Three years for me, yay!
Well it's my three year anniversary today! 7cm total area with extensive high grade DCIS and multi-focal tumors, four positive nodes, one 4.5cm, another 3.5cm! LVI invasion!! my largest invasive tumor was 1.6cm!!! I was told this type of extensive invasion on a relatively small tumor (the other three were smaller) was common with a Her2+ tumor! Most of my cancer was DCIS. They told me I likely had this DCIS through my thirties. It was my first mammogram at 44 years of age. Symptoms brought me in (inverted nipple, crusty sore on nipple, weird looking breast). Nursing kept me from getting timely mammograms from 40 to 43. Yes, long term breastfeeding did not protect me! I am happy to be here today. There have been no significant changes in my life. I still need to lose 50 pounds, I still need to exercise more, I still eat red meat and sugar and I am surrounded by stressful people who sometimes carry on about the most petty things imaginable, like a store not having their favorite cereal. I have found that in the past three years I have had many, many symptoms that I could have attributed to mets. But all of them....every single one....resolved themselves and I am starting to not only read on here or think but actually believe that it IS possible that I may survive and I can see that it is absolutely pointless and a complete waste of time to believe anything other than the only current truth (that message is really for me, I have made numerous posts about worries). I am here today, three years after my initial diagnosis of a very aggressive cancer! So yay for me!!!

Yay for you indeed! Thanks for posting, and I so agree that we must embrace feeling good in the here and now. It is all anyone has, although it is much easier to say it than to live it.

To Kathleen from Julie Kathleen...three cheers for you (one for each year)! I remember asking my surgeon at my first follow-up visit "what will help stop my worrying?" and her answer was "Time." As you can see, I've had seven years' worth (although unfortunately, a lot of it WAS spent worrying!) and hope to be still counting for years to come. Next goal: our 30-year wedding anniversary on Sept. 15, 2014!
Hugs to you - and to ALL of us -
Julie

I'm so happy for you, Kathleen. What a fantastic post you have written. Worry... ya, I hear that! I like your statement about what a waste of time worry is for us and believe, like you, that the reality of the present moment, or "current truth" is what matters. Lots of hugs, G.

Ditto the yay for you!!!! Congrats! We were diagnosed around the same time, so I always like to hear good news like yours! I'm a bit of a slacker when it comes to following excercise and nutrition too. Trying my best, but I'm not going to stress about it!

Usually I put a post on facebook but I didn't this year. Even though I consider this a large milestone for my type of cancer. I am the only one who remembers it! And there are other dates that I remember that are special to me, the surgery date, the last chemo date, the last Herceptin date (I don't celebrate the last radiation date). I will never forget them, as you all can relate to! This is the only place I acknowledged this milestone! Thank you everyone for your support! I hope you all continue to do well! We are fortunate to have and understand each other in our "secret" yet very public place!
