OMG .. the picture of Spockobama is hilarious!

Gals ... thanks for all the tips about preparing Thanksgiving dishes in advance. Tomorrow I'll do the pies and green bean casserole. I put my tree up already and it's beautiful ... perfect for company on Thursday!

Tim will be home quite late tomorrow, so he won't be able to pare the apples for me. arghh. For some reason I always end up slicing off a fingernail while I'm doing it.

Blue ... that's a pretty good-sized turtle. How did he get to the top of the aquarium?

Sunnyflowers ... it's been very cold and raining non-stop today. I would rather have snow than the muddy mess we've got right now.

    hugs,

    Bren

MMM MMM, MOTHERFUCKER. This slick ass side dish should keep everyone’s mouths stuffed without all the sodium in those shitty stovetop mixes. Don’t fuck around with that bland boxed bullshit because if everyone is sitting around the table chatting during Thanksgiving dinner, SOMEONE FUCKED UP.

    HERB AND MUSHROOM STUFFING

9 cups diced, stale bread (about 1 medium loaf of crusty bread)

2 sweet onions, slightly larger than your fist

    2 large ribs of celery

8 ounces of mushrooms (button mushrooms, cremini, or whateverthefuck you can find at the store is fine)

1 ½ tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary

    2 teaspoons dried thyme

    3-4 cloves of garlic

    1/8 teaspoon salt

    pepper to taste

1/3 cup white wine (you can use broth if you don’t have wine)

    1 cup vegetable broth

    2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

juice of 1 lemon (about 3 tablespoons)

Cut up the bread into cubes no bigger than a bottle cap. I used a combo of sourdough and whole-wheat loaves because that is just the shit I had available at the time. Use whateverthefuck you want. Just make sure it’s stale as a motherfucker, almost like croutons. You could cut it up the day before to speed up the staleness. If your bread is too soft, toss that shit in the oven around 250 degrees and stir it around every 10 minutes while you cut up the veggies. In about 20 minutes the bread should be choice.

Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly oil a 9 by 13 baking dish and set that shit aside. Chop up the onions, celery, and mushrooms so that all the pieces are about the size of a chickpea. You wanna aim for about 3 cups of chopped onions, 1 ½ cup chopped celery, and 2 ½ cups chopped mushrooms. In a skillet or wok heat up the first tablespoon of olive oil over a medium heat and sauté the onions for about 3 minutes or until they look translucent and shit. Add the celery and mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes until all the veggies start getting soft. Add the herbs, garlic, salt, and pepper and cook for another minute. Add the white wine and let all that shit simmer for 4 more minutes so the flavors can all mix together. Turn off the heat.

In a big ass bowl, add all the veggies and liquid from the skillet to the bread and mix it all together. Pour the vegetable broth and the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the whole thing and mix that shit up good so that everything is coated. Pour all that into the baking sheet. Cover that with foil and bake it for 20 minutes. Your place will start smelling pretty fucking dope. After 20 minutes, remove the foil, gently stir that shit around, and bake it for another 10-12 minutes until there are some crispy parts. Take it out, add the lemon juice over the whole thing, mix it up, and taste. Add more thyme, salt, pepper, whatever you need to get it right by you. Serve warm.

Serves 4-6 people as a side

A good laugh with a good recipe!

Bren, I added too much water to the tank which made it easier for him to reach the top.

Gonna go look for some ghosts....they might give me a massage! Night all!

C4C - as far as posting an image, you're just not trying hard enough. First, stand on your head (make sure to turn your computer upside down), pat your belly and using your non-dominant hand, make sure you attempt inserting atleast 10 times with no results.

    Kam - tee, hee.

Blue - that is FABULOUS. Wonder what they're gonna think of Xmas?

Oh, it's a gonna be such fun when all this rain freezes tonight....puddles, big puddles of water in the fields, the trees will probably look beautiful when they're all covered in ice, tonight. Shelter in Place.

Hope everybody is where they need to be, and that Bren's Mom will drive CAREFULLY if it's as wet there as it is here, phew...just imagine what all this water would look like if it were snow....whew, we dodged a big one.

    Can almost smell the turkey.

Kam -- I'm way ahead of you, dahlink! Tried that...didn't work! Also faithfully followed the Mods' less convoluted instructions but...no deal.

We got about 2 inches of snow here in Niagara last night -- the nor'easter sideswiped us, but dumped part of its load on Buffalo down river. Today it's windy and cold BUT the snow is melting. Hope everyone is cozy and warm and, if travelling, that you make it safely to your destination.

Warm thoughts going out to Glenna's DH today, who's having heart surgery. Not a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving, but celebrations will be delayed while he's on the road to recovery. Fingers and toes crossed as always.

It's been DRY here in western Washington.  Totally unusual weather for which we've giventhanks!  We are basically moved. Some of our furniture is still wrapped in plastic and I hhaven't found my silverware yet, but hubby found the turkey roaster, so we're good to go for tomorrow.  Did I mention that hubby's family decided that Thanksgiving is at our house.....

Warm wishes to Glenna and her husband.

So happy for the stable status for Glenna and Chickadee!

I remember the good old days when stores didn't put up their Christmas decorations until December 1, radio stations didn't start playing Christmas music until 2 weeks before December 25, and you didn't see a Christmas movie on TV until the week before Christmas. Everyone I know complains about being inundated by "Commercial" Christmas LONG before the 25th of December. And now we have Caribou Barbie and her hangers-on, along with that idiot O'Reilly on Faux Snooze bringing out this old shibboleth -- at the same time using this holy day in the Christian calendar to make a buck. Well, one good thing -- Caribou Barbie's book is something like 375 on the Amazon best-seller list.

