I had a low grade mucinous carcinoma 1.9 cm. No lymph node involvment. Stage 1. They recommended radiation and hormonal therapy and said I wouldn't need chemotherapy as long as there was no lymph node involvment. After surgery she ordered the oncotype dx and it came back with a score of 23 (intermediate range). They then reccomended chemotherapy because of this. I really do not want to go through chemotherapy. how much can it possibly benefit me.

Hello beatcancer1178, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.

Until you hear from members sharing their own experiences, you can read much more about Chemotherapy at the main Breastcancer.org site.

I was stage 1, grade 3.  1.5 cm, sentinel node negative.   Diagnosed in Nov. 2009.   Lumpectomy and radiation but no chemo.  Currently on exemestane.   My oncotype dx score was 17.  Doctors said it was my decision whether or not to have chemo.  I chose not to after weighing all the pros and cons.  So far no problems, but you have to make the decision for yourself.  Good luck to you!!

Beatcancer... We have a thread devoted to mucinous carcinoma of the breast. I would also strongly recommend a second opinion or have your case presented to a tumor board. Are you premenopausal? There are additional treatments to consider. Are you over 40? You might be a candidate for Zometa and/ or ovarian suppression. Also, register on the NCCN website and read the PROFFESSIONAL version ( not patients) breast cancer guidelines. There is a page devoted to tubular and mucinous breast cancer. Read the footnotes too.

    Good luck!
