Susan I'm going to be thinking positive thoughts about you tomorrow. These biopsies are living nightmares. Even if they didn't hurt and mine always do, the mental anguish is so hard. I am so happy you have a friend coming along. Please celebrate with a big post biopsy lunch, no exercise required beyond smiling with joy and peace.

Mara oh dear everything is on a pretzel bread or pretzel bun here lately in the states. I do like them but we have gotten carried away.
Ronda sorry about the disagreement between doctors. For me that is so stressful because I feel everything I do could be a misstep. Had a similar situation with radiation and hope to god the doc I went with is correct but of course I'll never really know.
Special K I'm glad the eye was just a watch and I'm sure the MOHs surgery will go fine. Maybe they can give you a massage in between layers. Yah probably not.
Grit girl I hope your biopsy is uneventful. It really honestly was quite easy and very fast. Nothing at all like a breast biopsy. -

biopsy done. that one was hard because there was some pretty heavy emotional baggage that went with it.
my friend mary rose sat with me until i went in and then we went out for a killer lunch, then off to a tattoo/piercing studio to have my nose stud changed. the nurse kept asking me if i was ok (the a-hole anesthesiologist put me under a general, although i asked him not to do that). i kept telling the nurse i was ok, in spite of my wobbliness. i was damned if i was going to have my entire day be about the stupid biopsy. so i wobbled down to the restaurant 3 blocks down, had a wonderful meal and a chocolate cake and home made strawberry ice cream. and then my friend mary rose and i cabbed it over to the piercing studio.
cancer be damned. i'm living, cabs, wobbling, nose studs and all.

Gritgirl- glad that you had some good friend time and yummy food after that nasty biopsy. You have the right idea with living life!!
Special- I agree you need to stay on here, exercise or not. I mean honestly some of us are not doing much exercise anyway...
I never heard of a pretzel bun before but I am gluten free and they probably don't make GF ones anyway.

I hope you don't have any pain. And sorry about the emotional baggage. Wish it could be "lost," never to resurface.
Do you think you could find out results tomorrow? Or will it take awhile?
I'm still sore from my Tuesday yoga.
Bought my plane ticket tonight to see my husband run his first marathon, the NYC Marathon, in Nov. I get tired just thinking about how much he runs. -

Sorry your hospital visit was traumatic I know the waiting bit is hard but I'm glad you managed a good lunch and chocolate cake.and strawberry ice cream.
Question for you all do you get clotted cream over there( I am in Devon I live near " Doc Martin's village" if anyone watches the programme.)It is great with scones and strawberry jam very Downton Abbey.
Glad your staying Special K. I'm with Ginger we are not exercising much but just keeping going.
Tarheel your new picture is lovely. Enjoy your hubby's marathon.Like you thinking about it makes me tired.

clotted cream? Did somebody say clotted cream? Sooooo bad for you but so mummy. Not generally available in the US, but I've had it at someone's house and at some restaurants.
Oh, that's right. We're here to talk about exercising, not food. I'll stop. -
gritgirl - I think you can get clotted cream at Whole Foods, or at least you used to be able to, but it is not the fresh kind. If you are having a clotted cream emergency it would work in a pinch! -
can Mara fly over and make it for me instead? Mara, don't forget to bring your scone recipe. I have a good, hill-less area for us to walk -
What does clotted cream taste like and what is the consistency? I like all things dairy. Cheese does not agree with my system of late so I have cut back dramatically, and since I need calcium, I have replaced cheese with whipped cream, custards and such.
Thanks for the compliment on the pic gritgirl. I learned a new iPhone trick from my son: you set the phone to video, then shoot 15 seconds or so of yourself. You can use any of those frames as a photo. That gives me lots of shots to pick from so it's easy to find a decent one. I so rarely get dolled up, that when I do, I take a pic or ask someone to take one of me. It helps me to look at them later to remind myself that I don't always look sick. Does anybody else do that, or I am the only crazy one?
Someone start a food discussion topic so we can go there and chat about food. I'm worried we may discourage lurkers from participating by not talking about exercise. Hmmm, This is a "gentle exercise" topic. What should the food topic be? "Vigorous Eating"? -

Gritgirl I would love to fly over with a Devon cream tea. I was in New York a few years ago would love an excuse to come back again. May even attempt a few hills.
I played skittles again and have been on small walks so some exercise. This is my stressful week hospital visits etc so sorry Tar Heel probably more eating than exercising this week.

I went back to work so my exercise went down the toilet. Maybe this weekend I'll get in some.
I don't know what clotted cream is but I know what cream is so I know I'd like it!
Yes great picture Ronda. I have hair envy cause mine is gone. Well I now have a shadow of hair reappearing which at least is reassuring that it will come back. -
twohobbies, that photo is deceiving, all my hair is falling out from my treatment. Yep, I'm just on Tamox but it's causing major hair loss. Big clumps in my comb after I wash it. Not as bad as with Aromasin. I was wearing a wig, I lost so much hair then! My hair loss is only a teeny bit of what you experienced, I just wanted you to know I sympathize. :-) -
Ive been lurking and now I am going to have some strawberries. and dream of clotted cream!
Then Ill wait for my post- coffee bathroom break, and go for a walk. You guys inspire me.