Congratulations gg on your move. Hope your first Thanksgiving is the best of many, many happy ones to come in your new home.

Glenna & DH - special good wishes for your continued health and happiness too. This will be an especially thankful Thanksgiving for both of you.

    RL - that's a great cartoon.

what c4c said about commercial Xmas. There is a movement to BOYCOTT all the stores who are opening on Thanksgiving, and I think it's taking hold. Many other stores have refused to open.

I make all my presents for friends, so the commercial thing has never been a problem for me, but I sure feel badly for anyone who has to work on Thanksgiving, or Xmas. SO not fair.

Hah - C4C, I was at Costco and there were two stacks of her books.  Nobody was buying them.  I covered them up with several copies of a book about FDR!  HAHA!

Ok - will be at different Costco on Friday - will oblige. A that particular Costco, the Tundra Tart might actually have a following.

Glenna - I missed about your husband. So sorry, my mind is distracted these days. Wishing only good health and recovery for your DH.

Worrying about E? No news? She's awfully quiet.

Myself, I boycott holidays, so I can't personally relate to the bruhaha, but I certainly can understand everyone has different needs. Employees are not widgets to be used up and thrown away. Considerations should be made for special days and celebrations.

C4C - I guess Steve Jobs never anticapated the problems at BCO - I think only Apples have these problems here, could be wrong.

    Afternoon Everybody!

You guys are cracking me up today!

I just took the apple pie out of the oven and put in the blackberry pie. OMG ... the house smells so good. Just like apples and cinnamon.

Tim is stuck somewhere in NC and won't be home until tomorrow. My mom is really under the weather so she's going to wait until tomorrow to drive up. I'll have to look up the instructions for using a brown bag on the turkey. They're missing from the little bag box.

I'll take a picture of the tree and post it when I get a chance. It's so much easier to post a picture on Facebook, then just copy it over here.

Glenna ... thinking of you and your hubby today. I hope all goes well with his heart surgery.

Kam ... hope your heart is healing. I'm missing Enjoyful too. Hope she's okay.

Sunnyflowers ... it's fun to make Christmas presents. Although this year, we're not celebrating with gifts. Of course I have to send presents to San Diego, but that's it.

Is it snowing up there? We've got snow coming down now. It's so pretty .. but it's not sticking to the ground. Guess I should be grateful I won't have to shovel snow tomorrow!

    hugs,

    Bren

We had a major snow fall last night. Well may be not major, but it was the first snow that stayed on the ground. And this is the first snowfall since diagnosis that I was physically able to go and do something about where it had landed. I didn't shovel the driveway, we contracted that out 4 years ago. But the sidewalks and porches. It is so beautiful. Really.

    Morning all

Thanks for my morning giggle. C4C are you doing what I was, following the instruction but pressing cancel and not insert when posting pictures - I shouldn't admit this LOL though.Anyway I agree about Christmas decorations etc. It was the beginning of November.

We too have problems of stores opening on certain holidays. Stires here are closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Anzac Day( our memorial day) and Christmas Day. Four times a year and people think they have to be able to shop. When I was a child most places closed from Christmas Day until after New Year and we all seemed to manage.

Had better go and get organised as I am off to Australia tomorrow to meet up with the Aussie group.

Happy Hanukkah to all those celebrating.

    Big Hugs to all.

Years ago when we lived in the UK, the stores closed at noon on December 24 and didn't open until 6 days later. I had a small (under the counter) fridge, and wondered how I was going to store all the food! Managed somehow, as we always do. Here in the GWN, stores are closed Dec. 25, January 1, Good Friday and Easter Sunday, and July 1 (Canada Day). Was happy to hear that Costco -- the store that pays its employees well -- said that its employees DESERVE Thanksgiving Day off to spend with their families. Another reason to boycott the stores that only care for their bottom line, and not for the folks who who help them achieve that bottom line, and who don't understand the importance of providing a living wage.

Hi Gals! The pies are done and the house smells divine. Got the tree up too ... like to have it up and decorated for Thanksgiving. The tree is artificial and really darn old, but it has sentimental memories for me. One year when we were so broke we were not going to have Christmas or a tree ... a dear breast cancer survivor friend sent me the tree from her home in Miami. I treasure that old raggedy ass tree! I decorated it with home-made bows and gold and burgundy ornaments

Kay, I got a picture of our house (in your area(: ) sent to me this morning. Beautiful indeed. We are due home on Sunday.

I agree that Thanksgiving should be a day of. A day of family and thanks for all. I am looking forward to Christmas Eve. It will be the first time in 12 years that I won't have to work.

LOOK AT THOSE PIES!!!!!! I can smell them..I'm on my way!

We have had about 2 inches of rain, fields are flooded, as is my basement, natch. Can't imagine what this will be tonight & tomorrow when the temps go into the 20's for two days. Icemageddon.

Thanks for the report on Glenna's DH. Now we just have to hear from Enjoyful.

Kam - I'm with you on the holidays. And, I think we may shop at the same Costco ;)

I can relate to the refrigerators in the UK. Lived there for years, and had to go to Harrod's to get a "grown up" fridge, which is what I said to the lovely salesperson, when asked what I wanted, a grown up fridge. He thought I was bonkers, which I was after trying to live with a toy fridge, which did, in fact, fit under the counter cuz it was the size on the outside of a dishwasher, smaller inside. There were no discount stores at that time, wow, everything was SO expensive.
