these days i try hard not to turn on the oven...
note to cowgirl...why didn't dad get a new grill for fathers day?
they have some great deals out there at home depot and costco right now....
just so nice, not heating up the house...
i am one of the few in the neight borhod that has air but i am sooo cheap...you can see each freakin' day on your bill!
i do this open up the house and close up the house and we have lots of trees around so we stay cool...
i alwyas forget how early texas is on some crops...but they plant agin right?
tomatoes here should be coming in right soon and i know i bored you to death last year about my perfect tomato sandwich wich i can eat every day...
i wish i was hungrier these days...it must be the heat...
stay well, stay happy and know that you are loved!
laura -
Our 'Air' is on until fall. Just went to see 'An Inconvient Truth' - the Al Gore movie. Seems like more heat may be in our future, possibly beach-front property with 100 million refugees as well!
Oprah mag had a tomato sandwich. It's easy enough - 1 ripe tomato, 2 slices white bread, mayo, salt & pepper.
Can you go whole grain without destroying it or is it one of those things that must be white bread? -
one thing i can honestly say is that i hve completely embraced whole grain breads...
but it is the wicked best foods mayo where there are no substitutes...
my grandma got me hooked on seasoned salt for this sandwich many moons ago..
will see the inconvient truth on video...
i really think oprah mag does a good job...
always a real feel good and learn something read...
oh there is one place where i can't sub white bread...
cucumber sandwiches...
laura -
I bought some Mrs. Dash today.
And what do you do about the cream cheese on the cucumber sandwiches? -
small portions...more cucumbers
i love sandwiches...they are easily my favorite food...
today is a lazy day, i have been working really hard all week...
bf flew to nyc...staying at the w...i am jealous...
flying home with 25 year old daughter at the end of the week...i can't wait to spend time as a family...while we put the house on the market, ready or not...
change is good...
laura -
They're crunchy.
As long as you aren't like the woman in 'Flip This House' who put it on the market with a gas leak!
Replinished my vegies this weekend. I'm on vacation next week so I'm going to be good this week in anticipation.
Cleaned up and found my Red Hot Chili Peppers CD -
Yumm I tried a new sandwich today, instead of light mayo or mustard I used Hummus. So hummus, honey turkey and lettuce! Yummy!
DH got a Sex in the City tape laura, it is what he wanted. Plus since I didn't get my anniversary ring he ain't getting a grill until Maise comes in!
Funny I never watched Sex in the City but DH loves it! Now I have to hide it from the boys! -
rose - i hope you have a wonderful week off!
too cute, hubby likes sex in the city...
no gas leaks but the water pressure is not the greatest...
well back to the cleaning, painting and packing that has become my life for now!
laura -
6 inches of rain Sunday. Another 4 tonight.
I can tread water! -
we had that same weather mother's day weekend.....I never saw anything like it before...do you believe in global warming?
-
believing in global warming...doesn't all the scientific proof take it into hard fact status...the question more is how are we going to deal with it...
with some ag acres of land in central california...i am getting ready to move off the grid...solar, wind, wells...
it should be very interesting...
boyfriend is an engineer and looking forwardto the project...
back to the global warming thing...i heard on the radio it was warmer than it has been in 2000 years...
how do they know>? there are no ice caps in my area...
laura -
I walk to public transit. It's going on my list of things that I will judge politicians by.
-
I like a tomato, mayo, onion and avocado sandwich yummy
-
Have you ever cooked you corn on the cob
in the microwave???
2 ears fully clothed or keep the husks and nuke for 6-7 min.. FANTASTIC and it doesn't shrivel like boiling
just be very careful talking it out, it's hotter than texas and the silks fall off~!~! -
Open up the husk, peel off the silk, reclose, soak in water for a bit and bbq. Those are yummy also.
