I am in westchester....right next to the CT line -
ahhh....I know where that is. Pretty area....are the leaves turning colours yet?
krissy...what the h**k is a cat bath???? -
leaves have not changed colors yet...soon! -
Thanks Lucy. I am going to look into that, or mist.
I always get my flu shot in middle Oct. I have a nurse friend that told me it protects you from the flu, and 66 percent of the cold viruses. I chose to believe her...lol
I really don't feel like getting the pneumonia shot because I always feel like poop for 48 hours after that one, but it's only every 7 years for that one.
Krissy, my shoulder's were a mess after my bmx. Once they give you the okay start your range of motion exercises right away, and you should be okay in a month, or so. I still get stiffness in my right shoulder, but not too bad. Did you have your bmx with immediate recon? That is a little harder to recover from then a delayed recon. Looking back, it's what I would have preferred.
When I talk about my bmx now I know I had pain, but I can't remember it that much anymore. Interestingly enough, I was watching a Dr. Oz last week, and he talked about how our minds and bodies do forget the pain of physical trauma, and he explained why, but I don't remember exactly what he said...ugh. -
soooo......trying to remember things might be causing painful physical trauma to my brain....hence my forgetfulness???? I LIKE IT!!!! -
Lucy...waving to you from New Orleans in my recovery. I will be back in Yorktown Heights next week.
I believe someone had said to do squats to strengthen thigh muscles to be prepared for this surgery. I used to do them on a regular basis...too bad I didn't listen. I am"feeling the burn" when I am using my legs to get up and down from sitting. Back muscles also screaming at me...but in only a matter of days have been screaming less. Bought some arnica muscle rub, will have hubby massage my aching thighs and back....very gently.
Pat -
Pattysmiles....you sound pretty good! Hang in there....things do get easier! -
Patty welcome to the other side! Hug Wilbur tight! Our little knight would make a good Wilbur!
Loved the self talk points, Nihahi....they actually encompass a lot of the points we stressed and work we did with my son when he was gripped by anxiety a couple of years ago. It was a hard struggle, but we're on the winning side of it now. We all learned a lot about the way we talk to ourselves. Number 6 was critical for him. Toward the end of therapy he said to his counselor, "I am not always sure if I am happy and relaxed or if I am just telling myself I am." Counselor wisely said, "What's the difference?" -
wise counsellor!
Currently reliving the "remote held in the grip of a 99% asleep hubby, while a hockey game he has no interest in is blaring away on the tv" scenario....another Saturday night funtime!!!!! -
lol....we live in a parallel universe, Nihahi, although I was interested in the Notre Dame game as my niece plays in the band so I've been watching for her lol!
Ok here is a question (off topic but wth) ....what do you ALWAYS have in your house that you could serve if people dropped by? Mine is chicken fajitas lol! I always have all the ingredients for chicken fajitas. My girlfriend says hers is tequila and margarita mix!!! -
.....think, think, think.....couple different kinds of cheese, grapes or apples, red peppers, wheat thin crackers and the fixin's to make a yummy crab dip. hmmm....perhaps a little snack before melatonin time.....HEY...where did the icon for smiley faces go????
off topic...I played flute, piccolo and glockenspiel in marching bands...what does your niece play? -
Goldie, I get my flu shots in my hip. When I had to give myself lovenox(blood thinner) and neulasta, I did them in my thighs. My mom never let the doctor give us shots in the arms not even the smallpox.
OT--We had Red Flannel Days in Cedar Springs, MI today. It was nice to be outside today. -
my niece plays clarinet. I played saxaphone. Aspinner were you at Red Flannel Day???? Me too!!! I grew up in Cedar Springs...and it was beautiful today! (I have marched in SNOW playing that saxophone on Red Flannel Day!)
Edited to add - Nihahi...your house for hors d'oeuvres....My house for dinner! -
In fact, wearing gloves to give intramuscular injections IS to protect the person giving the injection from exposure to the patient's blood, in case the injections site bleeds a little. On the other hand (hahaha...) you wouldn't want someone with filthy hands giving you an injection, which would be the same thing as wearing a filthy glove.
When I used to give about a million firefighters their flu shots each year, I just used gel hand cleaner between shots, which is consistent with OSHA's recommendations for giving injections. Of course, if anybody leaked a little and I had to put a bandaid them, I washed with soap and water.
Any muscle is fine for a flu shot. If I couldn't use either arm, I would defo ask for my shot in my butt. Probably stings less than the thigh muscle.
