Barbe, I imagine our Big Blizzard of 2/2014 seems very small to you and with temps in the minus 30 range I do understand. What's a major disaster here wouldn't even sound like a skirmish to you! Here, a snow like this only occurs about every 10 years.
But all is well and our power stayed on, although many are without it. DH and I actually got out today in his 4-wheel drive and it was fine after we got out of our neighborhood. It was so nice to get out of the house too.

STOP THE PRESSES NEWS FLASH: 9:44pm EST---8:44pm Colorado time(?)
Our dear fearless friend Chevy has a broken left hip. She crossed the road to avoid ice, she stated in the interview and this rock got under left foot. She turned her ankle and fell. This was early today 2/13/14. She's been in the hospital all day. She's on Morphine, but she has her wits about her. Her humor intact. Doesn't sound loopy at all. Her DD is at her side, as is DH.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 pm, 2/14/14. ORIF --Open reduction internal fixation(long rod and screws). She expects to be in the hospital for two days after surgery. Rehab in hospital for two days after surgery. May go to rehab facility. That will be decided later for sure.
She can't post here because the hospital keyboard is too complicated (shut-up Cami).
She wasn't happy that this stupid injury interfered with her planned casino trip.
She asks that Cami do the AM post reviews in the morning on each of her threads.(Thanks Cami).
Thinking of everyone and sends XOXO's
Will keep you updated---sassy

Sas, Thanks for letting us know.
Chevy, Sending healing thoughts.
-
Kathy, please know I wasn't downsizing your issues!! Just pointing out that we have issues this winter as well. Nothing is normal this year, even the southern hemisphere is just TOO hot!! Record breaking temps in Australia and all.....
Awww, poor, dear Chevy!!! Will send a healing prayer her way!!
-
Thanks Sas for letting us know about Chevy......I do hope she has a speedy recovery!
Talk about weather changes!!! Yesterday we were roasting and today we nearly got washed away! yes it rained so hard and so long I had a river and a waterfall into and out of my courtyard........the worst thing was I was watching a lot of my topsoil disappear with the water as it rushed through! Once the rain had eased I checked down on the road and found a lot of my soil (now mud) banked up half a block away........lol. The best thing about all this rain is, the Bangor forest fire is all but out!!!! Yay for Mother Nature!!!!! Temps for the next few days is mid 70's....Wooohooooo!!!!
Hoping your weather breaks for the better soon!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Oh no Barbe, I never thought that! When I saw your post I wondered how people even survive in extremes like 30 below! We've seen single digit temps before, but I've never seen it below 0, and 30 below, oh my. Do you ever lose power in such extremes? That was my main worry here.
Chrissy, the rain really had a good side if the fire's nearly out. Sorry about all your topsoil though, and the 70's sound divine after the heat you've had.
Thanks for letting everyone know about Chevy, Sas. Hope she recovers ASAP and gets along well.
Going to try to brave a grocery run in a bit, maybe after more melting on the roads.

11:am EST:Hello, update on Chevy. Surgery is still on at 2 pm. Sounds very good. She's thinking more in the direction of going to a rehab faciltity. It's a hairline fracture on the outer aspect of the hip, the ball joint is not affected. This is very good. It will make her recovery easier. The ball joint carries the weight.
She did get herself up and out of bed to use the bathroom by pushing a chair last night. The staff went into a tissy. They put a catheter in after that and explained about the call light.
Sends love to all. Told her she will reading for days. I'm supposed to call around 6 pm Colorado time. Okay someone tell me what time that is EST----8 pm? Sassy
-
Sas, Colorado is 2 hrs behind Florida so you can work your times out.
-
oh so sorry to hear about Chevy. Glad it isn't worse. Ice is the worst!
happy I am out of the cold for a bit. Yesterday we went to beautiful garden. I'll try to post a pic later. Shopping for a nice outfit for my DS to wear tonight. Why are men such poor shoppers?
-
Sorry to read about Chevy, my prayers are with her.
It is warm in Dallas today and for the weekend, and I am going to take advantage of every minute of it! Yay! I hope you are all thawing out, those of you who had these terrible storms.
Happy Valentine's Day, my sweet sisters!
-
Men are bad shoppers because they either see the price tag, their watch, or only our naked bodies beneath the outfit. Either way, they really have no opinion!!
We walk quicker in the cold weather, but I don't use a hat, scarf and only gloves if I have to hold the steering wheel. That acclimatizes us pretty quick. If I had to stay out longer I guess I'd wear more, but I just bought a wool hat for the first time that pulls over my ears a couple of years ago and I see it on my coat closet shelf with the tags still on!!! The only advantage of being like this is we are wearing short sleeves at 60 degrees when the rest of you are bundling up!!! One year when we went to Greece at the beginning of March to be off-season (way better for photo ops!!! We were alone in the Temple of The Grand Masters on Rhodes!!), the locals were pointing and laughing at US while THEY were in leather coats and scarves...it was 70 degrees. Perfect weather and we were in t-shirts!
We really feel bad when we see non-or-new Canadians bundled up in say, like September, wondering what they'll be like by January!!! We don't even wear a coat in September and don't often zip up or button up our winter coats until December. Yesterday someone was in shorts (but with a coat on) while he was shoveling his drive - the sun WAS out, so it was warm. For us.
-
I went to Nome once. When the temp warmed up to 0F at noon we had our coats undone because we felt hot. In Seattle people would have on shorts and fleece at 60F.
-
Hey folks valentining then sleeping, up now. Didn't write total details about conversations with Chevy, cuz of posting on multiple threads. Conversations were typically interupted as conversations in hospitals are---people coming and going, trying to cram lots into a short talk, diverging, laughing.
She didn't think to call for help. The staff didn't properly explain what to do. But thankfully she wasn't injured b/c of it. She doesn't have a PCA--pain machine with the button. We were laughing so much I didn't get to pain scale. The guy was coming with her med. Felt a bit bad I didn't do my normal preop teaching, but Chevy's no shrinking violet.
Her fracture---if one has to have a fx, hers is the best. it's not part of weight bearing. Huge difference for pain now and then for recovery. It's a hairline versus like broken glass. The broken glass type fx's can have trouble healing well b/c the matrix is so disrupted. The rod will give the fx the support it needs, should heal very nicely. Doc's going to have her up tomorrow
I'm watching the clock. I'm calling at 8pm EST. will post as soon as I have info. If she still under anesthesia drug influence , I'm sure DD will be at bedside. Will keep postop note short b/c I've put the posts on several threads. XOXO sassy
Going to C&P to her other two most active threads STFU and Older

