October 2013 Chemotherapy

VintageGal - my BS gave me the option of having a lumpectomy first in order to get to chemo quicker (less healing, less chance of issues) to kill the cancer cells that may be out there on there own since the cancer was in my lymph nodes. She then said if I wanted to I could have a mastectomy after chemo and before radiation. I'm currently deciding to stay with my lumpectomy.
Gram - yes coming off the Dex can cause those symptoms. I know the medication is helpful but I don't like it's side effects.
Lg - Happy Happy Birthday!!! -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LGKGDE13 -
Gram, when I was on A/C I did my treatments on Thursday and Sunday-Tue were my worst, I cried all the time and just felt like crap!!!!!!!!! Good luck everyone having treatment this week and hope everyone has a nice day❤️
Shary -
happy birthday lgk.... Here's to many more!!! -
Happy Birthday lgkgde! Hope you have a great day in spite of it also being a chemo day! Good luck!
Today is much better so far this morning, slept well. I don't feel the funk this morning. I took off today before all this crap came into my life so I will make the best of it! Grand babies are coming over, they always put a smile on my face!!! Have a great day everyone! -
Happy Birthday lgkgde. Next one is going to be fabulous. I hope your day goes ok.
I hope everyone else is doing ok too. I slept well with the help of zopiclone. I gained 8 lbs overnight even though I hadn't eaten much yesterday. Hopefully that will go down once I stop the steroids (tonight). My daughter shaved my head to make shampooing easier since I was still having to rig special efforts to avoid getting my wound dressing wet.
I had a rough evening with nausea and heatburn and fatigue but I thinik a lot was from not sleeping the night before. Will take claritin soon for my neulasta shot this afternoon.
Wishing everyone the best day that can be expected. -
Hi wrenn, sorry you're feeling rather poorly but I'm glad you were able to get started on your chemo treatment finally! I know you've had a long haul but you've got this, sister! -
Thanks Macy, I am actually feeling much better right now than I was last evening. I am sure a good night's sleep helped and I already took an ativan today after my steroids. :-) It is so nice to be able to come here for tips.....and to whine and moan.
Hope you are doing ok. -
Wrenn, make sure you take your nausea meds regardless if you are feeling good. It stops the nausea, I took mine for 2 full days after my treatments and never had any problem with nausea. Hope you do well today. I started them the evening of my treatments and did really well. -
Gram, I'm not really clear on what my nausea meds are. I was told it was the metoclopramide but that doesn't seem right. I will call today to get it clarified. I took a low does ativan today and will wait to see what they say about what else to take. Thanks -
lgk, Happy birthday!
Wrenn, nause medicine: Ondansetron HCL 8 mg or Prochlorperazine 10 mg -
Headeast I have the zofran (ondanestron) but was only give 1 tablet to take before each treatment. I will ask about taking more. Will also ask about the prochlorperazine. Thank you -
Wrenn, just to let you know, the Zofran have me a terrible headache. You basically have to take it along with Tylenol or Advil, whatever your MO prefers for you to take. -
Thanks, I think I will try to manage without it. I have ginger gravol, ativan and metoclopromide and so far have not felt like throwing up...just a bit icky. I feel pretty lucky so far and all of these tips sure make this road easier to travel.
I also have the luxury of not having to do anything. I can't imagine having families or work. I basically just have to feed my cat so I am ahead of the game, -
Happy Birthday LG! Welcome to the Fabulous 40s. It will be fabulous soon. -
Hi Wrenn,
I am familiar with the cancer centre in Vancouver as my husband spent some time there several years ago. Did they prescribe Emend? My MO gave me that & I take it 1 hour prior to chemo and then every morning for 2 days. I have never had nausea..
wishing you all the best....
-
Happy birthday LG, -
Happy birthday LG and wishing you many, many happier ones to come.
Finished 4th TC yesterday and on to herceptin only after this. The road is long but one day at a time helps and focusing on the present.
Good luck to everyone finishing soon. -
I am able to tolerate Starbucks decaf peppermint mocha after about the fifth day. Regular mocha has been vile tasting ever since 1st chemo. -
thank you everyone for bday wishes!!! Actually having it as my bday was a nice distraction. My MO and nurse practioner surprised me with beautiful birthday cake. I am so shocked. What a team they are! Here is pic. I shared with everyone in chemo room. -
Thanks Gia, i will ask about that. i have been ok this afternoon. I think the ativan took care of it. I also used metoclopromide this morning.Got back from injecting the neulasta and that went well. I skipped the Claritin until I see how it goes since I am taking so many other things. The nurse didn't think the pain would be bad so I will wait and try tylenol first. I have a lot of arthritis and fybromyalgia pain that I rarely use anything for so might not notice it much. I guess I shouldn't jinx myself though or will be back here tomorrow bemoaning the fact that I didn't do the Claritin early.
Peppermint mocha should taste good at all time. :-) I wonder if pumpkin lattes would still be as good? :-) -
wrenn - metoclopramide (Reglan) is indeed an anti-emetic so you should take it and the Ativan and your steroids for nausea. If they don't work make sure you get something that does.
Be careful on anything peppermint if you have had issues with heartburn - it will make it worse, or bring it on.
-
my dauber came home from college with a cold! Now I am paranoid I will get it. Any suggestions for keeping healthy? I don't want to delay any tx. -
LGK-Oh beautiful cake - cut me a big chunk of this would ya?!and happy bday again pretty lady- forty and fabulous!!
Wrenn-don't forget to feed the cat, LOL
I'm not able to do much coffee right now. My normal is 3 cups a day and now I do 1/2 cup mixed with cocoa. I am sooo glad chocolate still taste quite good to me.
All the best ladies -
Smr,
I am not being funny but do you have one of those mask- like dust mask. I would say spray down everything incl door knobs-don't share phones. -
Hi Pam 358
My BS wanted to do a re incision 2 weeks after the lumpectomy. It was a lot of digging into the chest wall & being very small breasted a lot was taken, plus he wasn't happy with the margins. More importantly the cells on the skin were an issue. But the MO said don't go back in, start chemo. So my thought is things kinda went from bad to worse there (oh 14 nodes out 2 positive) so I am leaning towards a BMX, I don't ever want to go through this again!
I had my 2nd Taxol today, went well. But the MO said my fatigue is still from my low WBC & being anemic. She thougt that would have come up by now, (been over 3 weeks) . -
Thanks Special K. I forgot about the peppermint. Will watch that. I had a ginger lemon tea that was pretty good and tons of water. Water is still tasting ok and coffee was not best but not bad. Happy to have taken my last dexamethasone dose. Although it was nice for energy I felt a little too jittery.
What a nice birthday cake. I am sure you appreciated it even if it didn't taste as good as usual -
lgkgde 13
wow nice cake, & how nice of them. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
VintageGal -
VintageGal - sounds like your BS has some real good reasons to go back and do another surgery and make sure they get it all and you don't have to do any of this again.
Wrenn - glad things are going so well. I'm with you, I feel too jittery with the Dex.
Lg - that was so sweet that your MO and nurse got you a cake - you deserve it! -
How are you doing Pam? You aren't around much and I think about you and hope you are busy living a normal life and not suffering side effects.
