stage 1A breast cancer
I was just diagnosed October 17, 2013. October 30 had lumpectomy. Today is November 7, 2013 going to first doctor appointment post op, to discuss the path report and further treatment. I feel very, very lucky that this was caught so early. I am little overwhelmed but holding up well. I appreciate all and any advice, comments ect....

msmaples, Welcome! How did your appointment go?
Stage IA is very early stage, but treatment can vary a lot, depending on the exact pathology of the cancer. The most important factors are the margins size (to determine if you are done with surgery or if a re-excision is necessary), and then ER/PR and HER2 status, the grade of the cancer and the size of the area of cancer.
After a lumpectomy, usually radiation will be recommended. The rest of the treatment plan depends on those pathology factors, and possibly on the Oncotype score, which is a further test that can be done on the tissue sample.
What did the pathology report tell you? -
Everything came back negative. grade 2. I will see the radiation oncologist next week as well as the cancer doctor.

Hello msmaples,
I consider myself very lucky too!!!
I got my pathology results on 7 November and it was good news. We are lucky aren't we!!!
My first appointment with the oncologist was on Wednesday and she discussed my proposed radiotherapy treatment.
Radiotherapy is planned for three weeks using Deep Breath Hold technique. I am so happy I have been referred by my oncologist to have this relatively new technique which reduces the risk to heart and lungs. My BC was in the left breast so anything I can do to reduce the effects of radiation that could potentially affect my heart I am more than willing to try.
My local hospital only started using the Deep Breath Hold Technique last year.
I am now waiting my first appointment with the radiotherapy oncologist when I will have a CT scan and they will discuss the treatment.
Hopefully all my treatment will be completed before Christmas so that I can start the New Year with all my cancer treatments behind me.
Wishing you all the very best with your treatment.
Peace and Positivity,
M xxx -
I am stage 1 a as well, T1
I did radical mastectomy, No chemo, No Radiation.
I am 5 Years cancer free. and I am 70 years old.
Doctor told me that survival rate on the first year is 95 % and after 5 years is 86 % -
I am stage 1 grade 1
I did a radical mastectomy, no chemo and no radiation
My MO did ordered an ONCOTYPE DX test to find out what my chances were for cancer coming back because I was refusing Chemo. Received results to only 5 percent chance in a period of 5 years.
My MO put me on arimidex 1 mg and started meds on 12/01/13.
I am not happy taking the arimidex because of the side effects but I chose this over chemo.
I am blessed that this cancer was caught on time. But the experience has not been a pleasant one. Still I am blessed because no Chemo
