Nance - would you post the recipe for the 40 garlic clove chicken? I used to make a 40 clove chicken dish years ago, but lost the recipe.

Pat - I usually make my cookies with anise flavoring and vanilla frosting, so the anise isn't too overpowering. Except when I make them for "blue boy" who only likes them all vanilla. I've wanted to make them with lemon flavoring, but could never serve them to my family. According to them, not flavoring them with anise would be sacrilegious ;0)

Lynda, the recipe I use is Ina Garten's. Here's the link:

    Hauntie,

I have made your Italian cookies since you posted the recipe (last?) Christmas! They are delicious! I do some anise flavored and some almond and frost with the white frosting and colored sprinkles. Funny on the different 'taste' to the different colors...lol! I guess it's true that we eat with our eyes, first..lol!

    Nancy,

I have heard of that Chicken before but haven't ever tried it. Does it come out super garlicky or is it a subtle flavor?

    Lacey,

Your auction dinner sounds like it wa awesome!! And my new thing learned today is what buratta is! Sounds yummy!

    Lee,

I liked your story about Michelle! I seem to remember that her first Hawaii trip ended earlier than planned (maybe her Mom?) and that's why they went back again! She sure did have a spirit! Rather than say, 'How can I do that?' her question seemed to be 'How can I NOT?'

I have been suffering from 'coldzilla' since Thursday and don't feel much like eating much less cooking :(

Seaside- I hope you feel better and I hope someone makes you soup:)

Lunch with DS1 at school was very sweet. He was very excited to have us there and it was very funny to watch all of the kids. The food was awful though!! LOL! Yesterday we went to our friends house for a sleep over. This is one of the families that we camp with all summer- God Parents to our boys. As always we had a blast! We are going to Florida for 12 days over Thanksgiving to visit with DH's Mom and family and we have a friend who really wants to watch our dog for us. So we did a trial run last night and had our dog stay with them and it went great! I think our dog might even like it better there than here! They have two girls the same ages as our boys and they are all in love with our dog Eli. So yay!

I have no idea what dinner will be tonight, I need to hit the grocery store tomorrow. I can't put it off any longer!

Also, I too got a card from Michelle. So sweet and so sad.

Seaside, I don't think it's super garlicky, but I admit, I'm a garlic lover. I think it's pretty mellow, you definitely know it's garlic but it's not overpowering by any means. It smells divine! I'm sure it would kill coldzilla ;-)

    Nancy,

If it kills off coldzilla, I'm in!!!

Haven't been sick for real in 4 years but this one has just taken me out! DS kicked it off the weekend before this and wound up with a monster ear infection! Been lucky thus far in that, knock wood, for me it's just been the usual sneezing, coughing, aches and pains but not walk-in worthy yet! Now hoping this crap ends with me and DH or visiting DD don't get it!

Christine- Love the Pictures of your beautiful mom and family, she always looked so happy.

Seaside- I also am very sick too, one of the worst flu's I have had, it just knocked me on my butt. We are twins ya know ha ha! About the only thing I can eat and that is pushing it is top romin with some craclers. Yesterday was my dads birthday and I knew it was going to be a really rough day but I was too sick to even cry, all I did was sleep. so I guess that's a good thing, Hope you get better soon.

Kay- Glad you got in your new place, I saw some of the pictures on FB it looks really cute. Are you still doing the eye shots? I hope you are done with them.

Kay, there was something I was going to say to you but forgot ha! so I will just say hi to you and everyone else I missed.

hi Debbie sorry your are not feeling well. Seaside sorry about you too. It that time of year. I always used to get sick at Christmas time. My daughter always managed to get sick on Halloween trick or treat day. No matter the date! And I mean sick like 102 for a fever. That happened about 5 years in a row. One year she begged to go and came back after only 20 min. Poor kid. But then at about 10 she didn't do that anymore. Weird!

