So...whats for dinner?

It was 75F degrees today.  You all can laugh this summer when it's 119F and walking on pavement feels like I have bubble gum on my shoes.

I cooked a whole chicken in the dutch oven so Sharon won't have to do anything for food if she gets hungry tomorrow.  I think she has the flu and I'm trying to make life easy for her...and not catch it myself.

Eric, rub it in. It's 0 here. LOL.  A baked chicken sounds great. I had left over chili from George Webbs. LOL.  Hey it wasn't THAT bad.  LOL.  

I think I told you guys I had an eye doctor apt for retinal bleeding . I was a bit scared. Ok ok. I was A LOT scared! LOL but she looked and said I also have cataracts starting.  BUT we will watch it and I don't have to go back for a whole year. So I feel good. Yay. Also exercise is ok so I can continue with the Live strong program. Whew! 

That's good news on the eye front Monica! 

Thought of you today, Nancy, as my eye itching is back. Does yours stay year round? I was not expecting this until Spring.....annoying and "unsightly" (no pun intended). Probably need to head back to the allergist. Just love this Tamoxifen.....NOT!

Yes, Seaside, quite frigid here too....not the bedroom, the outdoors! I would be very happy if the extreme cold helped to reduce some of the Spring/Summer's flying bugs....tho it is probably not good for the overall ecosystem, I 'spose.

Monica, good news on the eye. I have a weird eye disease called adult onset  foveal pigment epithelial dystrophy that causes a blurry spot in one eye. I get it checked a couple of times a year while it's behaving itself (which it is thankfully), but the eye doc is always looking for bleeding. They can't do anything for the AOFPED but they can for the bleeding, which I haven't had, again, thankfully. It's not related to the diabetes, just bad luck.

Lacey, my eyes are itchy all year because I'm allergic to mold which knows no season. I hate it. Makes wearing eye makeup so difficult.

I have some skirt steak languishing in the freezer so I think we'll have fajitas and black beans for dinner.

My computer power supply is dead, so this is being done on my phone.

That's good news on the eyes, Moon.  Sometimes, it seems I'm dyslexic.  You wrote retinal bleeding....I was reading along and screeched to a stop and I had to go back and re-read it.  The difference between what you wrote and what I read....is embarassing, but did make me snicker after I figured out my mistake.... :-)

Sharon is starting to feel human again...she basically slept through her coughing for about 36 hours...and yes...DD has her graduated license...and she suddenly enjoys running errands. :-)

Nope, I had never heard of aofped either. My retina doc said "it's a cousin of macular degeneration but more well behaved." At this point, it's just annoying. It's like a tiny smudge on my glasses that won't wipe off. 

Luv, when I go to Galveston, I usually load up on a brand of tortillas I find there to bring home and freeze. Can't remember the name. Otherwise, I get trader Joe's handmade.

Eric, when I was in the throes of my cold and cough I read an article that said putting Vicks vapour rub on the bottom of your feet at night can help a cough. I was desperate but couldn't find my rub. I found it yesterday but no longer need it. If Sharon gets desperate enough she could try it lol

Monica, it's cold here too, barely got above 0 yesterday. Sunday is supposed to hit 50 then down to -4! Crazy stuff!

Dh wants pizza tonight. Will use the made crusts I bought at the Italian grocer and the last of the scamorza.

Luv, I usually very lazily put the whole pkg inside a freezer bag and toss them in. To use them, I just thaw the pkg enough to remove what I need then put them back. I have repackaged them in single use bags which is the preferred method.

That chicken I cooked earlier...I saved the bones and juice and am making soup.  Sharon and DD have a super nasty cold/something and both are in seeing a doctor to see what, if anything, can be done.  Maybe some homemade chicken soup will help....  Yesterday I was very tired and had a slightly sore throat.  Today, I'm OK and keeping busy with chores.

Moon...On the way to lunch with 5 other co-workers...I was the only one in the car to immediately understand the bumper sticker on the car in front of us, "Dyslexics of the world...Untie".  Numbers don't seem to be a problem for me, but 4 or 5 times a day, I'll have to re-read something that made no sense the first time through....

Carberry..chili is amazing for cold weather. That, and some corn bread!

Bedo - this is the cheating way to post a recipe. I assume your internet is pretty good. This is the google book review that takes you to the book page. Susan kinda got me leery of posting recipes that I'd lifted from somewhere but with a direct reference I don't see a problem since I got it by a simple Google search.

