    YEAH! This is a test AND my first post in what seems FOREVER also known as the "upgrades to discussion boards"! I had an original iPad, first generation. And could not post! My DH sent me the second iPad, and now I can post in BCO! Thanksgiving indeed.

    Good Morning Everyone!


    Brrr ... it's cold this morning ... 26 degrees out! But the sun is trying to shine!


    Scuttlers ... so happy to see you ... how are you feeling?


    Glenna ... thinking of your DH and hoping he's healing quickly.


    Rosemary ... thinking of your DH as well .. glad the surgery was a success.


    Tim took Tank to the vet this a.m. for his shots and some flea medicine. I swear ... all the wild cats that roam my fields are bringing these damn fleas to my dogs. Maggie's were so bad she had to go on antibiotics to clear up her skin. I've vacuumed and sprayed all the carpets already. Luckily most of our house is hardwood so only one room with carpet and a few area rugs. I wish these people around here would keep their cats in the house. They live in my backyard and garage!

    Interesting quiz, Notself! My score was 84.85%, not bad for a Canuck, eh?


    Bren -- I agree about keeping cats indoors, however that really only applies to folks who actually value their pet cats as members of the family, IMO. While cats are very clever and can escape most situations, they're basically sitting ducks for flying predators, as well as coyotes, wolves and other large carnivores. Not to mention cars, trucks and city buses.....


    We had about 4 inches of snow night before last, and it's just not warm enough today for melting to begin. I'm so not ready for winter weather, but I guess it's time to take those spring jackets out of the hall closet and replace with down-filled ones -- you know, the ones that make us look like a cadre of Michelin Men <sigh>.

    Carrots ... I have a neighbor down the road who feeds the wild cats ... but he doesn't take care of them or get them spayed. It makes me sad. And my closest neighbor leaves her three cats outside during the day. Poor things are cold and go in my garage. Then the wild ones poop in the leaves in the field and Tank has a thing for cat poop. It grosses me out. You should see me chasing after Tank while walking Maggie on the leash. She won't run and I'm practically dragging her along to get Tank out of the leaves!

    Scuttlers -- as much as I love Apple products (even if BCO doesn't), they are not designed to work in the world, it seems, for more than several years. I was near an AT&T store one day and walked in to "just look" and when I told them I was having this trouble and that trouble with my first generation Iphone, they were surprised that it even worked! Ofcourse they wanted to sell me a new phone and I have to say, I was so much happier after I bought it. I dropped my IPad once and it quit working. "They" got it working for about 3 weeks then it just died. Loved it while I had it and can't justify buying a new one, given my newer Iphone functions quite well. My MacBook seems to be defying the odds at this point. Now, if BCO could work with Mac products, that would be a bonus!


    Blue- thank you for all of the kitten pictures. Surprisingly, I am already thinking of a new cat. I miss Ms Boo and just having a second cat around, period, so much. I passed off my Ms Boo to the Veterinarian/Pathologist, yesterday, in the Macy's parking lot south of me. What a nice man he was. He put her little frozen body under the doug fir boughs he and his wife were bringing home from their mountain cabin. This morning he wrote me a nice email they arrived safely home with Ms Boo as he knew I was concerned and reluctant to part with my sweet girl. I should know more about what happened to her by Monday - at least a preliminary report.


    My cat(s) can go outside, but I have cat fenced my backyard. I couldn't imagine letting them roam free - for my sake! I'd worry they'd get hit by a car or worse. On the other hand, I would find it hard to keep them inside. My cats love to smell things and just enjoy nature. The fence is a huge hassle with the snow, though and it's not cheap. It's a tough choice.

    Bren - do they have any Trap-Neuter-Return programs in your area? Those programs will support feral colonies and might appreciate that the gentleman is feeding them (the hardest part). That way he could atleast get his population of cats under control. It's also amazing how people will sniff out these situations and start dumping their unwanted cats into these feral colonies.

    Kam .. I'll have to check with the local SPCA and Human Society. While walking my dogs today, my elderly neighbor lady came out to see us. She had just rescued a cat from a friend of hers and today he got out. She was hoping I had seen him. I did see him down in my fields in the blackberry shrubs. No way I could catch him and Maggie wouldn't let me get close. I hope he makes it home.


    I really wish the man feeding all the wild cats would at least get them fixed. He's not stupid ... he's a college professor for pete's sake.

    Bren, that cat might try to find it's way back to it's original home or start running with the ferals. My friend's father lived across the street from her. When he died, she took his cat to her place. After a couple of weeks, she let the cat outside, but the cat would always return to her father's house. Inconveniently, the house between her and her father's house has a well established feral colony. Cecily, the cat, is now hanging with the ferals. I think, partly, because my friend and her husband are out of town so much, so the ferals are sort of company for her. Cats are very attracted to their geography.

    Notself - 90.91% and some of them were really guesses...tricky who knew the puritans were such negative people???? So much for the hype about religious freedom?


    Bren - temps in the 20's would be considered a heat wave up here ;) S'posed to warm during the week, but this is really unusually cold up here. Wonder if Alexandria was up in VT. They're gonna get a lot of snow the next few days...


    Still wonder what that GORGEOUS bird Blue posted a page back was? is? Not in any of my USA bird books...I looked.

    My dh and I are on the way home from Florida. Passed snow in Tennessee. Wasn't expecting that so soon.


    Re macs. Love them. Even I can't crash a Mac. My mini iPad is my constant companion.

    Coming in to say hi.  I finished up my work today......got to come home early.  Glad to get a nice-sized paycheck and very handsome bonus.  The people I work for are so very, very nice.  The Dr. often tells me how much they appreciate what I do for his MIL. MIL is 97, but does everything for herself, and I do mean everything but just can't cook.  She very, very seldom goes out..........and I stay right with her and get her to talk and "recall" things and it has made her SIL and DD very happy.  I enjoy Sally ( her nickname ) and enjoy her stories so it is not work to me.  I have always had an affinity for older people so this sort of work suits me fairly well. 

    I will be showing up on a more regular basis now as I'll be returning back to my regular schedule.

    Enjoying holiday left-overs.  My cousin ( much more like a sister to me ) knowing I was not home to cook called my Dh to come over and bring containers with him......she filled them up and viola, turkey and trimmings including pumpkin pie.  She also send along the carcass.  I boil it for the broth and stow several jars of broth in my freezer and have the taste of the holidays for at least 6 mos. 

    Anyway....I'll see you all in the morning.
