Furfriend - what was your allergic reaction? Rash? -
Team,
hands/finger extreme itchy with blisters. ..ecema/dermatitis perhaps? I took Benedryl for a few nights & I feel better but now my hands/fingers are cracked , bleeding , peeling and sore. -
SchoolCounselor, thank you! I love my dogs, they are elves for the Holidays! -
not sure if I am right furfriend do you put your hands in hot water a lot? I have problem with feet and hands because I was taking a lot of hot showers. I am also on different chemo but it is a side effect of mine. just wanted to make suggestion incase it helps. it is called foot and hand disease. take care...m

Ok, so I am on day 3 of Taxol #2 and I feel terrible. I have some bone pain and had terrible abdominal cramps today. WTH I did well with A/C with hardly no side effects and now this was supposed to be easier and it sucks. Anyone have cramping on Taxol? I hope I feel better tomorrow, I'm off of work but back on Tues. I am wondering if they didn't give me the dexamethasone this time since I asked to cut it down. I will have to ask my once. -
Hi Gram,
I am sorry about your Se's. I have my 2nd Taxol tomorrow & not looking forward to it as usual. I am going to take an Ativan this time. Thanks to the lovely ladies here telling me it should help with my anxiety. I too noticed the bone pain with my 1st tx. I hope your pain subsides Grams. Take care. -
Sorry about the pains ladies!! I have a new SE thrush!!! Any suggestions? I use the biotene mouthwash and probably should start eating yogurt. Is this a precursor to something else. Boy this is tough stuff. -
Furfriend -- does sound like hand and foot disease, which is a SE of the taxanes. -- Keeping you hands out of very hot or very cold water/ice, and using a good moisturizer (Aquaphor, Eucerin Calming Creme, etc) may give some relief. When I had hives for Taxotere! the Benedryl every 4 hours seemed to control the itching. Be sure to go over this with MO -- you may need steroids or other interventions to help. -
Gram - I had abdominal cramping after my 1st taxol, also muscle and joint aches and pain. The majority of it lasted 3 days and then started to subside. I think the cramping just lasted a couple of days. I will be having my 2nd treatment on Wednesday (neulasta on Thur), not looking forward to Fri - Sun. There were more days with some pain but it didn't feel like I had been hit by a truck like those first three days. -
hi everyone- need to catch up on posts but wondering if anyone else has had Chest tightening and slight wheezing. I have been struggling for a few days with this on and off. I try to calm myself down thinking i am overreacting but past 2 nights have had it. I thought perhaps was trying to fight off something like slight cold but it seems like cold air helps. It dawned on me tonight that it might be asthma. I have never had asthma before. It is scary of course which makes it worse. Wondering if anyone else is dealing with this. I think I will be calling MO tomorrow. -
lgk, chemo brings lots of SE. I don't know of that one but I would think it has to do with the chemo. Let us know what your MO says. -
thanks headeast I will. I have sarcoidosis in my lungs which complicates matters fore which is why MO puts on AC rather than TC. She told TC has chance of pu issues and with sarcoid she didn't want to risk it. Wondering if this is asthma or just me trying to fight off cold. I have been congested as well.
I will keep u posted it is scary. One minute I feel ok and next I don't. -
I would call now, lg -- that sounds like something you shouldn't mess with. My son had asthma as a child, and nothing really helped except albuterol. Given your complications, don't take a chance ( and the anxiety it provokes will be eased by getting some treatment as well). -
lg - I hope you find answers, that does sound scary. -
Fatigue hit me BIG time with this Cytoxan-only tx -- spent 15 hours sleeping out of the last 24!!! But feeling much better today.... Good thing, since I have Christmas prep stuff to do! -
ok so I didn't call...slept with window open last night. Seemed to be ok once I feel asleep. I am going to see how I do tonight and if same thing then I will call. -
lg, I hope you are feeling better today! -
schoolcounselor - you need Nystatin mouthwash for the thrush - it is a Rx so call your onc. This is a very common SE, so don't be worried, but it may happen each tx.
lg - I had very mild asthma associated with hay fever, mainly in the spring or when something is blooming, prior to breast cancer. I rarely used an inhaler, but it did flare with chemo and I had a more difficult time with it.
-
Good morning ladies. I saw my oncologist and he said that continuing chemo could kill me. He said that taxotere is known to cause bowel perforation and if I had positive nodes he would consider lowering my dosage but with negative nodes he thinks it is time to stop chemo. He said I will follow up with him every 3 months and referred me to a nutrition group. I am relieved to have that over with and will now deal with getting healthy in general and not focus on possible outcomes.
Still watching and sending positive healthy peaceful hugs to those of you still dealing with SE. xo -
Wrenn, it sounds like your gut instinct was spot on, and it is nice at your MO agrees. It sounds like you will be watched carefully, and the referral to the nutritionist is nice. You'll have to share what he/she has to say. i hope you feel better and better each day. -
thanks Kbeee, he seemed really relieved that i was ok with stopping. He said he didn't want to kill me with the treatment and that some have died. He commended me for trying.
About the nutrition he did say to avoid fat. I asked about sugar and he said there was no proof it did harm. Whew. It is hard for me to avoid sugar completely but i will tone it down. I will keep you posted on any information i,get. -
Oh my I hope all this improves & goes well with you Wrenn!
BTW have you considered eliminating gluten (flour pasta breads crackers cereal cookies etc) from your diet? It made a HUGE difference for me. I have an intolerance & have been GF for 3 years. Just a thought.... -
Wrenn, glad you have some definite answers from your Onc. Wishing you all the best with your follow on treatment. -
Vintagegal, I am going to try everything. Nutrition and exercise is my treatment now so I will be sure to do tons of research. I am also going to work on weaning from Nexium. It is really hard to do but it does interfere with absorption and has been known to cause diverticulitis too. I was just too comfortable with it all before but new year means new lifestyle. thanks everyone.
-
Wrenn - glad to hear both you and the MO are on the same page about how to proceed. I bet that makes your previous decision a bit easier since he is in agreement. Although, none of it is easy.
-
wrenn, you are always so sweet and upbeat! Thank you to all you wonderful ladies for the help and support you have provided. I haven't been on here much lately but I hold all of you in my heart.

Wrenn -- Glad to hear you reached an agreement with your MO and that you have a proactive plan going forward -- (((hugs)))
-
Since I am allergic to T, I am supposed to get Gemzar instead on Thursday. Anybody have any experience or info on "Gem?"
-
kbee- doing much better haven't had an attack. Was even able to shovel some. I do have slight wheezing. I have appt with MO on Friday for bloodwork and tamoxifen script. I don't want to start...finally starting to feel like myself and I don't want another drug into system. Ok I will stop whining....
Specialk- I started biotin supplement thanks for suggestion.
Wren- glad that you and MO are on same page. I have been thinking of you as we all know how tough this road is.
