IllinoisLady - That last picture is infuriating. What was unforgivable IMHO, was the Tea Party shutdown. The fact that cancer patients couldn't get treatment in their clinical trials made me livid. I have a feeling they'll do this again, though. Ugh. I've gotten into it with former classmates of the Conservative persuasion. I went to private "Christian" high school. I told them exactly what they needed to hear - that many Atheists I know have more compassion than them. It's sad they call themselves "Christians."
That said, I'm glad Obama stared these f'ers down.

GGG --- I think many of those people are CINO's. They put on a great show and think their Sunday sincerity will allow them to do what they want up to and including judging right and wrong. They are heartless brutal people who will let old folks die, people go without needed treatments and let little kids go hungry. I don't believe in a hot, fiery place, but in the end I think they will fare no better than if there really were.

Good Morning Friends!
Just have to take a minute to bitch about the weather first thing this morning. It's only 22 degrees out and everything is covered in white frost. My fingers feel like little ice cubes! My dogs are loving this ... no wonder, Maggie has a thick fur coat and Tank is covered like a seal.
Glad it's Saturday, as I think Tim will be home later today.
I need more coffee! Hope everyone has a great weekend.
hugs,
Bren

What gorgeous brutes....I'll take two of each please. I have a couple of thick-coated dogs here. Black Lab Retriever named Bill, is double coated, along with Baby Boss, my Pomeranian. He is a real hoot....all 10 lbs. of him. After a snow ( which he adores ) he runs out, gets his snoot down and makes like a snow plow. Thinking at first he would freeze, I invested in heavy sweaters which he does not need. He is definitely in his element outside in the frigid, snowy weather.
I checked up on it, and find the Poms are descended from Chows which are sled dogs. No wonder he can be out for long periods and never seem to be fazed much.
On a different note and I'm just spouting now and nothing concrete. I read a headline that the heading described as Republicans working to distance themselves from the T. Party. No surprise there. It is the only chance they have to be viable in any way.
Lots of odds and ends to do today, so will have to come back later. Hoping I will be able to produce a link for the info I just shared.

Sorry it's late....just found it. -
This is how easy it is to make mincemeat of a Republican if a reporter doesn't just ignore the non-answer. Surprised it was CNN, but thank you!
http://www.viralnewschart.com/ShowLink.aspx?linkId=17231755
CNN's Carol Costello tried and tried to get Rep. Marsha Blackburn to tell her how the Obamacare website "specifically" violated medical privacy laws, since her network couldn't find any violations. It did not go well. A sample of Costello's questions: "So what specifically were you referring to on the website that violates, that could possibly violate HIPAA?" "Specifically what medical information does the website ask for? And specifically what private information that the government doesn't already have does the website ask for?" "What specifically does the website ask that I might be afraid might be shared with whomever? Specifically what information?" A typical Blackburn answer: "What we want to make certain is the individual has a right to privacy." (via Think Progress)...Read more -
Kam, that likely could be a glitch as they have been happening. Hope that is it. I guess I fibbed. Didn't look at the clock right and didn't have to leave just then, but soon......
Jackie -
I was banned...not sure why. Accidentally? I didn't get that message until after I posted above. Hopefully just a glitch. -
Yes it was a glitch, and we apologise... Sorry Kam! You're not banned now.
The Mods -
I have some good news ... I finally got some work in for October. I haven't had any work for the past three weeks and was starting to panic.
The temp has climbed into the upper 30's now ... not looking forward to bundling up and walking the dogs.
Kam ... Geez glad it was just a glitch!
Jackie ... I had a black flat coated retriever that I dearly loved. His name was Bobo. He was huge, about 100 lbs, but he was my favorite. Sometimes when I call for Tank, I still call Bobo's name.
hugs,
Bren
This is Bobo just before he died three years ago. -
How old was BoBo? He looks so venerable in your picture.
-
Adding to Bren's weather news:) Had to scrape ice off car windows Thursday am. Flannel sheets now on bed, east is going to be way below normal for a few days. Hope anyone in the UK is ok, brutally strong winds and rain there now. News says it's the worst since the 1987 storms.
Not liking the way Daylight Saving Time "extension" is making it so dark in the morning...wonder why the dates were changed? -
Notself .. Bobo was 11 when he died. He was in a great deal of pain at the end ... but it still broke my heart when I had to let him go.
Sunny .. We had a hard frost here this morning too. Everything was white ... looked like it had snowed for a minute. I don't know why DST was moved back to November. I prefer it stay lighter in the afternoon as I'm not much of an early morning person anymore. For years and years I had to get up at 4:30 a.m. to get to work on time. Not anymore!!!
hugs,
Bren -
was I supposed to change clocks? Missed that one. -
Chickadee,
Not until next Saturday night. -
Kam, as to the CNN interview. The reporter would have gotten more answers out of a rock, I think. There is a Republican in need of replacement. If you are going to be a spokesperson you shouldn't be too tired, or stupid to familiarize yourself with cold hard facts. Ditto for Democrats.
Here is the link I made reference too earlier. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/10/26/tea-party-politics-gop-center/ Interesting reading.