I've popped corn on the cob in the microwave. Popcorn all over the place. -
I'd like to have seen the look on your face when you opened the microwave
-
i am loving onions lately and think they will be very delicious on the mater sandwich...great idea...
as long as i have had a piece of dirt i have grown my own corn, because when we were kids we would have whole dinners of corn...get the water boiling...run out and pick the corn and throw it in the water...
it is the absolute best and sweetest...
funny, i certainly don't think of myself as old fashioned...but this is a family tradition i have carried forward, it started with my folks and the depression days they grew up in...
love fresh corn...in my salsa...by the spoon...just don't like the way it sticks in my chemo ravaged teeth...
funny story...was at whole foods this morning and they had all kinds of beautiful basil plants out in front...
it was all i could do not to pinch a few leaves for my mater sandwich at lunch...
really like basil these days...chopped up with tomatoes and spread on bruschetta...a little purple onion...a little pinot grigio... i am a happy woman...
i love eating in the summer in sonoma county...
moving to oc soon, but i will find the farmers market...
laura -
What's oc?
We honeymooned in Sonoma. The ragweed did me in, our romantic weekend in a country inn was one big wet kleenex!
The transcript they posted talks about low-fat diet. They said the reduction in risk for more for triple-negatives. Great for triple-negative I guess. -
oc is orange county...
did the garage sale again today...running total over 3,000.
i had always wanted to go into the antique business when i retired...
you know, buy junk sell antiques...well i dipped into my ativan today and it made the sale 9 to 1 very fun...
paid my son to help...
i love it, not, when people say and what is the story on this?
my response being something like, i believe it was given to the last tsarina of russia from her lover rasputin and was made by faberge and i want a dollar for it...
the customer generally responds...will you take a quarter?
ha!...just kidding...but i have hundreds of items left to sell, tomorrow is last day and half price day...it is about getting rid of as much as i can...i want to get to a suitcase and a plane ticket...<g>
no more extra baggage for me... i am going to ride like the wind...with a good kitchen...and wardrobe...and the jewelry...okay i do have a few trappings...
fortunately i have lots of great kids to bestow a lot of my good tast (hah!) on...
rose, tell me what you collect, i will send you a box....serious...
i have been collecting for thirty years and have some great stuff...
laura -
sonoma has ragweed certain times a year, but no freakin bugs...indoor and outdoor living for months and months...love it!
plus i was in the wine business...
good spot...fun biz...
laura -
Shot glasses! And I wonder why my basement is party central for my home-from-college son?
Hope the Avitan didn't impair your ability to make change.
We've got so much stuff from MIL's house, and I want some cash. I think we need to have a sale. How long did it take to get ready for it?
i thought orange county was like the corporate heart of California. Reagan country. -
you gals crack me up, laura I made 40 today I guess my brother tying flies on a table didn't compete with Rasputin! I want that egg!
-
Tell me how folks with kitchen cuboards full of cholestrol lowering drugs can turn around and put cream cheese/artichoke dip out!
Not a vegie in sight in that household.
I think I'm getting the low-fat thing! -
well I finally have good news scale wise, I went back to portion control. I focused on low glycemic index veggies, not being a carrot nazi, just trying to make better choices. And I dropped pounds with Aunt Martha visiting and the holiday!
It is a balance thing, so simple Rose and yet so hard at the same time! -
low glycemic so hard with all the cherries and watermelon around too...
fiber, fiber, fiber...
laura -
fina-frickenly this post makes me an old hand....
amongst my carpal tunnel friends...
yeeehaw...a milestone...
laura -
Congratulations OLD HAND!!
Tina -
laura Congrats! I am just to chatty!
Watermelon is not one of my favs, I overindulged on it as a kid. My kids love it, so one day we buy one and the whole family eats one. It is a lot of fun to watch them with seed spitting contests, my neice is amazing! -
I think watermelon is supposed to have lyposene in it. That's the stuff in tomatos that's good for prostrates.
-
well i hope it does have lyposene in it,,, i do a lypo supplement.
good stuff with sugar... watermelon...i hope..
i just love it, i buy seedless although i have been known to spit a seed a far distance,,,
i would be willing to take on cg niece, anytime....
make my day!
ha ha

laura
