Blue, I think as things are now coming together well ( not that they haven't been taking advantage of this right along ) that lots of word will go out  ( it sounds like it ) to help people see the other side of their issues in a more straight-forward, honest way.  Shame on the insurance companies, but you know....those big exec's hate to see how well they really aren't doing !!!!  They might have to do some real work now.

And then, there is this.  http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/02/1259610/-SCOTUS-won-t-hear-challenge-to-Obamacare-nbsp-mandate.

I think this goes hand in hand with why the word 'repeal' is rapidly starting to disappear from the radar.  As more and more "good" stories come out and more people get covered......the GOP will end up as usual with very little of a leg to stand on.  I think it will be interesting in a few years to look back at how we all got Insurance.

Blue, rose in the snow, ahhhhhh....and the kitten and BIG dog, so sweet.

Read interesting article in Guardian about ALEC running out of money. How wonderful.

GG - pigeons, fabulous, great stories about how they were used in WWII. Fascinated about how they know the way home?????

And a cheer coming up from me.  http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/01/1259459/-Meet-the-Press-Regulars-Chortle-at-Obama-and-Receive-Royal-Pushback-from-Maryland-Mayor.

Still so miss one of my favorite programs since Tim Russert's passing.  I watched faithfully, but some of the total clown atmosphere there now is often hard to take and harder yet to try and digest.

I've just been reading up on some newly-released October numbers, which make it look as though the U.S. is not only surviving, it's also beginning to thrive:

    ~215K new jobs in October

~Trade deficit narrows by 5.4% as exports hit a record high

~New home sales rose by 25.4%

~U.S. oil imports are down by 11% (not so good news for Canada)

And, the Congressional Budget Office forecasts significant and continuing drop in healthcare costs, based on the past 12 months -- proving, I guess, that the ACA is working well.

Bad news all around for the GOP.....

Jackie - I watched her on MTP Sunday, she is SO SO SO SO SO fabulous - absolutely feel she will be in higher office soon, and definitely on my list of Special Women, #1 is the US Senator from MA ;-)

Jackie - thanks for posting that. Love that mayor of Baltimore now. For some reason, MTP is no longer airing (last 2 weeks) in my area. Not sure what that is about.

    Good Afternoon Peeps!

I've been busy trying to clear my split rail fence-line. It's a pleasant 56 degrees out, so not too cold. Those nasty vines were tearing the fencing away from the posts ... no way we could ever afford to replace that fence ... hence my latest project.

Blue ... I am still laughing at that picture of the Great Dane licking that poor little kitty. The look on the kitten's face is priceless.

How are you doing with the Flexeril and taking your meds every two hours? I think I would have a hard time remembering to take it every two hours ... geez ... half the time I can't even remember why I walked into a particular room. I have Flexeril as well and am able to take up to three a day. I really needed two of those suckers when I came in from working on the fence!

Jackie ... Hope you get benign results "right quick." The waiting sucks.

    hugs,

    Bren

Any of you have plastic gas cans? I do. Get rid of them!

Read/watch what they say and make a decision. Personally, I hate gasoline, period, but I need it for my mower, snowblower and generator. I'm thinking I will go get a metal one now.

Honestly, I don't know what to think when reading all these new "studies" and warnings. Remember when (just a very few years ago) we were all advised, via "studies" to get our Vitamin D levels up in order to help prevent recurrence and other stuff? Now, a couple of "studies" report that anything more than the RDA (in the U.S. and Canada) is useless. <sigh>

As for plastic gas cans: the ones we have are at least 20 years old. Should I worry that when I go to fill the snow blower this winter that the can will explode?

I say it's a GOP/conservative plot -- make us scared of EVERYTHING! Probably including our own shadow.

Kam if you can find a metal one please let me know where. We've been looking for one for a long time unsuccessfully.

C4C - at the end of the video, they talk about the conditions where ignition occurs - cool temps and can not full - counterintuitive hey?

They are also looking at putting - was it "filler guards" in the spout? Whatever they're called, they would help prevent these occurrences. No mention of retrofits. I'm not taking any chances, myself.

