hi everyone. Very little exercise here but teaching preschoolers full time is its own kind of workout.

Glad to see everyone hanging in there...

HI Ladies! Trying to get my exercise in. I do the exercises my PT gives me for my upper body and arms (post-mastectomy and to avoid lymphedema). STILL having knee trouble since Labor Day. I've come to realize that as long as I am getting chemo the knee probably won't heal well. I finished my A/C 4 weeks ago and it does seem a little better without the major insults to my immune system. The Taxol causes different issues so maybe I can finaly start healing.Wish I could find some form of aerobic exercise that will not aggravate the knee. I try to mix in a little throughout the day.......sitting on my exercise ball at work, trying to walk a little farther than I need to, walking to other people's offices instead of calling them ont he phone.....

Keep up the little things....they add up!

I walked to the grocery store and back today, about 2 miles total. This is my first walk in more than a week--freezing weather kept me indoors.

Mara gave me the idea to walk at the mall so last night I walked my dog for twenty minutes and then I went to the mall and walked forty five. Then today I'm ravenously hungry all day. Can't win. Not exercising today.

hi two hobbies glad the mall idea helps. I gave up shopping today so no fat suit gritgirl lol . I could just see me sweating away in the posh shops.

I actually went for a walk to see the mistletoe growing in the orchard at an old house called Cothele it is in Cornwall. They have a beautiful old 15th century hall an every year they hang overhead old English garlands made from flowers grown in the summer then dried beautiful colours. There is a huge fireplace we sat by the log fire and the band played and we sang Caroles It felt really Christmassy much better than battling around the shops. I wish I could up load pictures must learn next year.

hey, all. Good to see everyone moving. Tonight I go to yoga. Glad I started going to that again.

I just found an interesting website. A cancer survivor who helps people work back to fitness after treatment. Found her on twitter. Her website is life-cise.com. very interesting

Hi Everybody - I'm joining this group because exercise is vital to my physical and mental well being. I like the ideas posted about walking in the mall but 10 days out from my BMX and I'm afraid someone could bump into me. I did hit the gym today and walked 4 miles on incline holding onto the handles. I feel sooo much better after sitting and eating junk all week. Please know that I am a runner and I do half marathons so this is not meant to compare with anyone else. I am just so happy to be moving again that I had to post this. Frankly, prior to my BMX I expected to be on life support at this point.

WW, why would you think you'd be on life support? :-)

Good for you, getting out and moving. Everything counts here.

I went to a yoga class with soul music. This time I wasn't the oldest attendee. When the song Boogie Nights came on, I wanted to get out on the rink with my skates, it was one of the big skating songs when I was a kid. :-). Good class though. So glad I'm back in yoga. Not so into the downward dog since my bmx but I can always table top.

Hi Grit Girl - It just amazes me that my boobs were lopped off and I'm still alive and kicking.

I decided to dust off my pedometer to see how close I get to that10,000 steps you hear about. Well not that close as it turns out.  Yesterday I walked5400 steps and today 5200 so far.

Warrior woman you are right to stay out of crowds. It wouldn't be a good time to get bumped.

Mara I think your event sounds beautiful. That's the kind of thing I would love and you enjoy the Christmas spirit instead of the stress of the season.

Gritgirl I found a free yoga for cancer survivors right near my house on Saturday so I'm going to sign up. It's funny when you hear a song from your youth and the memories they bring back.

I have only started my Christmas shopping so the rest of the week I'll be trudging through the stores!

Hit the stair master for the first time yesterday and back to the treadmill today.  I feel so much better now that I'm up and about.  The sitting around was making me batty.

TwoHobbies - Feeling braver today I ventured to do some holiday clothes shopping.  I needed outfits that hide my boobs because I know people will be looking out of curiosity.  It was early in the day so no crowds.  This weekend before Christmas will be maddening.  I'm staying away!  LOL

twohobbies. Good for you on the steps and yoga.

Warrior women. Glad you're feeling better.

I've been doing lots of yoga lately and today was lots of walking. I'll be in yoga again Saturday and Sunday, using the deal I bought from the studio.

    Hope everyone else is moving

I have really been a slacker the last few weeks. First it was freezing weather and now my back is bothering me. I was in a car collision on the 4th and I think I aggravated an old back injury. I just sent an online appointment request to my doctor's office. Time to stop griping and do something about it. It ain't going away by itself.

curveball. So sorry about the crash. Glad you're getting it checked.

    Ginger, good for you.