Dinner was leftover crab. We went to Red Lobster when my daughter went to pick up her wedding dress which is now too big. She will wait and see if she loses more before getting fitted. Wedding is in May. So a bit of time. But we got the crab feast. It had like almost a whole crab or rather 2 halves, scallops, and shrimp in butter garlic sauce. Well I ate the six shrimp and all the bay scallops and a salad and half the crab. Yum. But I had potatoes and the other half to eat today. Still pretty good. And of course the time it takes to peel and find all the crab that's hiding makes you feel full! LOL.

    Debbie,

Yep we are twins (triplets, cuz Lacey's a fellow June 12th girl, too)! I'm not normally one to complain when sick but.... geez... This one is knocking me for a loop! The simplest things are making me feel so much worse and leaving me just exhausted.

Your Dad's birthday this year I'm sure was really rough. Sorry that you are feeling so sick on top of it! Hope you feel better soon, too.

    Hugs...

laurie - I am in Tampa, so a straight shot north of you up I-75, about 150 miles. I have lived here since '06 and have never been to Naples. I will be around except for Dec. 9-11 (I have to go to Washington, D.C. for a vaccine booster) so maybe I should put the top down (on the car, lol!) and take a road trip to come see you!

I'm sorry to hear that everyone has been sick. DD was down Monday through Thursday of last week with the "feel bad", cough, nausea and slight fever crud. She's still coughing a bit, but is much better. Once she started to get over "it", she rapidly got better. I hope everyone else gets over it as quickly.

Last night I made a double batch of the chicken-rice salad that DD likes ...Sharon and I each had a small serving for supper and that was it. Sharon went to get some for today's lunch and it was gone. When Sharon asked about it, before I even had a chance to say "not me", DD giggled. :-) I'm kind of amused by it all as the left overs completely filled 2 one gallon sized food storage containers.

The Jasmine rice bag has a mint/rice/beef recipe that sounds vaguely Thai like. I may try that tomorrow. The other thing I might do is some English muffins. I haven't baked anything in a couple of weeks.

Today was more manual transmission practice driving for DD.. She's getting better--she still stalls the car sometimes, but she's not giving me whiplash anymore.

Seaside- That's right we are triplets not twins, Sorry lacy, I knew that it just slipped my mind. My DH got a flu shot and he had a bit of a reaction to it, he got a little sick, and his arm swelled up like a baseball it was real sore and red, then I got sick right after that, So I told him I got the flu from him getting a reaction to the flu shot, he isn't buying it and not happy with me blaming him. Oh well!

Moon- Your dinner sounds really good, I love lobster and crab. Funny but same thing has happened with us too, when we lived in Kentucky every year for about 4 years we would get free expensive tickets to the Kentucky downs and every year ( In May) we both would get sick just 2 days before we were suppose to leave, never did get to go before we moved.

Eric-That is a lot of food for your DD to eat, maybe she is feeding some one else and hasn't told you yet? Ha ha that's funny.

Awww so sorry that everyone is sick! Hope everyone gets better before the Holiday.

Laurie Florida for turkey day sounds great....warmer. We tried to talk the kids into NC for Thanksgiving, but they bulked and wanted to be with family. We are heading there this Thursday to close on the house and hopefully spend some time there figuring out what we have to do to get it in move in condition. Need to explore the area and find the best places to get flooring, paint, furniture etc... Maybe we can get the kids there for Christmas....my son is up for whatever, but my daughter is being a stinker.

Last night was chicken piccata, roasted acorn squash and smashed potatoes.

Carrie, congrats on your new home! There will be other thanksgivings to celebrate there. I think you will enjoy one last one in your old setting.

Lacey, congrats on 40 years! That is something to celebrate.

Sorry to hear about everyone who is feeling under the weather. I think you're right, unfortunately it is that time of year.

Two years ago today I finished radiation. Reminds me of Michelle as she was doing it around the same time as me. It is nice to hear about the Christmas cards. You're right, it is like her. Thanks for the pictures Christine. It is so nice of you to share them.

