Great collection, Jackie.
The thing that so many people don't seem to realize, is that if the gov. shuts down, the gov DOES NOT PAY ITS BILLS for work that has already been done - for laws that have been already passed, not just Obamacare -it's kind like the people wanting to shut down the gov. bought "new shoes" took them home and WORE THEM FOR MONTHS and then just refuse to pay for them. This is not about future spending, this is what we OWE so far as a country.
President Obama won the election, TWICE, by more than 50% of the vote, it is called OBAMACARES because he does, and we do, at least the 50% plus who worked for him, and helped to get him elected, I am putting this into VERY PLAIN language, in honor of Pamela Mercer who worked ( HARD!!!) to elect President Obama in 2008, and then again, in 2012.
-
Sunny, no matter how plain and simple the language, teacrazies will never get it, because they don't want to. I really think these thugs want to shut down the government. In a way I hope they do, because then Dems will probably take back the House in 2014. At that point maybe our government can get something done!

I'm with you yorkie - but feel awful about the women on SS disability - Medicare, everything people need to live, function.
And what they are fighting to "repel" - the medical device tax, this is from a WashPost article:
"
The medical device tax is part of a suite of fees imposed on the health-care industry. The Affordable Care Act is expected to expand health insurance coverage to millions of Americans, which amounts to a windfall for health-care providers. The previously-uninsured will, all of a sudden, have health plans that cover trips to the doctor and hospital. That's expected to increase the consumption of health care.
When legislators drafted the Affordable Care Act, they asked each health industry to essentially give something up in return for the increased volume of patients they would now see. Health insurers, for example, agreed to pay an industry-wide fee that would generate $60.1 billion in revenue over the course of a decade. Pharmaceutical companies had a similar assessment.
As for medical device makers, they ended up with a 2.3 percent tax on sales. This would, according to the Congressional Budget Office, generate $20 billion in revenue over the course of a decade--which the health law plows back into expanding insurance coverage. The tax applies to devices such as defibrillators or pacemakers. Anything sold over-the-counter directly to consumers (think hearing aids, contact lenses and eyeglasses) is exempt."

Here in simple English is what the regressives fail to understand:
ETA: And just for good measure, there is no war on Christianity. If government troops aren't padlocking chuchrs or burning them down, there is no war on Christianity. If you aren't thrown in jail for showing up at church or praying in public, there is no war on Christianity.
The Republican nominees for President lost in 2008 and 2012.
More than 50% of the voters rejected their ideas and their plans.
Voters did not like the ideas and plans of the Republican nominees for President.
Voters did like the ideas and plans of the Democratic nominee for President in 2008 and 2012.
More than 50% of the voters voted for President Obama.
Barack Obama won the Presidency twice with more than 50% of the vote.
Republicans are in the minority in this country.
Their ideas have been rejected by more than 50% of the voters.
Democrats running for Congress actually received more votes than Republicans, but through gerrymandering, Republicans were elected.
Republicans in Congress do not represent the will of the majority of the people.
More than 50% of U.S. voters rejected Republican ideas and policies in two elections since 2008.
There is a process for repealing laws that is outlined in the Constitution.
The constitutional process is that both houses of Congress pass a new bill repealing the old bill. The president either signs or vetos the new bill. Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 majority in both the House and the Senate.
The Republican Party is in the minority. It only controls one half of one third of the government. It cannot muster enough votes to complete the process to repreal the Affordable Care Act.
To shut down the government or cause the government to default on the debt because they are in the minority and cannot do what they wantis subverting the Constitution. That is sedition at the very least.
And I don't give a steaming pile of crap what the ignoramuses say. It is entirely their problem if they don't know the difference between communism and socialism. I am quite sure they think that socialism is a political system. Just makes them look wilfully ignorant. If you are taking advantage of Social Security or Medicare, if you have ever availed yourself of police or fire protection, if you went to public school or sent your children to public school, your opinion of socialism is irrelevant and you are a hypocrite. If you think that poor people should not have adequate nutritition or access to healthcare or health insurance, you are a monster. If you hate the president because he is a black man in the White House, if you call his daughters (little girls!) gangstas or trash or you call the First Lady names like Moo Moo, you are a racist. In any case, I am not interested in anything you have to say.
End of my rant.
And President Obama isn't a tyrant, as has already been pointed out. He is not acting like a king. If he were a tyrant, you would be in jail for calling him the names he has been called. The very fact that you can critize the President and the government without being disappeared or executed means he is not a tyrant and this is still a democracy. Until, of course, the Republicans destroy the Constitution and with it the Republic.

