It's a whopping 9 degrees right now....not much you can do outside these days...this is the coldest weather that I can remember in a long time. I did some yoga today, housekeeping, shopping & ate very well. Lots of water & green tea also. I feel better already. Tammy I'm glad to hear your hip is feeling well & your pacing yourself. It's so important to not hurt anything & stay motivated. Your right we're in it for the long haul....
Rocket let me know what you think of your bike when you get it. We were looking at the recumbent bike also.
Kathy, have a good visit with your doc tomorrow....it's always a relief to get those visits done. I see mine in February. I didn't want to start the new year with MD appts but decided I wanted to take care of few things early in the year, so I made some appts today. I will be seeing my ophthalmologist to investigate getting my cataracts done. I thought they were for old people.....looks like I'm there! Lol....

I got my bike and rode it last night and this morning. I love it! It is so easy on my joints and the seat is super comfortable. It's also very quiet and I can use it and read a book. It wasn't expensive either. I read reviews online before I purchased it. I ordered it from Walmart and it had free shipping too. It's called Marcy Recumbent Bike. I think I paid around $130 for it. I'm going to ride it again this evening. I've been riding for half an hour at a time. It's a great cardio workout if you set the resistance high enough. Ass on as my foot heals, I'll combine it with walking to get weight bearing exercise. I also started counting my points again with my diet and writing everything down so II can hold myself accountable with my eating.
Ladies, we CAN do this. Remember, nothing tastes as good as thin feels, and the first bite of something tastes as good as the last.
Love you gals!

Tenaj , thank you for your good wishes for my onc appt. I had blood work done, and yep a bone density scan is due!!! Everything went well!!! You are doing great with diet and exercise!!!! Because of you, I drink lots of water and drink a cup of green tea a day!!! Thank you!!!
Rocket, thank you for your motivational post!! This is going to be a great year for all of us!!!! Your bike sounds wonderful! I am not sure what brand the stationary bike is downstairs in our community gym, but I like it too!!! I will check out the brand tomorrow!!! Blessings to you all!!!
-
Rocket, sounds great with the bike.....just remember to pace & not over do....this is for the long haul!
Glad to hear things well Kathy. I just read a article on web MD about green tea & ALL it's benefits. One important thing is assists in weight loss but it is also an antioxidant. What I found interesting was that it said that the catechins that help as an antioxidant can be killed with boiling water so that when you make the tea in should be with 160-170 degree water. So I tested my water after it boils, I turn off the tea pot & waited about 5 minutes & it was perfect. Just thought I would share.....

thanks for the great tip, Tenaj!!!!

Happy Friday Dear Ladies. I have been doing very well this week & its paying off. I am down about 2 lbs in the past 5 days. I have been drinking at least 4 cups of green tea a day, lots of water and mostly no breads, some homemade soups. I'm managing to even do some yoga & strengthening exercises also. Thanks for the encouragement, we can do this!!
-
Janet, great result! I'm progressing a little slower but I think I've lost 1lb....official weigh in on Monday....fingers crossed!
Yoga is wonderful....I'm just struggling to fit in a class. I do have DVDs but find it hard to get motivated on my own.
Rocket, how do you motivate yourself to get on the bike at home each day?
-
Hi Tammy, good for you, your doing great. I don't do well at gyms, but I do understand what you mean about being on your own. I finally decided to DVR this yoga program that's been on forever, I started Christmas week. Would you believe this week they changed the programming & now she's not on? Really?? For the first time I was getting into yoga, she has a good 15 min show. I guess I'll dig up some of the old dvd's I bought & give them a shot before I go looking to buy another DVD.
Have a great weekend!
-
Tenaj, you are doing so great!!!! Tammy, you, too!!! I am hoping to be right behind you!!!!!
-
Happy Saturday! Enjoy...I'm off to work, I have my yogurt, red pepper & small piece of chicken cutlet packed along with my seltzer & green tea. have a great day :-)

