alexandria,
Best wished for your dad to recover. It's so hard when a parent is ill. Best wishes.
-
So sorry Sandy. Hoping for all the best for you and your family.
-
I have a friend who works here. Please keep him in your thoughts.
-
Thoughts and prayers for your dad's speedy recovery, Alexandria, and for your friend, E.
These shootings have become so routine in our crazy gun culture that one hardly notices any more when they happen.

-
Alexandria ... I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he is improving today.
Enjoyful ... That is really scary. I'll keep your friend in my thoughts.
hugs,
Bren

Phew....just heard that he's in training off-site today. Thanks, everyone!

Great news, E!

Interesting ideas from a while back:

-
I'm a little outraged over the outrage. Seems a great segment of our society is very un-happy that an Indian actually WON the Miss America title. If I hear one more of them say they are not racist I think I'll end up regurgitating on one of their heads. I choose to see life as a gift and I can't see spending and using my great gift to be demeaning and destructive about and with people who are not just like me. Don't they ever, but ever stop and think.....what would you hate and despise if you didn't have others who are not quite like you. It is my belief that I can learn a great deal more by loving than I ever will by hating.
If perchance, somewhere out there in the great beyond there is a Creator to meet and I do think there is, I certainly have no intention of having to own up to the years and years spend hating people and holding them back. I'm sure I will have deep regrets to list, but so far in this life, whether I liked someone or not, agreed with them or not....I've always wished them well. I find people who are so intolerant just totally ludacris. Watch out for the karma, its inescapable.

so sorry.....spell checker is out hiking somewhere apparently.

Forgot to add, though it will not raise anyone's eyebrows here.....Fox News feels our new Miss America does not represent American values. For my 2 cents...neither does Fox News by a very long and deep margin. I think there is a place for the very bigoted opinion of Fox News. How pathetic, but then they aren't really news...just a third rate parody of same.

E....forgot to say glad your friend was not in harms way and Alexandria......healing thoughts for your Dad and hugs to you. I hope things will get better, soon.

She is beautiful and very talented!
-
If you start a sentence with the phrase, "I'm not racist, but ..." - then you are a racist and have identified yourself as such.
An Indian-American Miss America absolutely exemplifies American values. -
Last time I looked she is an American with Indian ancestry. Perhaps now every contestant will have to reveal their ancestry, since we are all descended from immigrants.
My nephew works in the building next to the one where the shootings took place. This has to be a weird shooting. What an obscure target......unless the shooter had some connection to it. -
-
Hi Friends,
I thought Miss America was really beautiful. I read that she plans on becoming a doctor. Not sure why Fox news would be upset that she doesn't represent American values. She seems pretty All-American to me.
Chickadee ... I am so happy your nephew was not in the building. I can't believe what happened ... just read that 12 people were killed, including the shooter. Apparently, the cops are still looking for suspects. Tim just called and said he is currently driving around DC heading south and it's a nightmare.
Enjoyful ... So glad your friend was offsite today .. what a relief.
hugs,
Bren

Chickadee, the initial reports say that the shooter was a civilian contractor for the Navy, but used someone else's ID to get into the Navy Yard. Right now they think it was a lone gunman.
-
Happy Belated Birthday Jackie!!
Happy Birthday one day early, Brenda!!!

-
Bren, Jackie - HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAYS
Chickadee - I was thinking of Pope John 23 too. Still miss him, but think this one is gonna be GOOD too.
Enjoyful - all fingers crossed for your friend...so SO sad we are living thru another crisis like this...oh, when will it STOP!!!
Sandy - thinking of you, hope Dad is gonna get better...
Jackie - thanks for the pic of the MA ( my
) Senator. And YEAH, Summer's ain't gonna be head of da fed!Science: figured out why the tree frogs ( thanks jackie for identifying) climb up the window screen in late August, September, they are nocturnal, I leave the light on in my bedroom while reading in bed, attracts little buggies to the screen, and I can now watchlittle froggies catching them and munch, munch, munch. They are so sweet, tender, fragile, I can SEE their little bodies, stomachs side view, moving with the heartbeats.
News on me - colonoscopy today, only one small polyp, removed, expect it to be fine. And if it ain't, it was small enuf not to be a problem. BTW, I think the Prep for Colonoscopy should come with a DVD to keep us amused:
"A River Runs through It."

-
oops...so much to read I FORGOT to say THANK YOU for checking in Anne - hope there isn't too much damage in your house, and that you'll be able to move around soon - seems like rain has stopped for a while - but just thinking about the amounts still doesn't register that amount of rain. Until you write 10 feet of snow -
stay safe and warm....

A real thought here and basically true:

-
Saw it, loved it, decided to share:

-
I went to read at the DDS (Dopey Dark Side)!

-
Thanks for all the good wishes everybody. I don't have the energy to go through all that's happened with my father, but I'm still hopeful that he'll get home and have some quality time left. I try to get over there by 9 or so, so i'm spending a few minutes on my computer before taking my shower and running.
Saw a glimpse of Miss America from my Dad's room. What a beautiful young woman. Whoever thinks she doesn't represent America needs to go back to England or France or Germany or whatever European country his/her ancestors emmigrated from.
-
Alexandria - warm thoughts to you and your father in this difficult time. It's wonderful for him that he has a daughter like you.
Miss America is really beautiful, isn't she? What on earth are people thinking when they say she doesn't reflect American values? She certainly reflects my values, and I'm American.
-
Morning Friends,
Blue .. You cracked me up. "DDS" is so silly. I like to read the dark side website. It makes me laugh. Plus, it's always good to see old friends!
Alexandria .. I am so sorry about your dad. I know this must be so hard for you. I remember when I said good-bye to my dad ... I thought my heart would break in two. I hope he has many many more days ahead to spend with you.
Gumby .. I agree with you about Ms. America. I did some reading this morning and sure enough ... there were lots of comments out there about Ms. America not reflecting our values. Makes me sad that Americans would react this way to such a lovely young woman.
hugs,
Bren