Bobo....a beautiful specimen of love.
Warming to the 60's today. In time for the local Halloween parade. May have mentioned for such a small town they do it up big here. Parade usually lasts about or over three hours and there are 117 entries this yr. People think of us as "in the sticks" here where we are, but in a small amt. of time --- not much more than an hour or so in several directions we can be in pretty well known cities.....in Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee.
Several things are done here.....like the Halloween parade, and the park that is decorated for Christmas with many, many movable displays and beautiful lights all over. No charge to drive through. It is a small town, but a proud one. We will go tonight......people take their chairs in the early morning and place them along the parade route and at 7 p.m. tonight we will go to our chairs ( spending all day up-town without us ) and watch what always turns out to be a fantastic way to spend three hours enjoying what a treasure a small town can be.

So seized with it that they shut down the government, and made life worse. Cost a bunch of money that now has to be recovered some way. War on other soil wasn't good enough. They had to do huge damage right at home. What total SHAME --- and they don't get it or feel it......YET !!!!
-
Another one bites the dust --- hope it does it all over.
-
Fresh fish for dinner tonight!!! We have a new market really close to home, but unfortunately they don't have many stalls BUT my fresh fish guy is there, so I'm stocked up - yumm!!
My brother (lives near Seattle) visited yesterday, so I got him to explain Obamacare - I think I understood. The big gap in all of this is where people can't afford health care - you should have a system like ours or Canada, where everyone is looked after ie free public hospitals. If people can afford private health care, let them buy it like we do. -

Jackie - adorable puppy - looks cute sitting on armrest.
Sorry to confuse chickadee, I was asking WHY the time of Daylight Savings Time had changed - so we don't set clocks back until next saturday. remembering we used to switch back early in October, and I LIKE it light when I wake up in the morning...but then, also appreciate it being lighter LATER in the day...anyhow, I was just wondering why the change in when we reset clocks.
Also, why bother at all?????? When USA went on DST, it supposedly was to give farmers a longer day...why change now??? -
Cute puppy Jackie!!
I was ok with Daylight Savings Time when the season for it was shorter. The dark mornings in fall were hell when I was working. Now that I'm retired and not on someone else's schedule, I can tolerate these dark mornings. When I was working, it was so difficult to get to work early (I had flexible hours).
Ms Boo is hanging in there though she seems to be developing herpes (a la steroids). The Vet is suppose to call me back with a dosage for the famcyclovir I have for my other cat (who is twice the size of my Ms Boo). I really thought the end was near today, but I got back from a long walk and she was acting really well and ate quite a bit (steroid-induced). I'm on a roller coaster with her, that is for sure. I keep thinking I'm cried out, but then I go thru the decisions I'm going to have to make soon...
Life has been full of 75 degree days here and while we have sunshine all next week in the forecast, the highs will drop about 20 degrees and the lows into the 20's. Still no rain or snow in the foreseeable future which makes me and my Ms Boo happy. -

In the interview, which aired Wednesday night, Yelton tells Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi that the new voting law, which mandates voter identifications, the curtailing of early voting operations and does not allow college students to vote using their school ID, “is going to kick the Democrats in the butt.” He also dismisses concerns that the law will particularly affect communities of color by saying, “If it hurts a bunch of lazy Blacks that want the government to give them everything, so be it.”
Can we just stipulate that Voter ID laws are about not letting Democrats vote rather than voter fraud? Ok - yes, rhetorical question. -
I saw that interview. But he's not a racist. (: I read somewhere that he resigned after it aired. -
I watched it 3 times, thinking it would be really funny,if it weren't truly and sincerely disgusting. He used the one word that is the crux of the whole sick attitude of the TPers. --------kad2kar
Hugs and Love for a Peaceful week to all of you -
Kam,
Buy some lysine from the health food store. Sprinkle one capsule over food per day. My cat had shingles in her eyes and this is what her vet recommended. It worked for her and she liked the taste.
Birds get a virus called avian pox which kills them if untreated. I used to sprinkle lysine on their seed and it helped them fight the infection.
-
Pip, I saw that interview more than once as well. I think the Daily Show does end up getting some to " tell the truth " without really understanding how truly transparent they will be afterwards. Yes, he did resign though I'm thinking it probably came as a really STRONG suggestion from someone who wanted to soften the fallout.
