Question for anyone who has done Taxol, did you get bone pain? I am not doing Neupogen or Neulasta. I have finished #4 Taxol and #5 is due on Friday. I am having rib pain and some pain in my knee, could it be SEs from the Taxol? I'm still working but am so tired. I didn't go out last night, weather was terrible, cold and rainy. Hubby went to a party for a little while but I stayed up until he got home to wish him Happy New Year! The kids came by earlier to visit and shoot some fireworks, but I was happy just to sit at home by myself. Good luck to everyone in 2014!!
-
Yes Taxol will cause bone pain. I had #7 Tuesday & expect pain in my knees & back Thurs thru Sat.
For me the SEs of Taxol aren't bad at all, not comp[ared to A&C & the Neulasta shot (UGH!). I was told about the bone pain, MO said usually hip & back area but it hit my knees first.
-
hi ladies!! Just saying happy new year to all! I have much to catch up on:). Started my tamoxifen on Sunday and so far so good. My eyebrows started falling out a few weeks ago. I still have a few but not many. I joined a gym to get this weight off since I started this.
Just wanted to cheer everyone on and thinking about all and wishing for no side effects!
-
good to hear from you lg!! I start the Livestrong program next week. I hope I can go so soon after chemo.
My back pain is getting worse. I started with half a Vicodin to take the edge off. Now if I want to be pain free I need to take two. Walking is so hard. My back and ribs just hurt. Even when I sitting or lying down. I see my MO tomorrow, since I can't do an MRI I want to ask for a pet or none scan. I would be freaking out but I think the Effexor is working.

This BC thing is rough!!!!
-
YAY!!! I just founf this thread and I am in the middle of my Chemo treatment which started October 24th with A/C just had the first of my Taxol/ Herceptin. Fell achey but WAY better than the SE from Adriamycin! Congrats on being able to go back to normal! (((hugs)))
-
welcome goosie!!!
-
Goosie
I started my A&C Sept 24....just did #7 Taxol (with Herceptin) so we're kind of on the same treatment path?
-
Welcome Goosie -- glad the Taxol regimen seems to ease your symtoms a bit.
-
Headeast - congratualtions on going back to work.
SchoolCounselor - so sorry to hear your back pain is getting worse. Hopefully your MO will come up with a plan to figure it out soon.
Gram - I'm on Taxol and have some bone pain but I also get a Neulasta shot so I'm not sure which one causes it.
Hey Lg, nice to see you!
Welcome Goosie!
Today was DD Taxol #3 out of 4. It was a long day since I met with the OT regarding lymphedema prevention at 9:30 and then went for my infusion - out at 4:45. I actually took a couple of cat naps, haven't done that before - guess the benedryl got to me or maybe I was just tired. I also felt some nausea at the end and decided to take a compazine. Just waiting for the rest of the side effects to show up in a couple of days and then I will be eagerly waiting for them to disappear again :-)
-
Pam, I'm on weekly Taxol, #5 tomorrow. I am thinking it's the Taxol, but will ask tomorrow. I seem to be more tired on these Taxol txs then with the A/C, but I am sooooo over the chemo thing now. I find I have little patience right now and am counting the weeks til I'm finished.
-
You are almost there Pam! I had my last chemo today, Picc line removed! Yippee. MO ordered a full body Pet scan and referred me to a Physiatrist. I'm looking forward to the appointments.
Due to the snowstorm. They sent me home with the neulasta shot, my mom, an RN will give it to me tomorrow. Fun!
Just trying to get all the fluids down. It is getting so hard to do that. I've been suckig on ice pops.
-
Welcome Goosie!
-
Completed #5 of 6 today and had another bag of 4 grams of magnesium. This is my second time having to get magnesium during chemo. I am also on 400 mg magnesium 3x a day and potassium 2x a day.
I hope that with getting the magnesium with chemo that next week will not be as bad as the last 2 treatments.
I am so looking forward to being done with chemo. Then I have a 8 week break before radiation starts.
Welcome Goosie - there is so much great information here.
SchoolCounselor - Congrats on finishing chemo! When I have a hard time with water I have been adding cranberry juice. For some reason my taste buds like the tart taste.
-
Hi all!
I haven't checked in for a couple of days. Hope everyone is doing OK and having a good start to 2014!
I'm at the doctor's office waiting for my Neulasta shot. Had my last chemo yesterday. Had a big crowd with me, which was cool. My mom, sister, and sons (15 & 17) were there. Everyone was so excited it's over, but I can't help be concerned about the side effects to come: the yucky stomach stuff over the next week, the fatigue and muscle pain, and, most concerning to me, the potential worsening of the neuropathy.
-
Here's wishing you all a great 2014!
I have a question? I had #2 Taxol on Dec 30th. The next day I felt good... so I did some errands, and cleaned out some cabinets, reorganized etc. I have a history of tachycardia (since I was a kid) but nothing too crazy. When it happened in the past, I would just lay flat and it would stop within 15-30 seconds. Well, the other day it happened to me, and it didn't stop at all. I got freaked out after half hour therefore I went to emergency room. My heart rate was 220!! They had to inject Adenosine to get my rate to drop. Lets just say that scared the hell out of me!! I spoke with my ONC and she said to omit the steroids. They think that is what caused the heart rate to go crazy like that... what do you guys think? any thoughts?
-
Hi all! I'm starting AC-T on Jan 16. I've been really scared about
"chemo brain." What were your experiences with it, either in the
workplace or on the home front, and what seemed to help? Thanks so much
in advance. -
my MO recommended sudoku, luminosity. He said reading is too passive for the brain. Word puzzles, word with friends. Which I have been diligently playing. My doctor is very up on research and knows chemo brain is real.