Well said, RL
-
Thanks, notself. I just appended a little more rant. Apparently I am rant-y today. :-)
😊 -
Loved it!
-
RANT ON.
btw, I just learned a new word...
are ya ready? Maybe it ain't new to all, but it is to me: Teahadists
-
Sunny, I am horrified about how so many will suffer at the hand of the teahadists (love the new word!), but if it has to happen at least those scum will experience consequences.
-
Again, I think the word is descriptive - but I also think we can elevate the discussion by simply stating the facts - as RL has just done quite eloquently. Let us not stoop to the level of discourse shown in other places.
So sayeth the teacher of English and the mother of a philosopher.ETA - stepping away from the lectern now and I promise to not mention this again.
-
Just remember somebody, somewhere is having a conniption fit over the discussion we are having here. Keep up the good work! And on that note I will say good night. I used to be a night hawk but no more!
-
Lassie - oh English teacher, help!! Being essentially orphaned at 15, having no parents to correct my speaking of English, and living in ruralsville for nearly 40 years, I have picked up a horrible habit! How do I correct it???? I say "Her and her husband." I do not say "Him and his wife." As far as I know, from my friends, this is my only speaking faux pas. I have asked my close friends to correct me (and they do), but it's not like correcting "Yeah" into "Yes." It appears to be much more difficult to self-correct. Should I say it correctly 100 times a day. Any suggestions?
-
Just announce that it is colloquially correct and carry on.
-
RL...everything you said.

Hi everyone:
My Dad is back home, doing pretty good, and I'm doing much much better. He's still 94, still very weak, but he's talking and he's improving.
Regarding what everyone on this thread has said about the Republicans shutting down the government and Obamacare - i say - ditto.
For light relief - check out Jon Stewart and the Bore-Ax. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-september-25-2013/healthcare-bill---ted-s-excellent-adventure---the-bore-ax

Hi all, now in California. Today while DH visited the blueberries I was entertained by one of the wives. what a treat. I heard all the teaparty rubbish about the country, health care and having a muslim president. And I had to be polite which I was and didn't comment. However I did say that I come from a place with a state health system and was told but it doesn't work just look at Canada. All Canadians hate it to which I did reply that some might not be happy with having to wait but at least every one can get health care when its really needed. I did explain that all my treatment was under the state hospital. Answer - well you couldn't get the best treatment - oh yesI did from a leading onc and some new treatment not used in the US at the time. Then we had to go out to dinner with them.
What got me was actually how limited their knowledge of the world was and how superficial. Don't worry we have them in NZ as well.Home tomorrow night.
-
Dear Alyson, having had the great pleasure of meeting you, I am sure you were beyond polite with those idjuts, and probably have a sore tongue from biting it so often!
They are filled with hatred for anything and anyone that doesn't agree with the garbage they have learned from their own RWNJ media. They believe only what they want to believe. They care only for others who think as they do, others who look like them, others who "worship" as they do.
I have very frequently disagreed with some of our Prime Ministers and their party in power. I have never, ever, wished my country ill through the issues or bills they have endorsed. My hope, always, has been that those bills (and eventually, acts of law) would succeed, even though I disapproved of them. To me, that's called "love of country".
That is why I just find it so incredibly difficult to understand that the GOP is so willing to risk "the full faith and credit" of their very own country because of ideological disagreements. While it may not be the law, I would consider the GOP's behaviour to be acts of treason, if not simply sedition, against their very own country.
Then again, the GOP has done just about everything in its power to keep the U.S. from improving in the face of the worst recession the country has ever experienced. That, again, is beyond all rational comprehension. Although there are many in the U.S. who do not have any desire to see outside their own borders, the rest of the world (at least, those who actually matter most) are appalled and aghast at what is happening, not least because a government shutdown has major economic and legal concerns for those who trade and contract with the U.S. And a refusal to increase the debt limit will have beyond major implications for the worldwide economy.
But I'm afraid the GOP and, more especially, the Teahadists, coudln't care less about their very own country. They can fool themselves into thinking that their ideology will produce a country that they, and their kind, (and only their kind) will eventually enjoy. But they are extremely short-sighted, and are being lied to and conned by the very folk they are now idolizing.
Alyson -- safe journey home!
-
Wow! I just saw some of the anti health care ads playing in the States. I briefly wondered if they were SNL skits at first. I guess the republicans can't profess to not using scare tactics now.
-
Patriots? My ARSE!
Allyson, sorry I missed you!
-
-
Bon Voyage Alyson!

Blue....how beautiful. I love real ladybugs. We had another kind introduced a few years back ( bad memory but China pops into my head ) to help control and eradicate something else. They are not as pretty......turn out to be pests that want to winter in your home....and they smell bad if you kill them. Oh joy....in the name of progress. They are a more oranngy, yellowish, color --- I never think good luck when I see them.
Alyson....safe trip home. C for C is so right......I think the word that I often heard about people like the TP'ers was rail-headed. Just another way of saying hopelessly stupid WITH the word hopelessly underlined several times.
I did watch the not ready for prime time in any way, shape or form....Mr. Carnival himself, on MTP. I chortled so many times . He stuck to his script....that is about the most I could say. Still Stupid -- Different Day oozed out everywhere. D. Greggory called him out a couple of times...surprised me, but in the end the script was adhered to.
All in all, the same dull, losers routine is going on and they are not getting any farther. Ta Ta.
