Sciencegal - what do you mean by cancer card? Is there literally a card or did you mean figuratively? Hope you have the time of your life in St Louis!
-
I was wondering the same thing! I was hoping it was 25% off discount card at major retailers for having BC!
-
No, sorry- it is just a saying we use for justifying buying ourselves things to make ourselves feel better- (as people "play the cancer card" in different situations, etc).
BUT there is a nice post about freebies and discounts for cancer patients on this site- I am going to bump it up to the top/ front page of the posts for you, I have it saved as a favorite.
We have to get SOME perks, right???? -
Oh dang I was hoping there really was a cancer card to give me a nice shopping discount. My husbands niece is having a baby in Sept. and I have been having too much fun buying baby clothes. Oh well, wishful thinking.
-
This wont work online of course but some girls have written that when checking out they asked the clerk, "Is there a discount for breast cancer patients?" and sometimes the sweet people would put in their codes for their own employee discounts or other unknown web specials.
Can't hurt to ask if you are "out" with your treatment. Mine has to stay in the closet unfortunately due to my job. Only a few friends, my husband, and you all know I have cancer. (hence the cold caps).
Good luck with those discounts!
Renee congrats on the new baby coming to your family- what fun! -
Thanks Sciencegal!
-
It's not shopping, but because I'm
a cancer patient I've gotten 2 really swanky corporate jet trips to NYC (with car service pickup at my door), one mountain retreat, one weeklong beach retreat for my family, all expenses paid, and my son is going to a free weeklong summer camp next month. These are real blessings from using the figurative "cancer card." And the money I save goes right to ... Shopping. :-D -
You deserve it Tarheemichelle! Well done! Glad to hear you use the money you save to good use- shopping!
-
I second that! Good job using your 'savings,' Michelle! You knew just what to do!
-
Thanks for the compliments on the shoes, ladies. I still haven't worn them out, but when I do, I will definitely wear them "with attitude."
Best line, sciencegal. Oh and I really covet your sparkly shoes! I love the heels on them. Man, I love the cancer card. I might use it again soon.
-
Ronda good for you! We MUST have some perks through all of this. I applaud your use of the cancer card, yay. How are you feeling?
Shoe update: I wore the bling shoes out to lunch with hubby today for our two year anniversary, and then he took me to rads so I got to put the tech's eyes out again with the sparkle. They were enjoyed by all. LOL
Globalgirlygirl I remember you said you dont know what is going to match your killer shoes, or what you were going to wear them with. I was thinking that since the chunky plastic jewelry is back in- you could get a necklace to somewhat match the shoes and wear with a little black dress.
AND the attitutude!! -
That's a great recommendation, sciencegal! A bright orange bracelet would look great, I think. :-)
-
Today I was feeling crappy! Just had my 5th of 6th chemo last week and lots of sinus issues and muscle aches. My kids were both at camp and my hubby says ' go out and go shopping, you will feel better'. So off I went and picked up the cutest sheer floral flowy blouse with a tassle tie at the neck! Between that and an Clartain sinus and I am feeling much better tonight!
-
Today I bought two Minecraft t-shirts for my best friend's twin boys. They will have them Friday. I can't wait for the phone call!
-
My kids LOVE minecraft!
-
Mine too. My friend's sons are 6, will be 7 in early August. My son is 15. But her kids are very advanced in technology and games. My son is their "tutor" in Mario games and will be in Minecraft this summer. Hopefully it will keep them busy during our 2 week visit so my friend and I can have some quiet time.
-
I sure it will! Have a great trip!
-
Gowiththeflow where did you find the minecraft t-shirts? My son loves minecraft.
-
Amazon. I got them the creeper shirt (it was kids sizes which I have trouble finding for them). just search "minecraft" at amazon. They have everything!
-
Hi GoWIthTheFlow- Love your new avatar!!!
-
Thanks
-
Gowiththeflow thanks! I love amazon.
-
mrenee, me too. The prime membership has been a godsend during this journey. I need something, it's easier to just order it from amazon and have it in two days (or next day if I need it quick) than it is to deal with going out to find it locally. Plus it's easy and fun to order something for a gift. You know when they are going to get it, don't have to wait a week, and shipping is free.
-
Excellent work shoppygirl! Go with the flow, I love your new pic as well.
Important shop update! Just ordered black waxed skinny jeans from Eileen Fisher. *splurge.* Cannot remember the last time I bought something NOT on sale.
I am going to rock those excellent punk waxed jeans. Oh, and I am getting a tattoo. I am now officially a bad *ss.
-
And the tattoo will be, bobogirl????
-
I've gone a little wild in the last week. I ordered a beautiful med alert bracelet for my limb alert. It has sterling beads, pearls, and swavoski crystals. Then I found a bathing suit on zappos of all places that is one shouldered. And that shoulder that's covered is my radiation side. Got it this morning before leaving for the waterpark. It was nice not to have to wear a tshirt. Oh, and those Ameona camisoles I bought aat Norstrom? Found two more colors online at another site and HAD to have them because they give me instant boobs.
-
Dragon.
Excellent shopping, go with the flow! Good score on bathing suit!
-
Looking forward to seeing the dragon, bobogirl.
Gowiththeflow, I think I know the Amoena camis you are talking about. I have black white and royal blue. Very comfy yet supportive. Congrats on your shopping conquests. -
Ladies, my PET scan last week did not have good results. My pleural effusions are back, tumors getting bigger and hotter, more cancer in my hipbones and doctors were wincing when discussing my fifth rib. So ... I went shoe shopping! I found a pair of Kate Spade shoes, Italian made, on sale for $55. I have no idea what I am going to wear with them, but I'm going to find something. They were purple, how could I say no? I also needed some black heels. I took a pic to demonstrate how to sneak into one's home with 2 new pairs of shoes in one box. ha ha.
-
Kate Spade for $55??????? I am completely jealous of your purchase. And the colors are amazing!!! Major score!