Seasonal flu shots are good for the whole flu season. Get your shot now, and you're good until next October. Each season's flu shot combines the three strains of influenza that researchers predict will be that season's "top three." They're not accurate all the time, but usually they guess pretty well. A flu shot won't protect you from a cold; it just doesn't contain that component. Just three mutations of influenza.
The intranasal flu mist can only be given to people between the ages of 2 and 49 years old. The rest of us have to get jabbed.
Flu Shot 101! I used to love traveling from fire station to fire station, saying hello to my guys and giving them their flu shots. For a few years, I dressed up like an old-fashioned nurse, complete with white dress, white stockings and white oxford shoes, and my school's nurse's cap. They LOVED it. -
ahhh.....marching bands....good times! Sister played clarinet, brother played trumpet. We were always in different bands due to being in different grades, hence practicing different music at the same time. Mom taught piano at home....we all had to take lessons from her until old enough to start on instrument of choice. Dad used to take his newspaper and pipe and retreat to the garage...even in winter!
editted to add....done...who's doing dessert!!!!!
editted again to add...I vote we show up at sbe's for dessert! -
Thank you, nurse Katy, so happy you are with us for flu shot 101! I got mine in the good arm last week! My sister is going to be so sad when I tell her she only has 6 more years of nasal mist and then it's needles! -
We are musical sisters too! I play piano still today, and played flute and piccolo in the school band, marching band included. In my senior year I put the flute down and took up the oboe, which was all kinds of fun, but sounded like a dying goose. My mom said, "If you want to play that thing please practice it at school." -
hahaha! I remember my dad being really happy when I could play something he could recognize as music...a song he knew. -
love the oboe!!!! Never had strong enough lips to play it. Funniest marching band story....I got beaned by a trombone player when the dude turned the wrong way during an on-field maneuver while performing a half-time show. I ended up with a black eye, he had a dent in his trombone, so the "slidey" part didn't slide anymore...pfft...served that sophomore right....smacking into a senior....I was a squad leader for god's sake!!!!! -
Hahahahahaha....hilarious....dh asked me what I am cracking up about -
ooops - did we wake him up? -
I have to get my flu shot in my butt this year. I'm not dropping trouble in Walgreen's!
Yay, Patty and Krissy! You sound just fine. Time will pass faster than you can believe right now. Be patient and kind with yourself, as per Nihahi's reminder.
Fly fishing was awesome! Great weather, great guide, fun ladies, gourmet food! Best part---didn't really think about bc while I was fishing. LE, yes. I had to take breaks. I caught a one foot rainbow trout which we released. Photos later....eyelids are drooping...... -
Hahahahaha....another marching band story...one year, our band director talked to the opposing team's band director and they cooked it up that we would play the National Anthem together. Both bands. Solidarity, big sound, all that. Too bad our sheet music for the Star Spangled Banner had been written in two different keys. I can't remember the Star Spangled Banner ever sounding that awful. -
hey! That is supposed to say dropping TROU, not trouble. Although I am that. -
jeannie....you are such a hoot....I think Wilbur is playing with your keyboard again!!!!
sbe...gawd.....talk about earbleeds! Did you at least all finish at the same time??? hmmm.... I notice you haven't mentioned what's for dessert yet??? Something with dark chocolate would be nice, eh bailey! -
Jeannie sounds like a great day! Fly fishing always looks to beautiful and artistic to me. So glad you enjoyed! -
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I have been reading and hope my recovery is like yours without the terrible pain and complications. I generally pretty positive but now that its 9 days away the anxiety is kicking in. I'm having trouble sleeping. I keep waking up with surgery on my mind. I have help for three weeks after I get iut of the hospital. Do you think that will be sufficient? -
Nihani, hmmm, not sure that's what he meant, but sounds good to me. LOL. It's kind of like if we actually recall labor pain nobody would have more than one kid.
Watch out trying to get that remote from your almost asleep husband. If he's anything like mine the startle reflex can be dangerous, especially with a remote in hand. -
butterfleyez....ask your doc for some anti-anxiety med like ativan...you need to sleep, you don't need to be trying to get to the "starting line" without help. Three weeks of help sounds good, but remember, everyone recovers at different speeds. By that time, you should have an idea of how you're doing. You still will likely be under restrictions for lifting, pulling, pushing, etc. would might need some organizing if you are going to be totally independent at 3 weeks. -
For dessert, Nihahi, definitely nothing pink!
My favorite is creme brulee. Not too sweet, crunchy baked sugar top, like the ice on a creamy, yummy lake.
