A further note here. I did stop sometime back reading what others say. I take great delight in going only long enough to click out of a page of blue lines. There has been a poster or two turn up --- I personally think it is someone who used to be on that site and they have come back. So.....another blue line gets added.
I used to read almost daily, but after a while the total lack of warmth, empathy, willingness to work on and solve problems became so evident that it became boring and repetitive to me --- lack of warmth and flexibility is just something I can only tolerate so long. So, I now don't worry about whom I might upset. It ceased to matter when I quit reading. I do know that it can be hard -- same reason why we keep up with the GOP --- so not to be blind-sided, but it just is easier for me to be me. If it could be proven to me honestly, without racist rancor, and with a great degree of flexibility ---- but I digress as I'm now talking about how it is here. (((((Blue)))))

RL, Pip, Jackie - what we're all talking about is the lack of COMMUNITY. It's what JFK was talking about when he made his famous speech about "race" in America.
Especially hypocritical when individuals who define themselves as "Christian" and lead with that label, seem to ignore The Golden Rule. Can't get more basic than that in "religious" teaching. Which is why I read, listen to so little that is aired today in most media.
This is what I like to read. Hope others will enjoy it too. Think of what Jackie says when I read it. -
If I have no children and pay for education in my taxes, or if I am healthy and pay for health care in my taxes, it is because I want to live in a society that has well educated, healthy people. My taxes also go to roads that might not be on my route, to fire fighters who might not need to come to my house or police who have no crimes to solve at my house (etc. etc.). That's just fine because if I never need those services, I am very fortunate indeed. If I do, then they are there for me just as they are there for my neighbours. That's the kind of society that meets the criteria "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". -
Good Sunday Morning,
Trying to get up the nerve to get dressed and walk the dogs. It's in the upper 20's out right now and the wind is blowing at 15-20 mph. Argghh. I wish the Great Lakes had kept the storm up there! Tim left this a.m. and he's heading towards the northeast and he was freaking about the weather. He worries way more about the weather than I do!
What's funny about all the people complaining that they have maternity coverage and the men don't need this is that company covered insurance covers this for all their employees ... so even before the ACA plans, employees were paying for services they may never need. Tim was ranting about "Obamacare" the other day. I pointed out that he is currently paying for maternity coverage through his BC/BS policy at work.
Guess it's time to drag my sorry ass outside.
hugs to all,
Bren -
lassie -
bren -- We Great Lakes folk are still enduring the cold, although the blustery wind has finally settled down into a gentle breeze! -
Yep, Lassie, that is the crux of it. If someone doesn't want to chip in to the community good, then it won't be there when they need it. If someone doesn't want to lift a finger to help his or her neighbor, then who will help them when they need it? -
YES YES YES, Lassie. You sound like the US Senator from MA, Elizabeth Warren. About the BEST COMPLIMENT I could pay to anyone. YES YES YES
America, land of the free, etc. AND your socioeconomic "status" and your race, are such vital factors in determining your life, IMHO, it's "class" more than "race" - but still, it ain't a level playing field. There is less "social mobility" now than ever, and again, I don' t know which religion it's in, but must be somewhere, not to "blame" the "sins" of the fathers & mothers on their children....
How can anyone not want to have ALL children well fed, clothed warm. I remember the pictures of Robert Kennedy when Marion Wright ( before she became Edelman, I think) was showing him the poverty in the South - the poor, hungry children - his face was a mirror of sorrow, and surprise, he just didn't know it existed in our country. Guess he hadn't read How the Other Half Lives when he was in college.... -
I think the folks who hate the ACA because they think it's "government-run" and "socialized medicine" (which, IMO, are not bad things, but I digress...) simply do not have a clear understanding of how insurance works. And I'm also thinking of my DH's cousin who doesn't want to pay for anyone else's healthcare (ironic, considering she's a retired school principal in Florida who enjoys Medicare...) Every time they pay their house insurance premiums, they're helping subsidize the family whose house has burned down. Every time they pay their car insurance, they're helping subsidize the family of the teenager who crashed his car. Even taxes can be considered a form of insurance -- you and others pay municipal and state taxes to "insure" that the highway you drive is paved and has its potholes filled in every spring. And even if you don't have kids in school, your taxes are helping insure that all the kids in your community have access to education.
Insurance is possibly the best evidence of socialism there is, although heaven forbid it should be called that!
Why shouldn't comprehensive healthcare for everyone be considered every bit as important as paved highways and public education? -
Blue - The guy in Game of Thrones was John Hurt - he was the older doctor in the special. Tom Baker was the old white haired guy at the end - the curator. After the Dr Who special, they showed another special called An Adventure in Space and Time set in the 1960's which was about the BBC and the creation of Dr Who - it was a dramatisation - that was really good too.
-
And why on earth do they think handing 30 million new customers over to private health insurance is "socialized medicine" or "government-run healthcare?" -
Morning all.
Don't have time to say all I want to say but I agree that we want a just society and everyone in that society has to contribute. It is just as my mother used to say when she had done something kind for someone - 'don't think about paying me back, one day you might be able to help someone else.' Even here we get people complaining that 'their taxes' are helping the no hopers of society. Providing these things as others have said then they are there for anyone who needs it and one day it might be me.
Another beautiful day here so I am off out on an expedition with a friend. She is a minister and has Mondays off so we often take ourselves somewhere nice and enjoy the day. -
oh I can feel the warm sun on my shoulders as we walk . It's chilly here. I imagine your children are feeling it. If they haven't found mountain equipment coop yet tell them to. With good warm clothes and sometimes the right equipment Canada is wonderful too. Kay -
Alyson, something you said ( sort of in a pay it forward way ) sparked a great memory. I was deeply touched by this as a youngster. There was ( and she was truly a Christian lady ) a woman who would make a sandwich for any of the hobo's, or if preferred , men who would occasionally pass through our little town of 200 people. They were always fairly shabby looking but if they knocked on her door ( and they always did as they had ways of marking the house for the next wanderer who might pass by ) she would make them some kind of sandwich.
A couple people who lived around her chided her for this behavior but I recall that she used to say......what if it were Jesus returning and I refused to give him something to eat. I could no longer be the Christian I say I am. It made a VERY deep impression on me as a kid. Things often do then and I'm sure it is one of the things that I carry inside to this day. There is not a person alive who hasn't needed some sort of help at some time or other in their life. Even all of us came here to this site -- BC.Org looking for help and understanding and someone who could perfectly get exactly how we were feeling. So, I say....to those GOP'ers and others who call themselves Christians while acting like heathens...you WILL reap what you SOW and you will have earned it all. We all have choices....enjoy yours.