Hey Tammy,
As for motivation to ride my bike each day, I confess that I really don't love to exercise, and I really don't like to sweat! In fact, I use a fan blowing on me while I ride my indoor bike to keep cool. I use a number of things to help motivate me.
1. I remind myself that regular exercise lowers breast cancer risk. I'm very afraid of cancer returning, so this is a big one.
2. I read a book that I find very interesting while I exercise and I only allow myself to read it when I am on the bike. Sometimes I listen to fast paced music that I like.
3. I only ride the bike for 30 minutes per day, and the bike I bought has a very comfortable seat, so I don't get frustrated with it or experience back pain.
4. I schedule my exercise just like I would a lunch date. I do it early in the morning before I take my shower unless I have a medical appointment. It's not negotiable unless I am truly sick. I bought the bike to use while my toe is healing because I can't do any jumping or long walks while it is broken. The weather here in the winter is not always conducive to outdoor activities either. Additionally there is a strong history of heart disease in my family, and I know that getting my heart pumping for even thirty minutes a day is good for me and will help control weight and hopefully prevent heart disease.
5. Lastly, I exercise because I see it as a way of loving my family. I am doing everything that I can to stay healthy for both myself and my family. People tend to think that love is a feeling, but I believe it's more of an action. It's something that I do. So, exercising to maintain my health is just another way I can show love.
You probably weren't looking for all of this were you? I don't mean to sound preachy or anything. These are just my thoughts when it comes to motivating myself to get on that bike, or go for a walk, or jump on my mini trampoline (that is very fun by the way and can give you a serious workout).
I hope this helps to motivate you or anyone else reading. We are all here slugging it out together. I am motivated to eat right when I read of the success of others too. Hang in there Girls! We can do this together!
Love you Ladies!
-
Rocket, thank you for sharing! You are inspirational and I must say I need it right now. I enjoy exercise but unless I make it a priority it can be missed in the speed of life. I will try using some of your pointers from today.
I think the most important is that love is an action....as they say your health affects everything you do and everyone you love.....if I focus on that thought it will help me say no to things I shouldn't eat and to resting when I should be exercising.
My bad news is that when I got on the scales yesterday rather than losing I had gained a pound
I thought back on what I had eaten during the week and I can see some areas for improvement. Exercise is still progressing well. I am now determined to do better this week for everyone I love.....
-
You go Tammy! You inspire me as well. Don't worry about a pound. We're in this for the long haul. Just keep making wise choices overall to stay healthy. We can all do this. Hey we fought cancer, so this is very doable!
-
Hi, Rocket, I just love your attitude and passion!! Thank you, thank you!! I sure needed that!! I am eating my salad with turkey and exercised 30 minutes today!!! I would love prayers!! My tumor markers are slightly elevated again. They were normal last blood work! My doctor says she is not worried, and feels that may be my trend, depending on what meds I am taking at the time of blood work!!! However, she is scheduling a pet scan, since I have never had one!! I am 9 years out, and have only had bone scans!! She is very thorough!! And she knows I worry!!! My bone scan was fine!! Thanks and hugs to all of you!!!
-
Very inspiring Rocket! I'm motivated!
-
Kathy, good luck with the tests
-
Tammy, thank you so much!! I am sure everything is great, just know I can come here for support and encouragement!! Hey, I am not losing a lot of weight, so it can not be too serious. He he he!! I still have a great appetite!! How is your hip feeling?
-
I am praying Kathy! I do know how scary it can be. I have only had bone scans too, and I tend to be a worry wart. I will pray for peace as well as good test results.
I rode my bike for 30 minutes this morning and have eaten healthy so far. I'm going to lunch with a dear friend and will have a salad. Dinner will be grilled chicken (yum) and a baked sweet potato. I find it helps a lot when I plan my meals so I have something to look forward to as opposed to just eating mindlessly.
Have a great day everyone, and keep love alive!
-
Thank you so much, Rocket!! Yes, my onc knows how I worry!!!! Good for you with the exercise and healthy eating!!! Have a wonderful time at lunch!!!! I rode the stationary bike this morning and just came back from a 30 minute walk!!! Feels good!!!
-
That's awesome Kathy! Keep up the good work!
-
Kathy, my hip is good! Thank you for asking.
I've done a 45 minute spin class today AND a walk.....thanks to everyone for the encouragement
-
Wow Tammy! That is awesome! I don't know. If I would survive a spin class!
-
Kathy, those blood tests are not conclusive, stay strong! You are in my prayers. Keep us posted. I understand about the worrying....it's natural with everything you've been through. I struggle with that everyday....
You girls are doing great with the exercise!!! Very inspiring......I haven't been exercising very much, but I am mapping my calories on my fitness pal & it is keeping me on track. It makes me accountable for everything I am eating.
Keep up the good work dear ladies
-
Thank you so much, Tenaj!!! You are all wonderful!! I will be just fine ! My pet scan is next Wednesday!! I feel great!!! I had a little too much dark chocolate today, but otherwise I ate pretty good!! I went on two nice walks today!! Hugs to you all!!!
-
Mmmm, it seems we are off to a good start to the year. Kathy, praying for good results....
-
Thank you so much, Tammy!!!! Have a wonderful day!!!!
-
hi ladies....it's another snowy day on Long Island....good news is that I'm not scheduled to work today or tomorrow. I've been doing very well with my calorie counting but the scale seems to be stuck right now. Hopefully the weight loss kicks in soon...I'm struggling to not bake something today! I love baking when it snows....
I'll be thinking & praying for you tomorrow Kathy, stay strong :-)
-
Yes praying for you Kathy! I really believe you will be fine.
It's snowing here too in the high country of NC. I am sick with a sore throat, earache and sinus headache. DH leaves tomorrow for a few days for a work trip. The weather is predicted to be very cold here (-1) on Thursday night. DH will return Friday night. I wouldn't go out at all except that I will have to let the dogs out. I don't like going out in the extreme cold, especially when I don't feel well. I have been drinking hot green tea with a little honey and sucking cough drops. My stomach doesn't feel too great either. Blech!
I hope you all are doing well and staying warm.
-
Mmmm baking......
Rocket, take care of yourself!
-
hope your feeling better Rocket!
