Great good news Deb. Happy time!

There will be another time for the chicken skin. I do this all the time with chicken thighs. I just could not look at all that fat tonight.

How about mini pies as appetizer. Could make mini shephards or meat pies?? Anything on toast...... for dessert fairy cakes... my kids like these. Its made in a cupcake mold, split in half and you'd add lemon curd and cream in center then cover and more cream on top.

Ribs in oven for tonight. boiled whole potato, broccoli and cheese sauce

Tonight I turned some roasted butternut squash into a soup with homemade curry powder, then lightly sprinkled with lemon juice. I used corn stock so it was on the sweeter side. Acid always helps with that. Warmed up the leftover grilled chicken. Mr. 02143 was also given a roll. Simple meal, but I do love soup during cold evenings.

    Congrats Deb! So exciting!!!

Dh had to work late tonight so the boys had kids food and I sliced up left over roast and made myself a pepper steak sandwich. Wish I had an onion roll though...thats how my Memere used to do them. We leave Saturday for Fl and DS1 came home from school with a stomach ache and a fever. Fingers crossed he does not share it with the rest of us and is better in time to fly!

Hope everyone had a good day.

Deb: Congrats on being an expectant grandma. I got some news along those same lines myself...just waiting for confirmation. This one will be my ninth! Also learned of my cousin's second pregnancy in a cute way. Her little DD had a t shirt on that said "Only Child..Expiring April 2014!" It was on my facebook page.

Laurie: Hope the fever goes away in time for your trip. You never know what to expect with kids.

Get well wishes to all who are feeling ill...the season is here in a big way! People were coughing all over the store yesterday and one cashier tried to get me to believe it wasn't contagious...she must have seen the look of horror on my face when she coughed right on my package:( I'm just trying to wash my hands a lot and take large doses of vitamin C and D-3. It usually works for me.

While I was on an all-day golf trip to Hattisburg, MS, yesterday, DH cooked a pot of lima beans. He used the small white variety and cooked them much the same way that we cook red beans. With onion and garlic and Andouille sausage. They were/are very good. We have leftovers for more meals.

Deb, I hope your good news about being a Grandma will ease some of your sadness and loss.

Congrats Deb and Kaara- nothing like the anticipation of a baby!

DH is working late again. I had left overs for dinner. Yuck- I hate left overs. DS1 woke up vomiting last night- in our bed. Yay. He is still running a fever and we spent the day in bed. I have gotten nothing done for this trip. I am thankful my in laws took DS2 for the day. He was off the wall and that allowed me to give DS1 the attention he wanted/needed. However DS1 took a long sick boy nap today and now is still up as he is not tired.

Feeling frustrated. Instead of doing laundry to get everything clean for the trip I was washing all my bedding, comforter etc. But I suppose things could be worse- so should still be grateful.

OK Laurie, I am trying to think about how things could be worse....

Ah, maybe if DS2 had come home from school with lice so you would have to vacuum and/or wash every piece of fabric in your house. That's my pathetic offering to help you feel relieved.....and I can hear your gratefulness from all the way across the border. ;)

Seriously, I hope DS1 rallies tomorrow and that you can have at least one day to pack. Soon you will be basking in the sun!

Tonight DH grilled boneless teriyaki chicken thighs. We had a big garden salad, brussells sprouts, and red rice with the chicken. Recently, DH and I have been avoiding bread consumption at dinner....a real favorite bad habit of ours. So....Mr. Lacey is not even given a roll these days. ;) He might want to eat at your house, Susan!

This is being typed on my phone, so it'll be short.

Congratulations on the grand-babies.  I very much hope I get to wait another decade...DD is 15-1/2.... :-)

Laurie...sorry to hear about your sick boy. Unscheduled bed cleanings are no fun.

DD and I are baking a strawberry cake.  It's an odd size/thickness, so we're having to closely watch it and test it.  It's for her school tomorrow.

DS1 did not go to school again today, he is still having belly issues. But he had to come to work with me for a bit. Thank goodness for the kindle and a heating pad. I have myself and the boys 90% packed. I just need to deal with errands tomorrow and the carry on etc. I like camping better!

Dinner tonight is shake and bake pork chops hoping since it is DS1's favorite he may eat something.

Laurie - I love shake and bake. I bought the new Pretzel Crunch but resisted the Panko. One at a time. One good thought about Florida at least if you forget something there is most likely somewhere close to buy it, not so much when camping. LOL. Have a wonderful trip. Hope DS#1 is feeling better.

Don't have a clue what is for dinner tonight. Maybe the Kodiak flapjacks. Anyone use a good syrup they can recommend? I have been to every store - Tom Thumb, Central Market, Krogers, Sprouts looking for something enticing. DH is not a maple syrup fan and I could not afford much. I save what I buy in the refrig. for cooking. We eat French toast frequently. I made a whole loaf of day old French bread into it a while back and froze it; think he's eaten most of it. I'm using Log Cabin high fructose free at present. Amazon has 22 pages, maybe some surfing coming up. DH is always ordering something and asking if I have something I need.

Laurie, When traveling to a first world country, you can always buy anything you forgot! So sorry that sonNoOne is still not feeling well. Maybe he will perk up tomorrow just to make your life easier.

Luv, I live in New England, syrup is real maple syrup by default. But, if pressed, I might make something syrup-like with raspberries [but that might be even more expensive than Maple Syrup. Frozen blueberries would be good too. Ina Garten seems to make these fruit syrup/compotes all the time. Check her recipes on food network.com

Last night my client kept me forever so I stopped at my Korean market for some thinly sliced bulogi beef and made beef with broccoli with our "house" stir-fry recipe. Only had a head of broccoli [last of the locally grown I fear] so I shredded a bunch of napa cabbage and placed it in the bottom of the serving bowl. When the hot stir fry was poured into that bowl, it wilted perfectly. Another night where 90% of the plate was non-meat. Served with some sticky rice. Tonight there is one ample serving of the beef/broccoli so Mr. 02143 gets that. I also have a cup of butternut squash soup to which I will add some fresh chicken stock, chickpeas, and a bit of spinach. Tonight _I_ get a roll! I have been very, very good.

My soup was a total home run! It was ample [more leftovers], delicious, and filling. There was no reason for that roll, but since I had already thawed and warmed, I fell on my sword and ate it. I do things like this for my family. :-)

Somehow I got unsubscribed from this list AGAIN! I'm starting to get a complex.

It was my lucky day today. I scored veal shanks at Costco, so it's osso buco and risotto on the menu tomorrow. Tonight is baked ravioli and a salad.

Nancy- Both dinners sound wonderful!! My mother was a HUGE fan of osso buco. She would always make it for her New Years dinner. Except the one year she made duck. Yuck- too many bones.

So- I am packed. I will shower tonight as we are leaving before 6am tomorrow. I have all sorts of things for the boys for the plane including tablets for them to play on. Not to mention tons of snacks. I woke up with a fever in the middle of the night last night but am feeling much better now. I brought our dog to our friends house who is watching him for us, he seemed quite happy, both our friend and the dog. As I have let the food run out as much as possible I am thinking pizza for dinner.

Have I mentioned I hate flying???

Ds1 went to school today, yay!