see, this is fun exercise. Skittles, bathroom breaks, making clotted cream. Stop me now. It is almost 90 degrees in DC and it's October. Oy. Saturdays are low effort day for me, although I did take the subway and that means walking. Tomorrow I will be moving furniture. I look at skinny, athletic people, and think, I could be that. Then I go sit down. Today's move to health was looking for a new band for my Fitbit Flex. I like to look good while I measure my walking. :-) -
Ok, so time to jump back in! Have to admit I've been lurking, too ashamed to admit I wasn't making exercise a priority (good excuses we had extremely hot weather and other equally wimpy ones). Here I've been making my recliner my home, I so admire all of you back to a normal life and including exercise too! I seemed more motivated when I had weekly gentle yoga and PT (scheduled same day appt as either the cancer program for yoga-lates or dance therapy so I was forced to get exercise in). Very difficult time getting those PT appts authorized again. Have been wanting to go walking this week, but between the extremely hot winds & weather and having workers in to repair water damage, well, too hot at night to walk.
So, even though workers here earlier (DH home to deal with the crew), I went for an hour walk. All by myself, not waiting to go with DD. Felt great! Could have pushed myself a bit more but didn't want to overdo. Need to keep myself accountable (with help from you all). I miss participating on this thread! -
Way to go Maddy. I must be improving cause I took my dog for.a 15 minute walk and then I mowed my lawn for an hour. I am glad I got it done because it is raining like crazy now. I swear hurricane Karen landed in Chicago.
To celebrate all my exercise I broke my low carb diet and went for Mexican food. At least I didn't have room for dessert.
Between the exercise my body is not used to and the food it's not used to I will probably pay for this tomorrow! -
Hi Girls, I haven't posted for a bit. I've been watching though! I did not have any exercise activity to report...was still battling the knee, etc. But yesterday I walked! Not far, but I did. Unfortunately I am back in the hospital with a neutropenic fever again, still no source. So I am restricted to my room for the most part. But the bed rest has been good for the knee and it was starting to feel better (it had gotten quite cranky a few days after the second chemo again....sounds like there is definitely a correlation!). Anyways, yesterday my counts were up a little bit. I put a mask on and hubby and I went out to walk the halls. We decided to go outside for a little bit, and I walked around the outside of the hospital. Of course the route that I chose went uphill! Hubby wasn't sure I was going to make it.....I am so deconditioned after all this chemo baloney and the knee issues. But I did it, and it felt good. And the knee survived. So now I can start putting walking back in my routine. Sadly, though, my walking buddy is gone. I had to put Rhody to sleep on Thursday night (the day before I ended up back in the hospital). Turns out she had liver failure and it was just going to get worse. So last week was not a good one. This is a new week, I am hoping to go home today and start fresh again! I suppose I should change my Avatar, it just feels disloyal to me.

Hi all, I was looking for something like this forum. I have posted on the daily exercise but I feel like many of the posters are ahead of me. I am about 2 months out from my Dmx and am slowly returning to my previous exercise level. I am up to walking about a mile a day in the mornings, but by the end of the day my stomach and chest are so tight and numb that I can't do any more exercise. I am trying to get more out of my morning routine and i was wondering if anyone uses hand weights while walking. Or if anyone had any recommendations of how I could add exercise to my current routine.
I need to up my exercise levels because I am starting to slip back into my old eating habits, which I could have when I ran 3 miles a day. Thanks. -

Mrtw. I put exercise back into my routine slowly. At first I couldn't even bend over to pick things up, so I would make myself bend over to pick things up. Now I just have walking as part of my daily doings. I walk to the subway stop, I park and walk to the stores in the strip mall, rather than drive store to store. I make several trips up and down the stairs. Spreads the exercise across the day. -
Martha, I'm so sorry to hear of Rhody's passing. No need to change your avatar. It's a tribute to a "fur-ever friend." Rhody will see you when you get there.
I am SHOCKED and IMPRESSED that while in the hospital you went for a walk outside. That's just unbelievable and shows your spirit!! (Applause!!)
Mrtw, gritgirl has good advice, not just in her post to you, but if you look back at her advice to others you will find great tips too. Most of us started posting here because we felt like you did -- frustrated that we couldn't do the least little thing, irritated that our best intentions were not enough to get anything accomplished some days. Here, we celebrate the smallest of victories. Those tiny steps lead to greater strength and endurance. Something, anything, is better than nothing.
Are you taking extra pain medicine before your walk? I recommend it. I haven't had surgery like you but I think a mile in the morning sounds great. Another idea is to walk 1+ miles every other day. This will give your body a day to recover in between. Keep going, the road ahead gets smoother. -

Mrtw, I would go slow with adding hand weights to your walk. You say you are two months from the BMX? It might be a bit soon for the weights, check with your surgeon. Unless you are able to do other strength exercises. If you do add hand weights, be careful that it is not too much if you are at risk for lymphedema. There are lots of great exercises you can do to stretch out your chest wall muscles....they do get very tight. I think our reflex action is to pull the shoulders forward to protect the chest wall, but this shortens the fibers in the pectoral muscles. If you have medical clearance you could try doing some stretches.....I have a DVD that my surgeon gave me, "Strength and Courage; Exercises for Breast Cancer Survivors." You can find it at http://www.strengthandcourage.net/. Did they give you post-op exercises to do? Unfortunately I am still limited on the weight training activities...I have had a number of complications since my initial surgery in June, so I have not gotten many of the strength training exercises in the video. I do a lot of stretching though, which really helps.
