Hi everyone! Just had a lovely visit from our New Zealand pal Alyson and her lovely husband. They're on their way to see the Falls (Niagara, that is!) and then on to her DD's home in Oakville, a beautiful city on the Lake Ontario shore. Spending a whole month in North America, starting with Vancouver, then NYC and New England, across the river to Canada for 2 weeks, then to Denver and LA and home again. Alyson has met several BCO pals along the way, with a few more to meet in Toronto and in Denver. Thanks BCO!
I miss Athena alot. Had a lovely note from her sisters and Mom, who must be missing her terribly.

Alexandria - the wedding and the festivities afterwards sound wonderful - why are there so many hiccups before every wedding??? I spent a good part of my (mispent) youth in Vermont - camping at Isle L'amot (sure my french spelling is off but it translates into english as Isle of Mud) and skiing at Stowe.
Bren - I too am puzzled - what happened to your leg? Hope you're well on your way to recovery (does this mean you won't be mowing for a while??)

In the "Now I've heard everything" department, there's this:
Legally blind and completely blind Iowans can obtain permits to carry guns in public due to a 2011 adjustment to state law banning sheriffs from denying permits based on physical ability, the Des Moines Register reported Sunday.
Polk County officials have issued weapons permits to at least three people who "can’t legally drive and were unable to read the application forms or had difficulty doing so because of visual impairments," according to the Register. Sheriffs in three other counties told the newspaper they've done the same.
“I’m not an expert in vision,” Delaware county Sheriff John LeClere told the Register. “At what point do vision problems have a detrimental effect to fire a firearm? If you see nothing but a blurry mass in front of you, then I would say you probably shouldn’t be shooting something.”
But Jane Hudson, executive director of Disability Rights Iowa, said excluding the blind from weapon permits would violate the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Register reported.
Special training for blind permit holders is on the table in at least one Iowa county, where the sheriff, whose legally blind daughter plans to obtain a permit, demonstrated a practice shooting session for the Register.
A seeing-eye dog might be better protection (for everyone concerned) perhaps.....My mother's border collie wouldn't let a stranger come within 25 feet of her. Best protection ever!

George Zimmerman in Custody After Gun Incident
Sept. 9, 2013By COLLEEN CURRY and MISEON LEEAccording to police in Lake Mary, Florida, Zimmerman is being detained by police after a domestic dispute involving his wife and father-in-law, Colin Morgan."There was some kind of a domestic, we know that with his wife and father-in-law. Apparently there were some weapons involved and threats," the deputy police chief in Lake Mary told ABC News.
He has not been charged with any crime.
Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, recently announced plans to divorce.
Her attorney told ABC News that George pulled a knife on her today after she discovered a firearm in the house they shared. He then pulled a gun on her and her father after a verbal altercation went bad, according to attorney Kelly Sims.
George Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Josh Margolin and Aaron Katersky contributed to this report.
---------------------------------------------------
So, he got away with murder and he now thinks he is invincible? What is sad is that there are people who will defend him, saying "poor man, he is just under stress." Unfreakingbelievable. His soon-to-be-ex-wife better get out of that house asap.
-
You said it Libby! What a lunatic!
-
Alexandria, the weeding sounds just fantastic! What wonderful memories your family will have!
George Zimmerman, UGH! I'm surprised it took that cretin this long to threaten another person with a gun (also a knife I read). He should have been locked away for a long time.
-
He has been stopped by the police twice already before this - once in Texas for speeding. With a new gun in the glove box. I guess he thinks that everyone will give "poor Georgie" a free pass. You know, DH says that when people are stopped by the police, often they write their own ticket (meaning if they sass the patrolman, they often get more infractions). Well, I think "poor Georgie" is going to write his own fate sooner or later. Does anyone else hear the Karma Bus revving its engine?

-
RL, I so hope. Just learned he has been released by police. Not sure if Shellie and her dad have pressed charges.
-
Zimmerman killed an unarmed teenager. I imagine he is feeling the repercussions from that terrible act. He wanted to be a cop and now everyone knows what a loser he is.
-
Zimmerman has demonstrably poor decision-making skills and an anger management problem. Apparently his wife and her father have reportedly decided not to press charges - but that decision is not theirs to make under Florida law. The District Attorney's office will decide what they are going to do.
-
I read she recanted what she said on the 911 tape, after talking to her lawyer. But I'm sure the police saw her dad's broken nose. Also, I have now read that GZ is claiming Shellie attacked him!
-
Sandy ... you made me smile! I guess I forgot to post about the skin problem on the back of my right leg. It's a pre-melanoma type of lesion. Abnormal cells ... anyway, it's the third time I've had that area removed, so this time the doctor did a wider and deeper resection. arggh. Thank goodness I only have to see this doc every six months.
hugs,
Bren

