bailey, sbe....that is the way I'm leaning...re: not limited to Diep (after all, I'm not one either), and I have no problem starting that kind of thread...a "flapper veteran's lounge" idea. I get the "relevance" of surgery dates, it meant alot to me around my own initial "time". I thought it important to try to bring awareness to where people were having their surgeries done, also. I will definitely still contribute to discussions on a future thread like that. But I'm feeling more and more like wanting to maintain connections made here, while "moving on" with life in general. There are more and more moments, when I almost feel "disrespectful" to the fresh flappers, when talking about minor tweaks or my adventures of the day, but, still, I want to share those things with my "friends" here.

ok....this has been like "journaling". It has helped me to decide....I (of course) will continue as is, through the rest of 2013, which means, I will gladly ask the mods to add ANY dates, 2014 included. What happens for 2014, re: a "list oriented" thread will be someone else's decision.

I am going to start a new thread today.....(keeping it in the recon forum) and I will name it "Moving On...After the Flap". There will be no list, no dates...it will become whatever it is meant to be.

    Love to you all.

Well, it wasn't a seroma... it was a 5x3x2cm abscess  :(  The bump was a fistula where the gunk was trying to escape - the radiologist showed me the tunnel through my flap!  The doctor said if I'd waited a few more hours it would have been oozing pus. They drained and lavaged it, which much screaming in pain on my part - they got 3/4 of the way through before they offered to admit me and do it under a general, but I said they'd got that far, they might as well finish. Not sure the nurse whose hand I was holding will ever write again!

On Augmentin 1g now, have to have drain and lavage every day until it's better (at the hospital tomorrow then homecare nurse over the weekend then back to the hospital daily). Any sign of infection and I'm back on the table. Positive thoughts for my noob, please!

Eight weeks today... I need a glass of wine before my first Augmentin. That should react nicely with the Tramadol. ;)

On the up side, given the state I was in, all the staff in the unit made the effort to speak English to me, so at least I knew what was going on! You're so right, Nihahi - that does make it hard most of time. They never taught us breast cancer vocab in French class!!!

Lahela, so good to hear from you. We were worried. I'm so, so sorry for what you are going through. You ---and your noob---are in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow lahela......I know I often say there are no awards given out for bravery on this journey.....might have to rethink that now!!!! So glad you stepped up and got it sorted out today, instead of waiting any longer. Keep up the "I want answers/action" mindset....TOWANDA!!!!

Ok ladies...I have started a new thread....it's in the recon forum still. Moving On....After the Flap.

speaking of moving on....time for me to do so too. Have good days!!!!

Lahela hugs, honey...no words....just hugs and prayers. Way to call it.

Nihahi....works for me! If there are 2014 folks who want to start a thread we can chime in there every once in a while to get them started, for sure.

Nihahi, thanks for all you've done for this thread. It has been a blessing to everyone. Next step for me is life, too. Bring it on! Continued healing thoughts & prayers to those beginning this journey or not yet finished with it. Whatever you are going through, remember, "This, too, shall pass."

Nihahi, excellent idea about a different 'Moving on' forum. Will go there, and check it out. Want to join Sharon in thanking you for doing this for so long, and for your caring, compassionate posts to everybody. You are a gift to us!

Lahela, I cringed for your sake, but I'm sooo happy you got help fast. Hang in there, girl! Glad you got them to speak English. Many people in Europe know English, but are just lazy to speak it.

Cherrie, I don't know what to think of this deafness theory. My dad got Alzheimers at 69, but never had a hearing problem. I've been slightly deaf for many years now. To me it seems that it is a random thing, and my thinking is that we should not get hung up on this. We have enough on our plates as it is . . . best wishes to you!

Sun is just peeking through - will grab dog for a walk. See you all later!

Lahela, GLAD your abscess has been shown the light of day and ushered down the drain!  I took Augmentin for a couple of days last week, before I was admitted for vanco and ancef, and I did fine with it.  May have even had a glass of wine to wash it down.  We'll be sending good thoughts toward Switzerland and prayers heavenward for complete resolution of the infection.

