    karkar - it is lidocaine cream, called Emla. It is usually prescribed for those with a port to put on about an hour prior to accessing it so it doesn't hurt. This is a prescription cream that is easy to get - ask your doc for it, and any pharmacy should have it.

    Pbrain - falling apart, I love it! That's how I feel this week. I'm limping because of my knee, I'm wearing a surgical collar because something's trapped in my neck and I can't move my head and my mouth feels like I've swallowed some knives! Reckon I'm falling apart too!!


    I agree with you about getting back to normal after chemo though. Guess I just have to try and be patient......!

    Welcome KarKar--This is a great bunch of women and any questions can be asked and answered here, (not from me) But everyone else.

    BTW Britain has a company called Beerdesk--and on Friday they deliver beer to offices and they're trying to do it everyday. I just thought that was darling. See the knowledge I possess.

    For those of you who have recently finished treatment… it really does take time for your body to recover. Even after a year you will find you hair just starting to get back to normal again. You will get there.

    Forgive me..haven't read today...

    Need many PRAYERS.....my husband was seriously injured at work this morning.....a knife flung out of a tool bag and sliced his left eye open...we have been at Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Inst all day...he is being taken into surgery now...knife cut thru most of his eye but they cannot tell trauma until surgery...they know this will take several surgeries..today is just to save his eye and put his iris back in where it belongs....

    You know that saying "God doesnt give you more than you can handle"....I'm about tapped out....very sad and nervous.Dana

    Ok havent been posting, So now Im done with taxol & only one more Herceptin in cycle left for weekly, then Im doing every 3 weeks! Can anyone tell me exactly when you started hormone therapy? I am on lupron but wanted to start pill too cuz I feel safer! Anyhow did MRI yesterday& got results! It did shrink but I still got several nodes with big tumors yet!  Anyone else have this? My node says 11*6mm was 16*7mm other showed 7*6mm was9*8mm Im getting so nervous! 1st pet scan Monday& Surgeon appt Wed! ! I was hoping for complete responses didnt happen! Anthonr thing MRI shows The air no evidence to chest wall or skin! Please explain?  so upset

    After all this& radiation getting a hysterectomy!! Also done with steroids& Im doing diet pills per doctors consent!!

    ChickaD, I am so sorry. Prayers coming for your DH and you. Hey, Lord, you listening???? Dana wants you to know she's not as good as you must think. Enough sending "stuff" for her to handle! DEAL???? Not quite the prayer you had in mind but it will do for now. I'll be doing real prayers from now on. Just wanted you to take a breath, crack a smile so you can continue to carry on.     Gout law happy for you to finish. I started a rigid ex (auto correct for ARIMIDEX!!!!) LOL about 1 month after my last chemo other than Herceptin. So about the time I started Herceptin every 3 weeks.

    OMG ChickaD. My prayers are with your husband. One thing we know about surgery is even when things look tough eventually everything can turn out OK. Fingers crossed.


    Goutlaw my onc wanted me to start EST 1 month post chemo. My NP told me to wait 5 weeks because it then would be March 1st… easy to remember when to stop in 5 years. She said women that do radiation wait till radiation is done (5 weeks) so it would be the same thing. In your case you might have to wait till the Luprin takes effect. BTW Complete response to neoadjuvant chemo is great but my understanding is most don't get it. Thats why you get surgery. Let us know what the docs say.

    John out of surgery..they were able to save his eye....put iris back where it belongs....but no idea on vision, cornea or retina until later....the surgeon was not too optimistic about John's site...but miracles do happen!  

    They will do ultrasounds tomorrow and other tests. At least I'm breathing now!John is a Glazier and works with glass on big commercial jobs...he is (maybe "was") one of those crazy guys that hangs off of skyscrappers installing huge glass.

    The surgeon said it would take several surgeries and months of healing and being out of work...can't even tell you the stress I am feeling.

    Goutlaw, I starred tamoxifen 3 weeks after chemo.


    I am having a keyhole surgery to remove my dermoid cyst next week. I am a bit nervous now...

    ChickaD Yeah for saving the eye. Next is the eye sight. Remember they don't know for sure till they do surgery and he heals. Here's a story about of one of my friends, also a breast cancer survivor but not on BCO. Right as she was finishing radiation her husband was in a car accident… he was hit but a semi! Brain injury, in a coma! He did come out of the coma but the doctors weren't all that optimistic about how he would function. He did recover! Granted lots of therapy but he did go back to his job and he's normal again.

    ChikaD - Hoping everything turns out well for your husband.


    All - I went for a second opinion from an internationally renowned MO that has done research for many years and treats only breast cancer. He is advising TCH x 6 every three weeks without having the Herceptin weekly in between. He said the herceptin stays in your system long enough. It seems like having Herceptin every week during chemo is the norm. Has anyone else skipped the weekly treatments during chemo? Advice?

    Not sure I'm understanding your question but I had TCH x6 every 3 weeks and so did many others in this forum.


    Surprised to hear that weekly herceptin is the " norm".

    ashla- It just seemed to be what a lot of women were receiving. So you did not receive Herceptin the two weeks in between TCH treatments? I have heard a lot of women have TCH x 6 every 3 weeks, Herceptin every week during chemo, then Herceptin every 3 weeks to finish the year. One MO advised weekly Herceptin during chemo and the other did not. I'm just scared about making the right choice.

    Had it every 3 weeks. The first 6 doses with TC chemo neo adjuvantly. And I and many others had a pathologically complete response (pCR )to treatment.


    This is one of several standard treatments protocols. My nearly 3 cm tumor was gone after the 6 treatments! Then I had 11 more doses of herceptin @ 3week intervals for a total of 17 . Approximately one year of treatments.

    There are many women who did it after surgery. It is a standard protocol. You can look through the forum and at the bottom of their posts to find them. There is also a TCH forum on breast cancer.org