I watch too much Judge Judy. My guess is old George came by to get his stuff and they got to bickering. Whatever occurred between them two their lawyers got there pronto and "advised" them.
You know they wouldn't want those Internet donations to dry up once the numbskulls that sent him money figure out he ain't a political cause or the poster boy for gun laws. -
Chicky, that's the background situation. But Zimmy also punched Shellie's father. That's definitely assault. I don't even think it is alleged (although I guess everything is at this point) because the police treated the man at the scene. He also allegedly deliberately damaged his wife's computer. The 911 call from Mrs. Z is actually pretty chilling. Also, apparently a neighbor saw everything. I just want that danger to society put away!
-
Yorkie, I think Georgie will take care of putting himself away one way or another. Between his poor decision-making skills and anger management problem, I strongly suspect he is going to do the wrong thing at the wrong time and ... Well, Florida does still have that "Stand Your Ground" law and if Georgie keeps threatening people, someone will eventually have to stand their ground against Georgie. Or he will assault someone and the prosecutor will have no choice but to press charges -- and perhaps a jury will NOT acquit. I am more confident than ever that he will pay somehow for murdering that teenager.
-
RL, I totally agree. Z is a, not too bright, loose canon. His own stupid hubris will land him in the big house eventually, unless he "stands his ground" with somebody who has a bigger gun. Florida is a dangerous place. Killers of babies and adolescents walk free without even a slap on the hand. It's the wild, wild West.
-
Mrs Georgie is recanting on the gun and police report no gun found. Low class, no class.
-
*sigh* Wait 5 more minutes and it will change.
-
Alexandria.....glad along with everyone else that the wedding turned out well despite some hurdles that look threatning. Also please add my wishes that your Dad get back to being in fine feddle too.
Bren.....here's hoping that this time is the last time you need to have anything cut from your leg.....or hopefully anywhere else. I think mowing is not good for that leg right now.
Ah, the great Zimmerman. I think RL you hit it on the head squarely.....that yo-yo just can't stay away from the radar long and it will be his un-doing. Good for him -- it is time he find out where humble bones are located...nothing like Karma to put you in your place soundly.
Jackie

Well, Zimmerman will kill somebody else soon. As Bush would say, he's been emboldened.
Thanks for all the good wishes and good thoughts. Dad continues to do better - hoping he can get home soon.
-
Wasn't GZ's wife indicted for perjury at one time? I heard that GZ's lawyer, the redhead (not to disparage redheads) is now a legal analyst for CNN. I guess they're under new management and need to attract the GZ fans. He's a loser and his wife is probably coming to terms with. What did she say....all George has left me with is broken glass.

My sister is visiting from Boston. We just had a political discussion that I have been trying to avoid all day. Yikes!
Here are the short notes....
Obama should just produce his birth certificate if he was Bon in the US.
Palin is 100 x smarter than Hillary Clinton.
You can't blame Bush for anything that has happened in Obama'administration, including the deficit.
Obamacare will be the end of America.
How can anyone criticize Bush after Clinton had sex with an intern in the Oval Office?
Hillary knew what was going to happen in Benghazi days before and did nothing.
The government and stupid, irresponsible people caused the housing/financial issues. The banks were just doing what they were told to.
If only Palin would run for office. That is what it will take to get the country back on track.
I could go on but I think you can see what my evening was like. And we didn't even get into the Syria issue. I will NOT allow myself to get into that discussion (lecture) tomorrow! -
Poor pip. Not fun. Dealing with prejudice, stupidity, and ignorance in a sibling. (I just have to deal with stupidity with my sister.)
-
Pip, noooooooooooooooooo! So sorry you had to endure such abuse!

-
There's no discussion with that kind of thought process. I'd just stick my fingers in my ears and sing "Afternoon Delight" as loudly and proudly as I could.
-
Great choice of song for the occasion E!
-
Oh, PiP, how maddening. I agree with E - you cannot have a discussion with that kind of irrationality and delusion. It would be like trying to discuss Darwin's Origin of the Species with someone visiting the Museum of Creation.
You probably wouldn't want to send her this YouTube if you wanted to maintain a relationship with her, since she apparently idolizes Sparklemoose, but this is from the 2008 election. I can't hear the song "Hey There Delilah" (which this parody uses) without singing along the lyrics of the parody.
-
Pip: Methinks your sis is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome by was of Massachesetts (a blue state, for goodness sake!). She needs to come back to the GWN to be reprogrammed. Or else she needs a whole new set of friends to set her straight. OR she inherited a stupid gene from one of your long-lost relatives. How on earth did you keep your cool with her?

-
Pip - Do you ever wonder how on earth you and your sister share the same genes?
-
Wow !!!! my whole set of in-laws wrapped up in one person Pip. To my in-laws credit ( most of them the men ) they are not quite as taken with Sarah Palin.....but just as demented pretty much about the rest.
Always of interest to me when former Pres. Clinton is brought up in regard to Monica Lewinsky. The rest of the story-line never comes.....that despite all the haranguing and money spent....he was un-touchable. Didn't make the situation right........and of course, in the end -- only a few people are "dumb" enough to latch onto that 'negative'.
I seldom talk about Bush ( though using a few graphics as a teeny reminder never phase me ) because he was sooooooo bad of a President. Hated that part, but it did finally have the effect of shutting up the relatives. Pretty bad when your actions become so in your face, that there is no longer a way to ' connive a decent possible excuse ' and so you just frown and try to change the subject.
I also think.....wow !!!! Such difference in a family and my heart goes out to you Pip for the dichotomy of your situation. You must be the grand master of slow silent burns...........but an excellent reason to choose lots of other subjects at all times when possible. My hats off to you.
Jackie
Had to come back and remove an h that was in front of an as. Sometimes I'm reading too fast and miss the obvious.....and then there are those who might say....your missing more than the obvious. To them I guess I'd just have to say....buzz off.