Haven't done very much cooking. Made a chicken chili in the crock pot before work last week and some fish tacos this weekend. DH is making chicken tiki masala tonight and it smells good! Will check in again later. Happy cooking everyone.

Ditto on the well wishes for all the sick ones.

Tonight we had goulash. Last minute option since were we busy grinding up venison that hubby got over the weekend. (Stocking the freezer for winter.) 🍴

Found out Friday that my precious fur baby has cancer. I'm heartbroken. She's 11 years old and although she's not suffering at this point, I know what's coming. I was afraid and very concerned about her when I got my stage IV dx. She's very attached to me and I knew she wouldn't understand when the time came and I would be gone from her. Now it looks like I'll be here for her when her time draws near. I thank The Lord for that much. Vet says we're looking at maybe six months. Prayers needed here.

Oh Joysley, you certainly have my prayers!

We lost our beloved Akita to osteosarcoma the year following my diagnosis/treatment and were devastated. She was my girl and was with me through some pretty rough patches.

We took her home after receiving the news that she didn't have long and were able to enjoy 3 weeks with her before it was 'time'. Hardest decision we've ever had to make. She was just shy of her 9th birthday and I still miss her everyday.

A friend gave us a framed picture of her with the following quote...

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.

    -- Roger Caras"

Thinking of you during this difficult time.

Joysley, sending you hugs and strength to face these next months. Our little mini schnauzer left us two months after I finished rads.....so hard for our family, too, but we do have the sweetest memories of that little gal who is awaiting us at Rainbow Bridge. If you want a really good cry, google that term and read the poem.

A really strange dinner for me tonight.....brie on cucumber slices...after doing some late hour grocery shopping that needed to be done. I think the cuke was to make up for all the fat in the brie. Probably a poor choice, but couldn't keep it in the fridge any longer. Lucky DH had a chicken wrap at his business meeting. I should have had him bring me one! Hmmmmm....maybe some popcorn now.

Earlier today I made some olive oil mini cakes with meyer lemon and thyme. Interesting, but I'm not totally sold on them. But let's remember, I am a challenged baker. ;)

Joyce, thank you so much for the update on Rick. Tell him that he has a big group of Michelle's friends on this thread who wish him the very best. He sounds like a great guy.

Now for a whiny complaint. My jeans are tight! I MUST lose some weight. Especially with the holidays so close.

Tonight I ate a small bowl of split pea soup that I cooked this morning. And some steamed yellow squash and broccoli. I did melt a little butter in a skillet and did a quick sauté of the veggies to add some flavor.

Thank you Joyce, Carole is right, he sounds like a wonderful guy and we wish him the best. And you too, what a good friend you were to Michelle and now Rick.

We've been eating badly lately so last night we had a salad of chopped apples, pears, dried cranberries, toasted pecans, a small amount of bacon, feta cheese and a grilled chicken breast on a bed of romaine. I made a vinaigrette with cider vinegar,  shallots and olive oil. Very satisfying and very much a meal. I'm learning toward red beans and rice for tonight.

I'm off to a much needed trip to the gym. Carole, I feel your pain!

Debbie, my sister, Hope you feel better soon!! This respiratory crap that's going around is pretty bad on it's own so sorry that pneumonia had to rear it's ugly head... Poor Debbie! Times have been so rough for her. Sending you hugs Debbie.

Special K- I would love to try to get together when I am in Florida. I will be there for 12 days...staying with my in laws- oy!

Last night was pot roast as we had soccer and I needed a slow cooker meal to make dinner time work. Tonight will be chicken Parmesan. I am fighting being sick at the moment. At least vitamins seem to be holding it back just enough. Also, at least I am the only one not feeling well. I napped today while DS2 was in pre school. Just me and my kitty- it felt great to crawl back into bed!

Carol- Add me to the list of growing waist lines...I need to start doing sit ups.