-
paloverde -- I worked throughout chemo, and I am a professor, so lots of reading papers and grading! prepping for lectures, etc. So my mind was active. It had a couple of days where it felt like I might forget things if I didn't write them down, but I think that was because of the drugs I was on, more than the chemo itself. Maybe staying active physically (I walked a lot) and mentally with work helped me to not feel too much in the way of chemo brain.
-
-
Paloverde- I worked through my chemo and I'm a nurse. I kept active, did word puzzles and words with friends also. I really didn't have much of a problem with "chemo brain" although my kid's may think I do, lol! Taxol #5 is done as of today. PS called today and have appt on 1/13 to discuss my options for surgery. Going to the NOLA docs but I live here so no big travel for me. Just need to make my decision on mastectomy and reconstruction. I will do mastectomy first then rads then reconstruction 3-4 months after rads are finished. Everything seems to be falling in place now, what a relief.
-
Paloverde, I am done with chemo, but I had some issues remembering words when I was talking, especially in the first two rounds of chemo.
-
I had episodes of forgetfulness definitely more towards the last treatment. I had 4 of AC. I did not work during chemo.
-
Malakies. I also had issues with tachycardia, every week during DD AC I complained about it and ended up in the emergency room once. The only thing my MO asked was if it I had shortness of breath and I didn't so she didn't seem concerned. My primary put me on a 30 day heart event recorder and I only had one event two weeks ago. I was supposed to have an appointment with primary today to go over the results, but got canceled because of snow. My MO did cut my steroids way back during my last two treatments, I've done 5 out of 12 taxol this week, with no heart issues, the last two weeks. There are at least two other ladies who complained about heart palpitations, so I took comfort in it being a SE, that would pass. Stairs were the cause of several heart palpitations, but twice I was just sitting playing piano. I couldn't be sure that it wasn't the neulesta shot that was causing the palpitations or the steroids, but the palpitations seem to have passed. I,m no longer getting neulesta shots while doing taxol.

Paloverde
Hi~ I have had a number of chemo brain instances. More than the usual forgetting something at the store, or why I went into a room. I can't recall names & stuff like that but that isn't scary.
Recently I let my little dogs out on their runs & then put my coat on & started my truck (cold here). I was going to leave. And leave them outside!!! Luckily my son was here & walked back to his part of the house & saw them outside!
Also I made soup & took the pot off the gas burner & never shut the stove off. Again luckily my son came home 2 HOURS LATER & noticed it!
I get worried with the wood burning furnace that I will put logs in & forget to close the door!
-
I thought my chemo brain was improving but yesterday I intended to call my onc to get a requisition for the lab for Vit. D levels to be drawn (which is free if oncologist requests it) and I actually called and left a long message asking for a prescription for a shingles vaccine. I actually looked up the name, address and phone number of the pharmacy to leave in the message.. I had a hard time explaining my mistake to the receptionist because I was still confused when she called me back.
-
Great chemo brain input, thanks! And glad Gramof2boys that things are falling into place for you!
-
Uds & School Counselor - congratulations on being finished with chemotherapy!!
Travlmom - we may end up in rads about the same time. I'm meeting with the RO 1/13 and I will have my last chemo 1/16. So I imagine that after some recovery time I will begin my rads. I'm hoping for the beginning of March as it will be closer to spring. My drive to rads will be an hour each way.
Malakies - sorry to hear about your tachycardia - I hope they figure it out and it gets better. I know when I've had to take steroids it makes me feel like I've had too much caffeine so I can see where it would have an effect on your heart. The couple of times when the dr has told me I was a little "tachy" I also felt like I was behind on my water and a bit dehydrated.
Gram - glad to hear things are falling into place.
Paloverde - I have had 4 DD treatments of A&C and #2 of DD Taxol just this past Thursday. I have not experienced any really scary chemo brain incidents. I feel like I've had a few situations where names haven't come to me as quickly as they used to but nothing dramatic. The Dr asked my husband if he thought there were any issues and he jokingly said "no she still remembers everything".
-
LOL Pam, that's funny. My husband says I have a "file cabinet" from which I can extract anything that's happened in our 20 years of marriage. He, on the other hand, wakes up almost grudge-free every day ... one time I called him Mr. "50 First Dates" (good movie with Drew Barrymore)
-
Thanks MsJean and Pam for the input. It's been 4 days since the episode and my heart rate is pretty fast while doing nothing.! I am so tired of being tired. I understand everything will be over with in no time, but honestly, today, I just want to scream! I've been crying pretty much all day. I hate feeling like a 100 yr old lady. I had my best friend and roommate tell me today (and I know she means well and doesn't have a mean bone in her body) " You are letting cancer consume you" Ummm helloooo I can't help it!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not like my life is what it used to be!! I can't do half the stuff I did before this! I feel tired all the time... and the one time recently I felt great... I was taken to the ER with 220 heartbeats per min.
I used to laugh and joke around a lot... that's not happening as often. I worked at my restaurant 6 days a week 9-10 hrs a day (and loved it!!) I was active... I had fun...consume me? Yeah... it's hard to shake it off... when your body tells you can't do any of that cause you are tired and feel like and old lady!!
And to think, before all this, I actually bragged on how healthy I was for a 49 yr old. I would run circles around all the 20 something year olds at work. Now? I can barely stay on the elliptical for 5 minutes.!
This sucks!! and I am over it! Sorry I had to rant...