I will say I have not made this yet but I did find plenty of other blue cheese soups while looking for this. This 2nd site seemed esp. full of them. I love blue cheese, Feta anything like that. Hope DH does; he says he will eat it. I don't see why I can't add a bit of cooked chicken/turkey/smoked sausage to it but prob. will not at 1st to see how he likes it. I stopped with ingredients for the potato and the black bean chili. There were lots I could have liked.

I take the goats warm water to make them drink. They don't much like cold water and it was freezing a layer of ice on the top. They will drink it if they have to and when I was working they did, no choice. Stock - cows, horses - make do but mine are spoiled. Stockmen use an immersible tank heater than just keeps it from freezing. I have neutered males - they're called wethers yes no "a" in it if you ever see that term - and it's esp. important they drink since they can get bladder stones pretty easy. Also if I had a doe with babies it helps them make milk. The buckets are 2 1/2 gallon and I have 2 immersible bucket heaters gets them nicely warm in 15-20 with just cold tap water. The goats are just outside my backyard so not like I have to walk acres to get to them.

Have done my angel deed for a good while. I live at the bottom of a small rise. I watched the mail lady pull in neighbor's drive just above me and just thought they were getting a pkg. Later I looked out and saw some big white things in the bar ditch. 2 lovely dogs. About that time mail lady del. my mail and I asked if she was asking them about the dogs and she said yes. I didn't recognize them so between the 2 of us we managed to read their tags - she had dog treats. The owners were out driving looking for them. Fancy dogs with hunting tracking collars on them. The owners didn't realize how really close to their place the dogs were - across a few acres of open hay field. Told them to google map it and they'd realize how really not far they'd gone. Good dogs were just sitting, waiting. Could tell they were not dumped dogs. Feel good about it even though I have to wash the clothes from extreme doggy smell. Feel for mail lady she had them in her SUV. Offered a washcloth - one severely licked her face - but she declined. Must leave her a thankyou treat maybe Monday if I can catch her going out to verify it's her day.

OO - Carrie when I previewed this I saw your post. Good Karma there. Love when things work out like that. I saw my grocery has creme fraiche. Don't think these people will know what to do with it and it was $5.99 for a tiny tub expiring Monday. I bypassed for Greek yogurt for my potato soup. Bet they don't restock it.

Eric me either with Susan. Hope she's just good busy. Hope Sharon and DD get some relief.

Nancy - I'm tired of January too and we've not had your weather. But I'm not a spring storm person either. I passed up whole pork loins yest. at 1.49/lb. No room in freezer and they had some smaller ones. Oh well. Que sera. Oh bet you meant beef tenderloins - yum. We're having the remains of a Stouffers's lasagna - straightening house for goatie visit tomorrow.

LMGoats, I concur with Nancy, you are a good goat mommy. And it's good the dogs were found pretty fast.

Carrie, I Love the chew. That soup did look good but a lot of cheese went in. But as Mario said it would make a great dip! And I too have chili on the menu. That way my DH can take some back home with him tomorrow. 

Everyone stay warm. It's going to get cold enough here for me to keep the water dripping in the upstairs bathroom for the next couple nights. Predicting 10 to 20 below....

All that "below 0" stuff is so foreign to me.  I've been in those temperatures (in Arizona's mountains) and can deal with it...but I don't like it.

The fajita stuff, vegetables and meat, is marinating...olive oil, salt, chili powder, red pepper garlic, orange juice and cilantro.  Bell peppers and onion for vegetables and some generic beef that I sliced *real thin* for the meat.

Tonight was roast chicken with rosemary,

lemon and garlic , orzo with roasted

It was over 50 degrees and beautiful, if windy, today. Going to make the sub zero temps the next couple of days harsh. This polar vortex needs to go back where it came from and stay there.

I have no idea what's going on with this weird spacing.

Monica, it was very easy and dh loved it, much to my surprise. But it was far too much for 2 people.

The fajitas were good, but I was the only one eating.  I had to mop up and start some laundry after DD's "Dad, I'm sick", so she didn't feel like eating.  

Sharon has been feeling like crud, but not so spectacularly as DD....so no appetite there either.

I've been washing my hands every few minutes...that and my flu shot, so far, seem to be working.....

Moon, what are dressed greens?  I've dressed deer, elk, squirrel, rabbit, and in a different way, myself and (a long time ago) DD, but never greens...at least that I know of....

Auntie, That souffle looks good...another thing you all are inspiring me to try.
