My sister and her husband are among those who really believe that Pres Obama will become a dictator and will not leave the White House when his term is up. I asked them what they thought about the govt shut down and they said that they hope it is over by the time they return from their cruise.

    Yikes!

Whether it happens or not the idea is fantastic and helps to point out just who ( or is it whom ) is at fault:

Government Shutdown Restaurant “Specials” Have Lawmakers Paying Double

AUTHOR: SHANNON BARBER OCTOBER 4, 2013 10:26 AM

Lawmakers Pay Double At Restaurants During Government Shutdown

Restaurants in the D.C. area sending a very clear message about the government shutdown by running “shutdown specials” in which members of Congress pay double.

Get out those credit cards, D.C. lawmakers. It seems that you finally went too far for some restaurant owners with your shenanigans with this government shutdown. So far, in fact, that some of them have decided to not only furloughed government workers a break, but to also charge your petty asses double.

That’s right folks. There are actually restaurants who are running shutdown specials, which are designed to give a break to government employees who are furloughed during the shutdown, and, in at least one case, to punish lawmakers for letting this happen in the first place. One restaurant that is participating in the sending of messages via pricing during the shutdown is the Daily Dish in Silver Spring, MD. The restaurant boasts a sign out front that says that government employees get free coffee, while “members of Congress pay double.” Another restaurant, Washington, D.C.’s Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe, tweeted that it is offering happy hour to all customers except members of Congress, who, once again, pay double.

Government shutdown for thee, not for me

One of the most galling aspects of the government shutdown is that Congress is still getting paid. Thus far, it does not appear that Congress people have been hit with these double prices. Daily Dish co- owner Zena Polin told the Huffington Post that she hasn’t had any lawmakers in her restaurant, and admits that the idea was “a little tongue in cheek.”

Well, Ms. Polin, tongue in cheek or not, it is brilliant. Further, I hope that if you or any of the other restaurants that are participating in these shutdown specials happens to get a member of Congress in your place of business that you follow through and charge them double. Especially Republicans. After all, anyone with a brain knows that this shutdown business is their fault for being unreasonable and demanding a law they don’t have the votes to repeal be repealed any way. We are paying for the foolishness of our elected officials. Thanks for figuring out a way for them to pay, too.

Sorry for all the marks....had a suspicion they would get in...........probably happen this time too:

Why the Tea Partiers Think They'll Win

    PAUL WALDMAN

    SEPTEMBER 30, 2013

The key is their enduring faith that conservatism can never fail, it can only be failed.

    image

Way back in the days when bloggers carved their missives out on stone tablets (by which I mean 2005), Digby noted, in response to the nascent trend of conservatives deciding that George W. Bush wasn't a conservative after all, wrote, "Get used to hearing about how the Republicans failed because they weren't true conservatives. Conservatism can never fail. It can only be failed by weak-minded souls who refuse to properly follow its tenets." We've seen that a lot in the years since—the interpretation of every election Republicans lose is that they weren't conservative enough, and if they had just nominated a true believer or run farther to right, victory would have been theirs.

There's already a tactical division within the Republican Party about the wisdom of shutting down the government in an attempt to kill the Affordable Care Act. The members who have been around a while understand that no matter what happens, Barack Obama is not going to bend on this one. He won't dismantle his greatest domestic policy accomplishment, and he won't delay it for a year. He just won't. The members who are newer, particularly Tea Partiers who got elected in 2010 and 2012, think that if they just hold fast, eventually Obama will buckle.

And there's another difference between the two groups. That first group of older members were around for the shutdowns during the Clinton years, and remember how badly things turned out for them. Here's an excerpt from an NPR story aired this morning:

"It was a calculated gamble on the part of the speaker, Newt Gingrich," says Steve Bell, who was a Republican congressional aide. The new Republican majority in Congress decided to push their spending fight with President Clinton to the limit, even if it meant shutting down the government.

"And at first, about half of us thought it was a bad idea and half of us thought it was a good idea," says Bell. "But in the perfect example of groupthink, we talked ourselves into believing that, oh, the president will get blamed and we will be able to get our way."

Bell, who's now with the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, says the Gingrich gamble didn't pay off, except for President Clinton.

"The president wasn't blamed," says Bell. And "the amount of money we saved over that government shutdown literally is almost a rounding error. So we went through all of this for almost no savings, net-net, and we successfully re-elected someone that we thought we were supposed to defeat."

    image

All the reporting I've seen says that is the perspective shared by John Boehner and others in the GOP leadership. The problem is that Tea Partiers in the House don't see it that way. They believe the shutdown will be blamed on President Obama, and the only possible way for Republicans to lose is if they give in too soon.

That's because the idea that conservatism can never fail, it can only be failed, extends beyond ideology to its tactical extension, eternal and maximal opposition to Barack Obama and everything he wants to do. Fighting Obama is a strategy that can never fail. If failure happens, it can only be because we didn't fight him hard enough.

Once this is all over, they'll be telling everyone the same old story. If only the party had been stronger, if only Boehner had stood firm, if only we had kept the government closed for another week or another month, everyone would have seen we were right, Obama would have been crippled for the remainder of his term, we would have won a smashing victory in the 2014 mid-term elections, and the blow that led to Obamacare's inevitable death would have been struck. But we were betrayed by Boehner and the other cowards and quislings.

I wouldn't even be surprised if come 2015, where you stood on the shutdown becomes a key litmus test Tea Party activists apply to GOP presidential contenders.

Illinois Lady - I have to believe that Paul Ryan misspoke on that one. I don't think it's a Freudian slip or anything of that nature.

Sorry that you had a post removed. NO IDEA what that was about!

Wow....sorry for all the goings on here. I take full responsibility. I posted something up above that the mods were kind enough to delete for me. I tried to c and p it......and just as I hit the button ( you get so used to seeing things some time you don't ) I noticed that my tool bar had completely changed ---it still looks wonky and I may have to see it it works as it always did or not in a bit.

In any case....after I hit the button, the biggest mess I ever saw.....taking up one and a half posting boxes popped in on the screen. It would not delete for me...no matter what I did. I immediately contacted the mods and they had to do a number of things......one of which was to delete by community. I caused them much work and have apologized for it while being happy to be back. Hopefully I can restore my tool bar here.....or learn how to use what is here now.

thanks not self. I was traveling yesterday and missed the little Hypocrite of the day story.

I sorta heard the Ron Paul /Mitch McConnel convo, but with a lot of car background noise, so need to see the video and listen again.

Always fun to see them get caught off script or get caught writing their script.

Somewhat related..I'm so infuriated with those that get Medicaid and then call Obamacare socialism!! My blood is boiling on that one.

DH is as upset as I am, maybe even more, with the Republicans. But there has been a bit of levity too - he's getting the giggles over how many times I've used the word "idjuts" lately. So I guess I owe Blue a thank you for giving us something to giggle over.

I am having problems with google.com though. Anyone else? My tool bar is only vaguely there, and shoved to the right.

I'm on a Mac using Safari and just typing in a comment is fine but the tool bar looks very wonky, no color just grey tones, and is missing stuff. But it isn't shoved to the right. Edited to add that it's like that in other threads too.
