nostrilb,
You aren't alone. We are here for you. -
nostrilb, hang in there, and stick around all this wonderful ladies, it will help you deal with reconstruction, you will get through it!
If it helps, take a look at the article about Depression on the main Breastcancer.org site. There you'll find some tips on "Helping yourself when you feel depressed" that you may find interesting.
We're here, you're not alone!
The Mods -
Nos, when we all started this journey we all felt alone. I know I did. Then I found the wonderful women of BC.org and everything changed for the better. Only the people who have been there will truly get you. Please know that we love and support you every step of the way. Come here to rant, cry, scream, laugh and lose your mind. We'll join you. Please keep us updated and know our prayers are with you. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! -
Nos, Sorry your hear, but hang your hat with us. Wander around the threads and lurk for awhile and see if you want to add them to your favs list. There are threads for every need. I',m glad the mods dropped in with the depression info from the main board. I'll add, think about hooking up with a counselor. Good now, good later. I still see mine 4 plus years later. Not near as often, but he's a phone call away if I need him. Literally. Sassy

Hi Julia, nice to see you here:) Hope DH doing better. It's always something.
Mary and spookie. Okay, I'll keep it till after jan 3-4th. Everyone is so committed during the holidays. I'd rather make sure we all get to see each other versus someone not coming b/c of something else.
Stiil exhausted from t-day, sleeping mostly on and off since LOL. But it was fabulous. I did the biggest decluttering and cleaning job since we moved in 1992. With the immense help of my new cleaning gal -Di. It's so nice.
Thinking about a nap before bed time. LOL

I know it is so difficult when you feel alone and that no one understands. I think we have all felt that way. I read this once and if is so true, it said "until you get it, you don't get it". People really do think that when treatment ends, that is it! I know that I am 3 months post treatment and I am still not 100%.
The good news is that we are all here for you and we all "get it"!! Hugs ! -
OK, Ladies. Finally something good happened and I have to share it. Some of it may be TMI so forgive me. I haven't been able to find any bras that are comfortable since my surgery almost 3 years ago. If I had to go out in public, I usually wore a thick tank top under my clothes. Now I live in the deep South, which means my solution was too hot in the summer and had my headlights pointing in the winter. Since I only have about half of my left breast remaining, that headlight pointed straight up and my right one pointed right. Oh yeah, sexy.
So, last week I was in Walmart looking for a pannini maker and I took a shortcut down the panty aisle. I saw a bra labeled "Best Bra Ever". I said "Yeah, sure." But what the heck, it was cheap so I bought one. I've been back and bought 6 more! This is an answer to a prayer. I've even fallen asleep in it a couple of times! Just wanted to pass this info along if anyone is having a bra problem. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend.
-
rohanna - Can you give us some more information about "the best bra ever?" Who makes it and is that what it is called? Thanks! -
Hi, Goodie, I'm glad to share the info. It is actually called 'best bra ever'.It's made by nobo, which I think is a Walmart brand. It looks a lot like the AhBra, but those things were uncomfortable. It has removable pads and a little clip that transforms it into a racerback. And the best thing is, it costs about 5 bucks! This is the first bra I've found that hides the fact that my breasts don't match and is comfortable to wear. If you try one, I hope you're as happy with it as I am. -
OH ROoooo, had a serious scare with divertic. Had to do some pain control with oxy b/c of overuse resulting in total body pain in the house decluttering and deep cleaning, then T-day. The oxy caused "C' fast over several periods. Had some mag citrate here and a dose two days in a row seems to have done the trick. Divertic pain has subsided. It's always something.
-
Thanks rohana - I'm going to go to Walmart ASAP. I need comfort! LOL -
Dang, Sas, I'm so sorry. If you have a fever, please go to doc and get IV antibiotics. I wish I had. My GP kept giving me oral antibiotics and sending me home. That's how it got so bad that the intestine burst. You can bet I now have a different GP. Sending you healing prayers and keep me updated. You're right, it's always something. My onc now says I have fibromyalgia. He says there's nothing you can do about it. GRRRRR!
Goodie, let me know how the bra works for you. We Banties need all the comfort we can get!
-
RO
Your doc is sorta right. There isn't a magic pill that makes fibro go away darn it! I have it too. It's a trial and miss on the meds. Most of us are sensitive to weather changes, temps, light, noise, smells. A heating pad should be your new best friend.
You might want to check out HealingWell.com the fibro thread. Lots of nice people there, me too! Great info on this da&am condition -
Spook, thank you so much for the fibro info. Fibro-ain't it a bitch! I have one of those pillow looking things that you heat in the microwave and it is awesome. Somehow wet heat seems to help better. Plus it's full of herbs and smells so good! I've found that Ablsorbine Jr. works in some areas, but it DOESN'T smell so good and it would take a whole bottle to cover all the areas that hurt. I'm sensitive to all the things you listed and more. I'm going to check out HealingWell. See you there!
See, it's amazing how helpful everyone is. I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Ro & spookie, I have postpolio, but Ai's took it to a realm I never want to revisit. I also was given the dx of Fibro. I let it be so re dx. But could have had the dx god 20-30 years ago.
The definitive dx for fibro is if you have at minimum 11 out of 18 painful pressure points. Duh, lets talk dozens more with post polio.
But docs aren't trained in post polio. Only recently has Fibro been seriously recognized as an illness. I resisted the dx until it was given an ICDM-9 code. Previously it was consider psychosomatic.
Not only are we sensitive to all things with the musculoskeletal system, we are sensitive to all things chemically.--anesthesia, chemo, pain meds, typical fibro relieving meds. Post polios are screwed in any direction.
Oh well Fuck'em if they can't take a joke
I'm a working through a problem tonight .................based on input today, the thyroid scan I had today isn't good. Lots of stuff...........I'll go to med records and pick up the signed copy by the radiologist. in the morning.................went to dinner tonight thinking------well I may be back on the fucking cancer -go-round tomorrow, have a nice dinner tonight. DBF came home as soon as he could. ----------Resolved to be okay tonight. That's fallen in the wastebasket.----found a bottle of Crème de Cacoa-----with milk it's very nice. Near to running out of cigs---------------oh chit
-
Sas, that thyroid stuff can be so confusing. We go through that with my daughter. Every dr. has a different dx and some say there's nothing wrong. I'm sending heavy prayers that everything will be ok. You've had to put up with more than your share. Enough is enough! Keep me in the loop. PM me if you want to. Sometimes I'm on here late so I'll check the insomniac thread. That is if we still have power. In the high 70's here yesterday and now a major ice storm seems to be moving in. CRAP ON A CRACKER!