I have had tears in my eyes many time while reading posts on this site, mostly because somebody was sad, or suffering.  This time they are bitter sweet tears, because some of you are moving on, and I become attached and like things to remain comfortable, and the same.  Nihani, the "moving on" forum is a great idea.  Sharon, I am so happy for you too.  It's hard to believe how much we learn about each other while we plow through everything.  Everybody has a story, and they are all fasinating. This particular forum is very special.  Who will take care of the list here, etc.? Who will the torch be passed to?

On another note, I met a woman yesterday that found her cancer around the same time as me.  We sat and talked for quite a while.  She had missed her mammo for several years, but something told her to go.  She was diagnosed with stage 4 bc.  She had 16 rounds of chemo.  I didn't think that was humanly possible.  Her hair is about an inch long now, and she looks pretty darn good considering what she has gone through, and her husband is taking her on a cruise.  Her spirit was so bright, and her outlook so positive. Oh, and she is 58 too!!! She has no plans for reconstruction at this time, but we are going to keep in touch.  She feels good right now, and she doesn't want to rock the boat.  But, I do have a question for anybody who has had chemo.  Her only complaint was chemo brain.  Does that ever get better?

Lahela, thank goodness you are going to be okay.  I am really sorry they had to hurt you.  The first time you said, "ouch" they should have stopped and offered to give you some meds.

I know not everyone hates pink...or pinktober...but for those that do, the salon/day spa near my house has this:

Join us "as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month with our Pretty n Pink open house event. Bring yourself, a guest and your bedazzled bra (see below). For every guest we have in attendance for Pretty n Pink,... will donate $$. Donations will assist in sponsoring local Susan G Komen Race for a Cure participants."

Bedazzled bra contest - I mean, REALLY??? I guess we are not aware enough until we have all bedazzled our bras.

Moving on is a good thing.  Nihahi has done a wonderful job with this thread.  I am sure there will be someone who will start a DIEP or Flap thread for 2014 and many who have their surgery in 2013 will continue with this thread as the 2012 girls have continued with theirs.

Momof 5, that is tacky.  My salon does a Pink thing too, but I deleted the email when it came, but I really don't think it had anything to do with bras.

So, being that it is so close to the end of the year, I am assuming any flap procedure that I have will be late this year or January....do I stay here, or jump onto the 2014 thread?

Lahela- Holy cow! Im glad you got in to be seen and so sorry it was painful. I would have opted to be knocked out. I hope everything heals up quickly for you.

Nahahi- I was kinda sad reading what you wrote but I agree with you, it is time to move on. Im still waiting on stage two so I will stick around here still and also join the moving on thread so we can all stay in touch. I think I check in with you ladies more than my DH most days......lol. Thank you for doing such an amazing job keeping us all supported!

Bailey- Sendin all clear vibes your way! :-)

Momof5, stick around here till 2014 gets started, then you can check in both places.  I went back to read the 2012 thread, and hardly anybody checks in there anymore.  Some of come over here, but those women have moved on.  Which is a great thing.

I started here in May, was supposed to have diep in July, didn't happen for various reasons which is too long of a story right now, but I have seen women come in here just for the time they are home recuperating, and then move on.  God bless them!!!  That's what it should be like for everybody, and I hope it is like for you.  You have had enough grief with the implant saga.

I have made it to the other side.

Had to go back in for surgery for a hematoma last night as my breast was getting bigger by the minute.

Today I am sore, hurts like heck to cough when doing the "breathing thingy". No matter how I try to hold the pillow it doesn't seem to help...anyone have any ideas howto ease that pain when coughing? Feels like my insides are coming out.

Goldie, for me chemo brain got better, but Tamoxifen defo causes memory issues for me too. It is not too bad, but some days are worse than others. 16 rounds of chemo must have a huge effect, but as time goes by, she will get better. I am blown away by how many women here were diagnosed with bc in their late fifties -  I was 57, and turned 59 in July. Seems somehow significant to me.

