Listened to NPR about the melting of the glaciers in Europe in the 1800's. They have found this rapid melting to be caused by the industrial revolution. Imagine that - climate change caused by the actions of mankind. And some people say that's impossible! And still will say that!

Kam, I must agree. I, too, am glad the baby lived, but the Congresswoman is the living, breathing embodiment of hypocrisy. Personally, I am glad that there are resources to keep that baby alive -- TAXPAYER DOLLARS, btw. I also believe that a baby born to an umemployed mother on welfare in public housing deserves the same chance and the same treatment as that Congresswoman's baby. And the millions of poor children in schools deserve federally-subsidized lunches with the same taxpayer dollars. And the struggling single parent who has to take off work to care for a critically ill child should be afforded the same family leave and job protection that the Congresswoman has.



But she would take health care away from other critically-ill children - and grownups. She would deny routine medical care that might save lives. She should be ashamed. I don't advocate taking health care away from her child, but I think she needs to change her value system - a child born in a housing project with the same condition as her daughter deserves to live as much as does her daughter.



And I would not find it a useful exercise to have a conversation with this woman - or indeed, anyone who thinks that poor children shouldn't get free or subsidized lunches, or that poor babies are less deserving of health care than rich babies. I don't want to talk to them. I don't think they are stupid - I think that they know the consequences of what they advocate and they don't care. That's why I am angry.

Hi everyone.  Have a few moments this morning to report in, since I'm staying at home until a doctor's appointment at 10:30.  I haven't had a chance to catch up on all the pages I've missed.

The wedding was beautiful.  Absolutely beautiful.  They were married on the edge of a lake surrounded by mountains, with the sun shining through the clouds at the moment they were introduced as the married couple.  The reception was fun, fun, with the young people flying kites, running on the beach, doing hula hoops, wood oven pizza prepared at the site; we then moved to my house for an after party, and I had 14 people staying on the floor, on beds, on couches.  They stayed up until 3 - Jim and I called it quits at 1 a.m..  It was worth every hysterical moment leading up to it, and boy were there hysterical moments.  When we first arrived, we found there would be construction on the main road, about 100 feet from the ceremony spot.  My daughter was actually crying and screaming - she has hearing issues and can't stand loud noises.  She was convinved that the wedding would be ruined by the sound of drilling etc.  - so we spent all of the first day in Vermont hunting for an alternative venue.  Her photographer offered her house, but I convinced Jenny to wait and I'd talk to the crew and we could sit in the park and listen to see how loud the construction was.  The foreman couldn't have been nicer, telling me that they would be digging, and that he would try to keep any loud machines off for the afternoon of the wedding.  (I love Vermont!)  So that was resolved.  then the groom missed his plane, forgot his luggage - really -my husband's car broke down, we had forecasts of rain for the wedding. Yada yada.  But it all came together.  My DD and new SIL spent WEdnesday night at the posh Stowe resort for their wedding night - after all the guests had flown to California or driven back to whereever.  She was crying again, this time with joy, saying she couldn't believe how beautiful it had all been, how grateful she was to me and my husband.  

So we drove back Friday with the bride and groom riding with my husband, and as we're leaving, got a call that my 94 year old father had to be taken to the ER and then admitted to the hospital with a rapid heartbeat and urinary tract infection.  We were 8 hours away - and nothing else I could do but drive.  I've spent most of the time since we got back at the hospital.  it got pretty scary yesterday morning, but he seems to be stabilizing and I'm hopeful we'll get him home and have some more time with him.

Anyway, I am totally beat, but did promise a report.   Will check in later. 

Alexandria - I hope your father is doing well.  The wedding sounds like it was beautiful.  Your SIL forgot his luggage?!!!??   Good thing there are stores pretty much everywhere!! And so glad that your daughter was able to calm down and enjoy her wedding. 

Bren - I have a memory that just plain sucks.  Did you have skin cancer on your leg?

7 weeks and 4 days before retirement.  We meet with the retirement office next week at which time things will (I believe) finally begin to feel real.  The CISO here just opened his own contracting company and has asked me to include myself in his group of available contractors.  I'm inclined to do so, but hubby isn't so sure.  We're still discussing....

Alexandria - so happy for you to have had SUCH a good wedding. Sending healing good wishes to your Dad, and you for you MUST need a rest now.

Can't believe people like Steve King, and that other guy exist on the same planet we all live on.

Bren- HEAL.  Must have missed your posting about the leg surgery - hope it wasn't a "serious" skin cancer. Don't even want to write the "M" word...shudder.

Happy Fall to all,  we're having the occasional frost now.  Allergy season in FORCE.  Doing my 'tests' between allegra, or zyrtec ( generics both, thank you Costco) - think the zyrtec wins for me, taking it just b4 I go to sleep. Tried the allegra cuz so many suggested it, but doesn't seem to work for me.  For most of the year my chinese medicine is fine, but once the dreaded ragweed strikes - only not breathing would really help.

Still it's sunny days - and sungold tomatoes are finally really producing.  Yummy.

Still sign on expecting to hear from Athena - there will never be another fashion season. Still seems unreal.