Rohanna,
I checked Walmart.com and it said the bra you mentioned is no longer available. Thought you might still find some somewhere if you act fast. Has anyone tried the Genie bra or the Aah bra? I have a couple of the Genie bras and they are comfortable. They have wider straps but no option to book the back straps together like yours did.
-
Iowa, I think the bras are only available in-store. I've tried the Ah and Genie bras and didn't like them but others might. Gave those to GoodWill.
Speaking of WalMart, I tried for 2 days to order a tablet from them online. Their website is so user unfriendly and I wasn't able to order or get a response by what is laughably called customer service. So I went to nomorerack.com and got a better tablet for $20 less with more features. And free shipping. It took less than a minute and I wish I had ordered from them first because those are hours of my life I'll never get back. So I won't be ordering (or trying to) from Walmart anymore.

lovewins, those look comfy too! Is everyone through Christmas shopping? -
Finished? I haven't even started!! -
just barely started! -
not shopping at all this year...first time ever.
Well today I talked with my boss again about the fact that my fmla has run out and I still have 1 more chemo treatments and rads to go. Even with the start of the new year I do not have enough hours to get fmla without working some hours back at work. Human resources advised me my boss could approve time off to which I know she cannot at some point additional time requested off is cut off if too many people ask for it. This is for vacation time not sick time....if you take too much sick time you can be put on discipline to which I am already at my 3rd letter which means it goes to a board and it is up to them if they will fire me based on my work history (which is excellent). My boss says no way can she assure or promise me time off for rads or dr appointments ahead of time which was what I was seeking. She also has told me that no one has ever gotton fired for a illness....like I am to read through the lines. I might ad I belong to a union and they said the same thing. She said no one has ever asked her for what I am asking her for like I was a fool for asking. I like my boss. But I guess I am so thick headed and stupid that I needed to be told several times by several people nothing can be done...I finally get it. Now I sit here wondering am I such a fool to think it was not asking too much to have time off approved for rad treatments and infusion for Herceptin treatments every 3 weeks? I guess I was. To top it off I burst into tears during conversation with my boss and the union stewart and I am really embaressed about. It really unnerves me that my fate lies in someone else's hands that can decided whether to fire me...at my core I feel relieved because it is out of my hands now and into God's. Thanks for listening to me vent ladies, I know this is very personal but I needed to get it out.
-
I can't say I've been cheezed about much these days because I am in one of those flat moods. I supposed I could be cheezed for not feeling perky and witty, but I really want my pep back. I went from a broken toe to trigger finger surgery to a broken foot in only 4 months! Okay, that is something to be cheezed about. -
I guess I'm cheezed about everything and nothing. I have no Christmas spirit, isn't it over with yet? I'm not in the basement, or attic.
Calgon.... Take me away!! -
Lovewins-What state are you in? My DS does employment law in Florida, but can't advise across state lines. Were those letters of warning sent to you while you were on FMLA. If they were you may have a lawsuit. But the clock is ticking. To make an EEOC/ADA complaint the time is maximum so many months. Don't want to quote number of days b/c I forget exact number. If they have violated EEOC/ADA law the EEOC will handle the lawsuit. There have been many million dollar lawsuits re:FMLA violations.
There is a web site that has everything or almost everything on the employment problems created by CancerandCareers.org. I will check on the web to make sure it's the web site. I certainly wish I knew about them before I got screwed over.
LW, here's the direct link
-
Spookie sorry you aren't happy now ? Hope it gets better.
Rocky same as to Spookie.

Hi everyone,
I took rohanna's advice on Best Bra Ever at walmart and bought one of those bras. It is very comfortable and you can remove the pad that comes with it and replace it with your pad if you have one. Now I need to go back and buy some more in different colors.
Rohanna,
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
-
thanks sas but no they were sent when my fmla ended....I have been off since sept and had intermitten in aug.
-
LOve try and give CancerandCareers a read. THERE WAS A COURT CASE Against Michaels craft store for 1 plus million b/c the company didn't treat a post mastectomy patient right. Keep pursuing. Sorry, to tired and in pain to think better.
