The solution to painful intercourse!!!!!! Yipeee!

My story is very similar.....was initially put on femara & had all the same issues, lack of libido & atrophy. I tried replens, olive oil, coconut butter & SC. They all helped a tiny bit but not enough for me to be comfortable & enjoy sex. My side effects were terrible from the femara so my MO agreed to switch me to tamoxifen & then agreed I could use estrace 2 times a week. IT WORKED! It took several weeks or perhaps even a month or more but my lady parts are almost normal again. Of course I am referring to the parts below. I still need to work on my psyche about my boobs....I struggle with the loss of my own at times....but all being said....things are soooo much better since I am on estrace.
-
Where are you getting SC for $20? I also paid around $60-$70.
I have not tried lidocaine, but a friend told me you can get benzocaine lube over the counter; it's sold mostly to gay men for anal sex.
My MO, Kimberly Blackwell, also said absolutely no on estrogen vaginal cream. She was recently named one of Time magazine's most influential people because of her cancer research, so I tend to trust her opinion.
-
tenaj, I started on Tamoxifen, but couldn't tolerate it, so I was taken off of it. My MO then tested my hormone levels, and since I was officially post menopausal, I was put on Femara. My MO said they all have side effects, but because I was stage III, I would have to find one that I could tolerate. Femara's bad, but Tamoxifen caused a rash, and both of my shoulder froze up. It was very painful, and I spent the summer in physical therapy getting over it.
cfdr, I think my MO might have let me use a topical estrogen, but he was leaving the decision to my gynecologist, and she said she couldn't in good conscience do it, even though very little is absorbed. So strange how our docs have different opinions. I am getting my SC from a compounding pharmacy in my hometown in East TN. Send me a PM if you would like the name and phone number.
-
cfdr, you are on Femara. I wouldn't think any onc would advise estrace unless you are on Tamoxifen, which blocks estrogen. Femara acts differently.

Hi Jules59, the scream cream sounds like it is the answer! Are you suffering with the vaginal atrophy still? What about UTI? Two areas that I'm dealing with! I see my doc next week and oncologist month end, hope to get same great results!
Thanks for sharing!
1openheart, I too am so thankful for my dh! My doc said no to vagifem for now!
Time will tell!
Thanks all for the great info, so helpful to share! -
Loriw
Sorry it took so long to answer. I'm afraid vaginal atropy and UTIs are a fact of life due to menopause and Femara. But the scream cream makes intercouse so much better. And my gynocologist has given me a refilable prescription for cipro to treat the UTIs.
Let us know what your doc says.
-
Can someone tell me how to get Scream Cream? The link to the formula is broken. Who sells it? Is it actually called Scream Cream?
-
T-shift - look back on page 5 of this thread???? You have to get a prescription by a doctor and have it filled at a "compounding pharmacy" and yes....it is called scream cream. Wish they would come up with less embarrassing name for it.
-
Thanks, jancie. I doubt my 72 year old male oncologist knows what it is.
Is it estrogen based? If so I don't think I can have that.
-
T-shift - no, I don't believe it contains estrogen but some oncologists are leary about giving you anything out of the ordinary. Just take the formula with you to the oncologist so he can see what is in it. My oncologist is now giving out prescriptions to the other ladies he sees as he went through the wringer with me for 2 years as I complained over and over about the pain.
-
Hi ladies, does anyone know if its sold in Canada!
-
Loriw - You should be able to get it from any pharmacy that does compounding. I bought it recently through Macdonald's Prescriptions in Vancouver at the cost of $40 for 15 gm.
-
Thanks for that info ....where can I get the full prescription of this SC ! The Oncologist is referring me to a Gyno now....a bit of a run around!
-
Loriw - See page 7 on this thread for the info posted by gentianviolet and suz45. The pertinent info starts off by saying, "Who can benefit from scream cream?" or something like that. I was going to post it directly for you but I'm having trouble copying and pasting with this laptop (pc girl who is mac illiterate). Any doc should be able to prescribe it to you. I asked my MO and a resident doc at my last appointment... they looked it up right on the spot (I verified that we were talking about the same ingredients) and they wrote out the script for "scream cream". The person at Macdonald's who I first spoke with wasn't aware of it, but I asked that they first ensure they had all the ingredients and give me an estimated cost before proceeding with the order. They seemed to have no problem looking up the 'recipe' and compounding it for me that afternoon.
-
Sneaky, Thanks so much! I was able to retrieve the info! Curious how much you were able to get and the cost! How was it dispensed!
-
$40 for 15 gm through Macdonald's. I'm not too sure what you mean with, "how it was dispensed." It's just cream in a small container, nothing unusual about it compared to other prescription creams in terms of appearance, container, etc. Does that answer your question, or am I misunderstanding your query?
-
Thank you, you answered my questions! I appreciate it! My investigation begins, hopefully there is someone in the medical field that can be of some assistance for me!
-
Hi Ladies,
Help! I'm going to the doctor today and the link that I found for the SC ingredients is no longer working. Does anybody have a link that works? Thank you.
-
Try dancetrancers link on page 19 dated Dec. 30.

