Nice to see another article showing the benefits of curcumin. I wonder how much has an effect, though? I've been taking 1 g in the morning and 1 g at night since last summer. Hopefully it's been knocking out some BC stem cells (and stem-like cells). Eh well, can't hurt anyway, since I'm not taking any drugs it can interfere with ( and I never heard of anyone O.D' ing on tumeric).

    Thanks for sharing.

Great re-inforcement of other studies, thanks for posting!  I am on 3g per day now as part of my supplement regimen. I will drop down to 1.5g/day once I am in NED status.

I take it by capsule twice daily and use it on my food at dinner most every night.  It is a blood thinner so you have to be careful if you have any other conditions in which that would be a factor.

This is interesting but as a biologist I have to tell you what happens in a petri dish doesn't always translate to what happens when you eat the compound.  It may not get absorbed by your digestive system such that it gets into your blood and gets to the tumor cells.   Probably no harm in taking it but I'd like to see some clinical studies on people eating it to see if it works the same way.

I hate to sound negative but I totally agree with LizzieK. Based on in vitro studies I also started turmeric capsules, small dose (550mg daily) since I'm on tamoxifen, and already knew that it can slightly inhibit the enzyme necessary to convert tamoxifen into endoxifen, (active form).

I had my endoxifen levels checked before starting curcumin supplement and then again, in just over a month into it. In my case turmeric significantly lowered absorption and metabolism of tamoxifen, therefore endoxifen in my blood dropped by half. I was told by my dr to stop and we retested again in 3 months. My endoxifen went back to the level from before turmeric. Turmeric was the only thing added and then removed from my diet. Im very diligent with all my meds and vit, and I record everything. I don't over supplement, just vit D 1000, liquid calcium/magnesium/vit D combination to help bones, fish oil, vit C 500, metformin. I don't know if it was just that specific brand of turmeric capsules (BELL) or combination of everything else, or just me...

So LizzieK has a point that what works in a petri dish, maybe not necessarily have the same outcome in a human body, where is combined with many other, very individual elements.

I don't doubt that turmeric has an amazing properties, but an extra caution should be exercised when taken in combination with other medication.

My naturopath told me about this shortly after dx. I've been taking it (except during chemo, rads) ever since.  Like all tx, it probably doesn't work for everyone, but I'm giving myself every opp to beat the beast, so....

I started giving my mom turmeric supplements after reading how it helps with brain plaque.  It hasn't helped a bit in improving her cognition.  At 86, she no doubt has absorption issues for anything entering her digestive tract.

Does anyone know of other contraindications for turmeric as they relate to prescriptions?

I think it contraindicates with NAC, not sure about RX though

my mother also said all things in moderation, I think though that isn't sensible either.  some things need lots, some a bit & some none

Turmeric also acts as a blood thinner so be cautious if your mom is already on prescribed thinners.

My mom does take a blood thinner.  Her levels are consistently within range, before the turmeric and during.