I've been doing a lot of yoga lately. Bought a deal for 5 classes and have to use them up. It was quite the yoga jump start

gritgirl, can you tell a difference in how you feel because of yoga? I hope so.  It always made me feel immediately better. I SOOO need to get back to my yoga.  But the 2x week run takes a lot of my energy.

With the holidays and cold weather it's hard to find time, but I hope everyone can find moments for walking or yoga or anything that gets your body moving and reminds you that you are still very much alive!!!!

tarheel. It's definitely loosening me up. Don't know about strength yet but I'm sure that is better too. My plan is once a week yoga. This was a time limited deal so had to use them. :-)

Don't know if this has been talked about, I was thinking of getting an exercise monitoring device. I have seen a few that attaches to an arm band or on the waist. Some measure calories burned, and steps taken. But apparently some even measure hydration level to make sure enough water has been put into the body throughout the day. I am recovering from 2 kidneys stone surgeries. I work many long hours, but have exercise bike and treadmill as well as exercise videos, weights, stretch bands at home. So thinking of starting to exercise slowly while making sure I have enough water in me throughout the day. These exercise monitoring units look lightweight. I think the data must download onto a phone or computer. Anyone familiar with these and do you like them?

I used to exercise everyday before my surgery and yesterday I was all set to go to the gym when I decided on a nap instead.  I'm proud of myself.  I needed the rest.

Still no real exercise, but I am really enjoying all the  fun christmas things especially the eating parts. Two hobbies I am really enjoying the spirit of Christmas even the shopping. It's the first year since my dh has been retired and it has made such a difference to us both.

Gritgirl the yoga sounds good but I'm not sure I could manage it I once went with a good friend and  our windy and rumbling stomachs gave us both a fit if the giggles not been back since. I bet  there pleased lol.

    Good night x

warrior woman. Good for you for resting.

    Mara, cooking and shopping count.

Today I discovered you don't eat Latin food then go to yoga. At one point the teacher had the class shouting. I figured that point was safe for me to let things go. Lesson learned.

    Hi worrier wom,

I was like you prior surgery.. Workout about 5 days a wk, mainly group fitness classes. I miss my workout routine quite a bit. I am a little over 3 wks out of UMX and still not quite there yet. I did go for a social visit to my gym last week just so I could mentally ease back. In the mean time. I take naps and trying to catch up on boring  housework:(

It sounds that you are recovering well!!

On another note to answer your question regarding LCIS, mine was found out accidentally through NSP and SSP procedure, classic kind.

    Merry Christmas everybody.

It's been pouring down rain and I hate treadmills so I ran up and down steps today. 8 floors in my apt. building, for 20 mins.

I ran in Central Park last week while in NYC for my Sloan-Kettering visit. It was just a teensy 2-mile run but now I can finally say I've run in Central Park.

Hope everyone gets lots of time for rest and exercise over the holidays.

I walked to the grocery store and back yesterday, about two miles in all. Even a month ago this was an easy walk for me, but yesterday I was really tired by the time I got home. I don't know if it was because my leg & back were hurting, because it takes more effort to walk lopsided and limping the way I was than to walk normally, chemo fatigue setting in, having had insomnia the night before or all of the above. I feel as if I've lost all the stamina I thought I had gained during the fall. >>sigh<< I saw a PA today, and he ordered a back X-ray. Based on where I am getting the tingling/numbness etc, it could be due to a bone met or to having re-injured my back—If I read the radiologist's report correctly, it's probably the latter. I also got stronger pain pills, but don't want to take them because I'll be driving to Seattle tomorrow. I'll stick to the OTC stuff for now. Enough griping from me. Merry Christmas!

tarheel. Good for you on central park. Cool.

Curve ball have you tried physical therapy on that.

I know what you mean about chemo fatigue. I'm trying to power through this latest chemo and then I got no choice but to slow down. Still walking lots and have discovered that, yes, you can do too much yoga. Oops

My exercising has been a lot of shopping and standing in line to pay!  But yesterday I decided I'm going to spend some time in peaceful nature.  It was a beautiful sunny, cold, white Christmas eve so I drove myself and my dog to the lake and walked.  Unfortunately as I am getting back to the car, I realize I have dropped my keys somewhere.  It's 10 degrees and Christmas Eve, so I'm the only fool there.  A little bit of panic ensued but I retraced my steps and found them after 25 minutes, thankfully.  Now that I think of it, that story sums up my year.  Peaceful happy period disrupted by unexpected problems!