Tried zestra once. It smells horrible, and for me, it did nothing.
I was able to get my old GYN to prescribe estrace cream for me about 2 years ago, which my Med Onc okayed. But he stipulated that I should only use a little dab around the outside. And I was on tamoxifen at the time. The good thing is that this was covered by insurance. And my GYN retired, so now the new one is reluctant to prescribe any estrogen products.
Last year, I saw an internal medicine M.D., who is also holistic, and into bioidentical hormones, and she felt that estriol was fine to use. She gave me a prescription for estriol/testosterone cream to be used vaginally. This worked OK, but I only use it occasionally, as it is messy like the estrace. And since it was compounded, it was not covered by insurance. It costs about $50 a tube.
I have found something online that works nicely, although effect seems temporary compared to the estrogen products. It's made by Carlson labs and it's suppositories that contain: vitamin E, palm oil, and coconut oil. I use half of one and they are very soothing and also double as a lubricant. I put half of one inside, and it does ooze out very quickly, so can't walk around after putting one in.
For those of you really suffering, I'd try different doctors until I found one that would consider quality of life as well as quantity. My view is this: what is the point of increasing the quantity, if there is no quality?

Bump!
-
sent a message to my dr asking....hoping hoping hoping! She is awesome but I am still embarrassed to ask for it by name -
I got the ok from my dr to use the lidocaine and got a bad UTI both times
Does the pain EVER go away?
-
Thank goodness SOMEONE tackled this very sensitive matter! I had Chemo/Rads and Surgery for st 2 6 years ago, as I was living with a sex-obsessed schizophrenic... well it made no difference to him, it did however, hurt me a lot. I am now totally anti-sexual, even though I have met the man of my dreams and we are soon to be married, he loves me and the intimacy of making love, yet he makes very few demands of me, I would love to be able to be more intimate with my wonderful man. I sure as hell will give this combo a go.... Last time we tried I was hopelessly dry and the time before that I thought I was OK But then I split (Epesiotomy site), Kinda got a bit put off and scared (scared him too). Thank you for this post, I will print it all off and present it to my Onco next week. Thanks again J xxx
-
tasha - lots of lubrication!!! Once past that minute or two of entrance pain,it's really good. Unfortunately once I have had one orgasm - it goes back to hurting- I don't get it
-
Tasha, I'm not having pain. After what you've been through with your sex-obsessed schizophrenic ex, it's no wonder that you still have pain. Forgive me if this is TMI, but I recommend masturbation, so you learn how to climax quickly. (Plus, it's fun.) I also regularly do Kegel exercises. Good luck. Having a sexual relationship with someone you love is one of the greatest joys there is. It's worth working for it. I'm rooting for you.
-
I finally got the nerve to talk to my oncologist. Both she and my OB-GYN approved go Vagifem. They felt this was safe for me. It takes a while and I am only two weeks into this. I will let you know how it goes. LOL
-
My ob recommended pelvic floor exercises. They work. No more pain upon entry/exit. They can't be any more embarrassing than what we've been through. My onc approved the estring. I'm still trying to get scream cream for myself. The big O is harder to achieve and different. Thanks tamox.
-
Cherrie, I too use Vagifem. 10mg 2x/ week. I alternate it with the OTC Replense. It really helps. Now if my DH could only get it up, I would be a happy gal!!!