Everyone take care and stay warm. It's freezing here in New Jersey. -
good morning. 6 degrees in western ma...brrrrrrrrrr...not as windy as yesterday, but still, brrrrr...it's only November....brrrrr.... -
Morning Peeps,
Sunnyflowers ... it's a balmy 20 degrees here ... the high is 30 for today. The next two days we're going to get slammed with that winter storm. Have lots of errands and running around today. Need to get everything done and the last of the shopping for Thanksgiving before the bad storm moves in. It was so cold last night, I had to run the furnace throughout the night so the pipes wouldn't freeze. arghhh.
I better get busy and get going ... hope everyone has a great Monday.
hugs,
Bren
PS ... Blue ... I bet the christening was beautiful. How old is Philip now? -
Bren, the Christening went beautifully, except my camera locked up after a couple photos. Philip is 7 months old and here are the photos taken with my camera. Hopefully, my daughter will send me a few more when she gets around to it.
He turned his head just as I took the photo.
George acting like George!
Wendel checking me out! -
Smiling with you Bren, I had to run the furnace last night too - for the PIPES - not for me. I've got my toasty Vermont Country Store 8 oz. flannel sheets. THESE ARE AMAZING. The heaviest I'd ever found b4 were 6 oz. Can't tell you how delicious it is to have these soft and warm ( did I mention WARM) sheets. I do like winter, don't use the furnace unless temp goes below 60ish, which if outside would just be considered a cool Spring day - wear lotsa woolies ( well, fleece) indoors, and very comfortable. Can't stand it too warm inside, feels stuffy.
Saw the most GORGEOUS pictures of frangiapani ( plumeria) and thought of gg being in Hawaii....I'm gonna try and get an indoor variety, the smell is too delicious to describe, colors amazing too...
Hope you had a lovely day yesterday, Blue. Special. -
"You talking to ME?"
-
From this...........
to this.........
in less than 24 hrs.! -
Smiling with ya Blue. Can't you just feel the silky warmness of that grey tummy
Where are the pics taken? LOVE the fence with the wreath.
Yup, it's coming our way. We're in the "ice" and "rain" line, but I'm expecting snow. YEAH, SNOW!!!!!!!!! -

Cool here today.....whoo-ooh-eeeee. Well, it wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't picked up a pail of water not completely frozen as I thought and proceed to accidentally dump it on my foot. Despite the below freezing temps. I managed to stay out long enough to hit a good spot......then run in to change my shoes and socks. Ah, the joys of winter. All is well.....but will have to go out and buy another water bucket with the little heater so the water stops freezing. Had one.....and neither of us can find it. Don't know if someone moved it or what, or is we just put it in the perfect place to be able to remember. Don't know how many times we did that.....only to discover that the perfect place must not really be..........because when we go back to where we think it is....nothing is there. Oh well.
Jackie -
Just a random pic Sunny! Wendel would eat 24/7 if I let him. I posted a couple of pics on the previous page of the Christening. Check out little George being mischievous! Love that little guy! -
Jackie, I'm staying in my pj's all day today....sore all over. Damn heels! Don't know why I bother wearing them anymore!
