotting.  So March 23rd may be a bit ambitious.  ;) Sigh.  But, there's plenty of time to get back out there :).

Rdrunner Congrats on an awesome run!!!

    welcome runhappy

nice run rdrunner. Awesome time despite those chilly temps. LOL @..."Slippy". We use that word quite a bit in southwestern PA

Hello to everyone else. Looking forward to another Dreadmill day.

We did not get the Winter storm (of the century) that was predicted. YEAH! However temps are still too low to really enjoy a run outside. Hoping by weeks end I can pick a nice route somewhere in the city or at a nearby park. I am over the treadmill. I am on week 5 of the C25k. This really was one of my better ideas to get back into training despite my disdain for the hunk of basement metal. It's a short enough time and watching 'House of Cards' while exercising has helped keep me distracted. I will be looking for a few runs to sign up for in the next month.

Nat, I have also decided that the 5 and 10K really are more my speed. I did like the 10miler even if I only got half way.....if they have it again this year I will see how I feel at that time

I think the injury from the 10miler is still lingering....my ankle is stiff in the am and I have to watch when I first start out on a walk or run.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day/week

    Happy trails

    Piper

Snow, snow, and more snow today in the DC area!!  Glad I got out yesterday for a 5 mile run in the park - I too am getting so sick of the dreadmill.  Did one session of upper body exercise (also known as snow shovelling) this morning, and getting ready to head back out for another session.  On the Let's Post our Daily Exercise thread we call it "Shovel & Sculpt"! Can't believe my first 5K is in less than 2 weeks!

Rdrunner - your half time is so impressive - it must have felt wonderful!  Annie - before b/c I had DD girls and always loved TitleNine's bras - I love the "barbell" ratings.  Now that I reconstructed to B's I like a lot of the Moving Comfort bras - they even have a few that have hooks in the back, just like a regular bra, so no struggles with pulling tight sports bras over your head.  Road Runner Sports has a lot of running bras if you haven't checked them out, and a decent return policy.

I was so looking forward to doing the Dirty Girl 5K mud run this year!  My team participated without me last year because I ended up having my exchange about 2 weeks prior to the race.  But.......they're not having one in Michigan this year!   Boo hoo!!!!!

Just came in from a chilly 6.2 miles in 8 degrees F.  No wind, at least!  But I'm glad I did it.  Good to have a dependable running partner on these cold mornings.  Will it ever warm up?  I'm sure some of you have it worse . . . Headphones  Have a good day, everyone !

PS: Rdrunner, you crazy girl, slow down just a little bit!   Congrats on your great half.