*** Edited to add - definitely only fill engine when cold!!! They mentioned that. Not sure if that was make or break though - confusing since you'd think you'd need a spark to ignite the gas?

GG - I haven't looked recently for metal cans, but I would think they should be available.

On the Vitamin D RDA thing. I watched a one hour Youtube video by a Nutritional Physiologist from UCSF speak to Vitamin D. It was a while ago, but he definitely advocated more than the minimum...I think he liked 80-100...and he said you'd never overdose with 5,000 IUs a day, which he advocated.

But I agree, my head is spinning on these things too. As much as the world hates statins (me too), I just read another article that they might be good for cancer (I quit due to shin pain, though they did lower my LDL significantly), especially being brca2+:

I'm not ready to toss my gas can based on this report. And it would seem if these "arresters" haven't been added to the metal cans the risk might be similar in those unique situations described.

Seems there was some safety reason years ago that pushed the industry towards plastic but I don't remember for sure.

    Have to hit Google guy.

Amazon.ca has metal (stainless steel, mostly) gas cans. I'm sure Amazon.com has them as well.

Kam: I had to go across the river (to NYS) to purchase 5,000 IU Vit D3 capsules, and take them every day -- just in case! And waiting for a new "study" that refutes the latest ones I read a week ago.

We've been using metal for years - I haven't seen plastic ones here at all.

All packed, showered, waiting until Steve eventually gets ready - he's got a bit over an hour :) I couldn't sleep last night. I get nervous before we travel but am not scared of flying - I just like things to go to plan. Got my pet taxi driver booked for 8:30.

I'm hoping to get time to catch up with Aly while we are in NZ.

    Have a good time Suzie!

Bren, it's very easy to remember to take my meds. I start to turn to stone at the 2 hr. mark so Mr. P is a constant reminder. Seems to be working ATM but things change here on a daily basis. No 2 days are alike.

This article would go along somewhat with Carrots.....though it is from Consumer Reports and seems they are now giving ACA web-site pretty darn good marks.   http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/03/1259932/-Consumer-Reports-on-Fixed-Healthcare-gov-Site-It-s-Terrific  There will likely still be some thing that doesn't work right, but over all ----  I think site is definitely working and going to work well. So that would be REALLY bad news for GOP.  After all the dire predictions, warning, negative stories.

If the GOP could  ( haven't made that much of a dent yet I don't think ) make hash of this Presidency.....it might give pause for thought to who may run next ( thinking female here ) with the viewpoint towards how difficult it could be.  So far, difficult for Pres. Obama, often.  Still, all those efforts being made by the GOP have almost always, in the end made them look the fools and mis-fits for working so hard on that and not much of anything else.  Be interesting what will be said in later years about the 'do nothing' party of stupid from 2012.

As for the gas cans --- I think we have two or three of the red ones.  Not saying I would be as "comfy" using them after seeing that piece.  I also think......given enough time ( law of averages)  things could happen.  I think I might pay attention to not filling a machine ( maybe take a coffee or coke break ) when it has just been shut down or quit from lack of fuel.  I also think we fill them when they are getting 'down there' as we are three miles from a gas station.....and it is just easier ( especially when you know you have the whole two acres needing it ) to keep them fuller, rather than emptier.

I've heard so much about D 3, and it is hard to know just what to do.  My Oncologist and PCP are happy with my numbers and  in part, I do take a D 3 morning and evening.  It is combined with calcium and I'm told makes each work better.  Also told that to hold in the maximum amount.....taking twice a day was better.

As far as cholesterol drugs......they may indeed keep some cancer from showing up but I fear the damage to the liver.......sigh.  I guess in the end it is a huge matter of weighing ( though most try to do that anyway ) need versus risk -- likely combined to a degree with stage, grade, age, and maybe other personal medical issues.  I'm inserting double sigh here.  Maybe I'll just turn around four times with eyes closed, open them and point to the direction I'm standing and see if I feel lucky at that point.  Maybe that will do it.