2/14/14 8:55 p----Chevy called at 8:35. In her room. Totally coherent. Voice raspy from tube. Pain scale 5. No PCA, suggested she ask for one. DD & Dh had just left. Subcu Heparin given. Rehab starts in Am. I'm to call her @9-10 her time. I finally have the time straight. Thanks all. Two incision(usual). Sends her love. Sassy
-
Thanks for all the updates Sas........do please send her my love and tell her to stop chasing chickens!! rest and heal well. Oh and tell her to behave because we know what she is like.......lol.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

this is the model of what the house will look like when it is reconstructed
it will have just one bedroom upstairs and a roof deck.
-
Mac: if you read this call me..We SO need to meet while you're here! I called, but missed you while you were shopping with the kids for tomorrow.. I'm up all night, as many can attest here ( right, Chrissy?)hahaha
Happy Valentines, ladies. Hope everyone had a good time.

Please tell Chevey to let the hospital workers do their jobs. Her job is to heal. My mom, after a hip replacement went out into the hall and saw a wet floor sign, she decided the floor was dry, leaned over to pick up the sign, fell over and broke her other hip!!!! She refused to try to walk again although the Dr said she could,
Chevy you behave yourself and listen to Sassy!
I have the brace on my back and if I drank I would do so. Maybe I will begin.
Hugs Ginger
-
3jays, I will not leave this area without seeing you! I'm just busy with the wedding and family, but tomorrow is our day!
We've been having a great time. Even tho we had a flat tire on the rental car. We were in a parking lot and traveling with a former marine has it's benefits. He put on the spare in about 20 minutes and we were back on our way. Now we are in our 2nd rental car.
Ginger, sorry for the restriction, it would drive me to drink, too.

Hugs, to everyone who needs one!!!
I am trying to use my new computer with windows 8.1...I can't get used to it or find anything I need...
I am hoping for a flash of light to instill in my brain...hmmmm
We are having company coming on Tuesday and I have to get the house in order and figure out what to have for food. I don't know why this is getting harder and harder for me..oh..is this a sign of aging?? heaven forbid..
-
Lisa, good luck with your computer. Can relate to getting house ready and worrying about what to serve. Take a slow, deep breath. Now let it out nice and slow. Repeat as necessary. You'll do just fine.
-
I am not anxious about it..just know how much work I have yet to do...
-
Well Girls I'm home after a very late night.......lol......got to love weddings when you are just a guest! I will admit it was such a lovely relaxed atmosphere that the time went so fast and everyone had a ball! A novel idea, they had a photo booth there for the guests to put on funny hats etc, two copies of the photos were printed......one to get pasted into a memory book and one for the guest. It was such a fun and novel idea but a great way to have some wonderful memories kept.
This is the happy bride (my niece) being walked to her future husband by my brother and SIL.
and of course, the cake. This was made by her step mom.
Lisa I'm using Windows 8 and it took a while to work out how to find things but when you get used to it, it's not so bad. I will admit that it is entirely different to XP which is what my old computer used.......yes, I was a little behind the times but it still worked so I just kept using it.......lol.
Have a great weekend all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Chrissy, I'm still using XP. Can manage changes to BCO by using Google. Will stay with XP until I have to get a new computer. I am getting a tablet. -
Chabba that's exactly what I did.....lol.......but my old one just kept turning itself off and that got really annoying so when my mum dies last year she left a small legacy to each of my sibling and I and it was just enough to buy a new laptop which is exactly what I did. I will admit though, I did get twelve years out of the old one so not too bad I don't think.
-
Chrissy, I ADORED those pictures on FaceBook and thank you for posting them again!!! They were just breathtaking-ly gorgeous and everyone looked so happy! Was it a daytime wedding, so less booze, or is it just that your days are so long right now?