Hi Patty, welcome to Flapperland! Unfortuntely I have no advice re: coughing - ouch! Maybe one of the other veterans will have a tip for you. Best wishes for a speedy, boring recovery!

Patty, after I had my hysterectomy it hurt like hell to cough, or sneeze.  To try to clear my lungs from the anesthesia I started during my deep breathing exercises from Yoga, and that helped me stop coughing so much, if at all.   I am sorry, I know how much it hurts.  I remember when I woke up from my bmx and I started coughing they pressed a pillow against my chest, and I was like, "uh, that isn't helping," but after that I didn't cough anymore.  I don't know why.

Liefie, I think the age thing is very significant.  I would guess that age group is the largest for diagnosis of BC.  My mom, my aunt, my grandma, and me all in our late fifties.  I was a time bomb, no doubt. They keep giving these stats, and poo poo family history as only 10 percent indicator you will get it.  I don't believe that.  BRCA postive, or not I think the incidence is much higher when it runs in families.

I have a friend whose father, and both brother's had prostate cancer. Docs say is a coincidence. I don't think so.  There is something else in play here besides just BRCA and they will figure it out eventually.

Goldie & Momof5 - one of you should start the 2014 thread.  Do it now and let people jump on board.  I bet there are lots of women in a holding pattern and they will need you.  You don't have to do a running list.  It is nice, but can be a maintenance challenge if you are the thread owner and decide to take a break from the list.  You will be great!

When I was not doing the breathing thingy, I kept a Ricola in my mouth so I wouldn't cough. Pat, you could try to keep a cough drop on the side of your mouth in between your cheek and gum when you do it.

Goldie, I think you are right. Coincidence? No way. Interestingly my mom has nine (!!!) sisters, none of whom has any form of cancer, but two of my cousins got bc in their thirties . . . what a puzzle!

Marty, how do you get in touch with the moderator's do the list can be updated?  I love that list.  I refer to it once in a while to get an idea how far somebody is out from their surgery, etc.

Cherrie (I think it was you.)  - here's my recipe for black bean burgers.

    Black Bean Burgers

2 cans black beans drained and rinsed

    1 tsp. garlic powder

    1 tsp. onion powder

    ½ tsp. sea salt

    ¼ tsp. ground pepper

    2 tablespoons flour

Put one can of drained & rinsed black beans in a big bowl and mash with a potato masher or a fork.  Stir in other can of whole beans (drained & rinsed), spices and flour.  Mix until combined.  Make into patties or as my son likes them into slider size!  Fry in a frying pan until browned on both sides and heated through over medium heat – about 3 – 5 minutes a side.

I also have a food blog.  If anyone would like the link, just PM me.  I just finished participating in the Vegan Month of Food (Vegan MoFo).  I'm not vegan (it's more than just eating vegan) but I try to eat as vegan as I can.

ok...guess I didn't make myself clear....I'm still more than willing to keep posting dates (via the mods) until the end of this year, on this thread. That's 3 more months of me checking the thread, responding as often as I can, and replying to the PM's that I receive about the thread. I'm not "leaving" this thread, but will continue to participate in it. I'm way too much of a mother hen and you chicks all need someone to keep an eye on you!!! But, once 2013 comes to an end, I will not be working with the mods to keep updating a 2014 list. Also, if someone does create a 2014 thread, I promise I will stay in touch, likely not quite as frequently...to offer what help/encouragement I can. It meant alot to me when I was a newbie, to hear from those who had gone before, and I intend to keep helping as I can. Threads do not magically appear.....someone has to start one, and if it does have an "evolving list", that someone should realize they need to stick with the thread even if it is no longer of interest to them, or the same issues that happened to this thread, will happen all over again.

The new thread I started, is a way to keep in touch with those of us who want to, (or new ladies), without the ongoing "theme" of flap-land. NOBODY IS LEAVING ANYBODY.....it's more a roll-over in some ways, and a new mindset in other ways.

Nihani, glad you are not going anywhere soon.  I never noticed any issues with this thread.  Did miss something?  Everything seemed to run just fine, and you never seemed to miss posting a surgery date, that I know of.  What's the new thread that you started called?
