Schholcounselor, so sorry to hear about your infection.  I hope it clears up on its own without the hospital.  Sorry to hear about your uncle...things can only get better, right?

Had my 10th of 12 taxol today.  MO said that it could be my last because 10 is usually enough.  My side effects have been minimal,  so I don't see why I shouldn't finish the last two treatments.  I did scrape the snow off my car on  Monday, had gloves on and I don't think I was out more than 30 minutes.  I came back in because of severe pain in my hands, felt like frost bite.  My MO said don't do that again.

My sister in law was diagnosed with stage III tongue cancer on Monday and is scheduled for surgery in two weeks.  I moved my rads fitting up a week, so I can go with my GF to her appointment with a urologist because she will be getting results from tests to see if she has bladder cancer.

What is this world coming too?

I had my port out yesterday. I was anxious, but it all went well. It wasn't bothering me but my RO had a preference to have it out since rads are going to be on that side and my MO said we didn't need it anymore so he was fine with it coming out. It's a little painful, but just ibuprofen painful.

Three weeks PFC and still dealing with side effects - I know, I know, it hasn't been that long, but I'm impatient. :-)

hey ladies! Sorry I've been MIA, but things were rough and I haven't been up to sharing. But reading all your updates has kept me going :)

Had my 'last' AC treatment the day after Christmas (it was so rough...so so rough...that damn AC ) only to see my MO three weeks later and have him tell me I needed more chemo. Ugh. I was so relieved to be done with chemo and had been meeting surgeons in prep for my mastectomy. I was even starting to taste food again and feel like me. Needless to say, it was a blow.

The good news is that my lump is completely gone - onc can't even feel where it was. But because it grew on the Taxol, I'd technically only had the 4 AC tx. So he asked colleagues and such and they all agreed on more chemo, esp since I'm only 35 and am BRACA 1. Sigh.

So, he started me on Carboplatin and Gemzar since they are great for TNBC and BRACA. He didn't want to risk the heart damage with more AC. I also think he knew I might have refused if he recommended more AC. That last one almost broke me.

Anyone have experience with Carbo? I find it easier than AC but still pretty rough. The nausea lasts for a week :( The Carbo also devastates my counts, so I had to get a Neulasta on Monday and the bone pain just hit me today along with the head cold my son, my fiancé, and his mom have been suffering from all week. Double sigh. I'm on one week Carbo and Gemzar, second week just Gemzar, and third week off. Rinse and repeat. 2 maybe 3 more times.

I'm just having a hard time because I was mentally done with chemo and preparing for my surgery.  I'm so sick of being sick :( Trying hard to gut check this and just get thru but some days it's hard, as I'm sure you all know. Sorry....just needed a little pity party. FU cancer !!!!!

Today I'm freaking out.  Am I really done with chemo?   I did 4 DD AC and only 10 of 12 taxol.  Yesterday my MO said I could be done if I wanted to be.  It was so out of left field it didn't hit me until today.   Has anyone had their MO tell them 10 was enough?

Pam how many taxol did you do?  You and I had the same dates and you're done already.

Is 4 DD taxol the same as 8 regular dose?  So technically,  did I have the equivalent of 5 DD taxol.  Where is it written that it's supposed to be 12 doses of taxol?

    Kitty Kate.

So sorry, I agree this journey sucks... I have one more Carbo/taxotere/herceptin and yes it messes up my stomache for almost 10 days. Try claritin daily for neulasta bone pain, it really helped me.

    Sending you prayers

    Vivian

    msjean63,

I too would question why not 12.  Every thing I've seen and researched says 12, but if the doc says it's ok, then don't fret.  If it will drive you crazy, then get the last two.  I totally get how you feel and would be freaking out also.

    MsJean

wow wonder why you wouldn't have to do the last two. I did the DD A&C then the 12 Taxol, just finished this week. Personally unless side effects were absolutely horrid I would insist on all the treatments. Best of luck!

The side effects are minimal.   Does anyone know what the amount of their dosage was?  I was getting 175 mg weekly taxol.  Which is equivalent to the DD dose on the study.  But I also weigh 220 lbs.  Is it the cumulative dose that is the deciding factor?

School  It will get better.  You are where you should be to get the best care possible.  If you let them know your concerns I'm sure someone can ease your mind.  You will be home before you know it.

SchoolCounselor, don't give up. We are all with you to support you and listen to you. Being in the hospital sucks, but you are almost done with the treatments and in two weeks it will be all different.

Focus on killing cancer and gain strength!

    We are with you!

    Vintage,

How can you tell that you have lymphedema? Slight lymphedema? is your arm swollen or fingers?   I am going in for an evaluation next week as I am concerned about lymphedema as well.

    Furfriend2

My surgeon thought I may have it started back in Sept after I had the nodes & lump out. The PT lymph specialist thought not, she said the breast swelling was from the seroma. She showed me exercises, we talked about a sleeve, etc. I do occasionally have a tugging like down my arm, still after 6 months have some numbness in arm pit but no arm swelling. But I know it can happen anytime so pay attention to it.

If you are concerned at all, go see a specialist. Good luck!
