Our "get together to compare colors" might be at ECMC!!!
Hoping all goes well at the 7 am surgery!
I think I'm allergic to Doxy or the new detergent I used in my cleaning frenzy, or hibiclens - or just plain anxious - popped up with hives on my back after first dose of Doxy today! Yikes!!!
Good grief!! SIL who is a RN here with me as well so Benadryl was taken - should be sleeping but for some reason, 😳can't!!
It's been YEARS since I broke out in hives - oh well! -
Catie
Hiblens bothers me and was glad Dr Kline suggested Dial soap. So I've used it for all surgeries so far with Dr K
I'm off this morning to Breast Cancer surgery #9 to remove hematoma. Hard to believe I'd have so many surgeries when DX two years ago I was told only two surgeries and I would be done dealing with BC and return to normal life style. The first surgery, mastectomy, etc. I had tons of support from family and friends. After so many surgeries, I have almost no support because husband and kids say they tired of it and think it's not necessary. Thank God for BC.org!
Just like all of us, I remind myself that thankfully still cancer free! -
So sorry to hear you have to go back in, Pink! I pray Dr. Kline can get you to a good place with the radiated side.
I've started to hear some of the same comments about the extra surgeries being "unnecessary" too and I've only had two so far! Isn't it funny how these comments come from people with ZERO medical knowledge or training? And ZERO personal experience with BC? No worries though, we understand and will never tell you that what you're going through is unnecessary. You can and WILL get through this! -
Thinking of all you ladies in surgery this week. Hope things will be going better for you today after surgery Pink! Take care everyone!
-
Pink, I hope all is ok and you are resting and healing. I am sorry that this has been such a difficult journey.
Catie , I know you are going to be sore but the lipo pain does not last long and just a rainbow of color remainslet us know how you are doing when you are able.
Deidre, you're next! Sending you lots of positive energy to you and hoping that Sharpie has circled all the right places! If not, add your own like I did!
Thinking of you all. -
Hi all,
Have been sitting in traffic near Summervile for quite some time. Finally moving. Do NOT want to miss my mark-up session, LOL. Definite ideas about what fat I should donate.
On a serious note, Pink I hate hearing so much that you had to go back but what a blessing you have a dr smart enought to know it when he sees it ... Will try to get together with you at ECMC. You may be more mobile than me since my surgery isn't until 11:00 tomorrow. There is a baby surgery before mine.
Cathie - I didn't realize last night all that with the hives was going on - you sounded so calm. I am looking forward to bei g across the hall at Homewood from you. I called and made sure they still had it right.
Davey - all I can say is "amen." You are so right. Last time I met with my personnel rep at work she actually had the gall to ask me why I didn't just do something easy like implants ...?! That was wrong in so many different ways (sigh).
Lisa - I wish you'd be here too - I am so serious about the beach. Fall is a good time. How about Fall 2014? Also, thanks for the experienced advice re: lipo - I may just go out and buy a sharpie but won't know until after the appointment.
Cherrie - thanks! Hope your daughter is doing ok and that it was just a big scare.
Thinking of you all. Hugs to you - you make this so much more bearable.
Deidre -
Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers. I have many for you all, too!
Surgery was one hour. The hematoma is gone and most of the swelling gone down. When Dr K comes to see me this afternoon, I will ask if I can Kayak on Saturday.
I will discharge tomorrow.
Catie, I will come by your room tonight or tomorrow morning which ever best for you. So wish I could be at Homewood suites by you all. I do enjoy being at my friends house with nice guest room, just wish Summerville not so far.
Hopefully, I can drive to HS on tuesday to meet you.
Welcome to Charleston Bound, part two for all of you that are new. -
Forgot to say I have one drain. It was slowing down this morning, but now after hematoma surgery it is filling fast. I also woke up this time with a surgery bra on which i think is to support the bandages.
Waiting for Dr K to come give me the details.
So no fat grafting this time and no bruises. That means I can go walk the beach in swimsuit in water up to my knees. -
He just left my room, and waiting for the NO to be yelled down the hallway - you are one crazy lady!!! Kayaking ??! 😘🙆
Room 352 tonight is fine and so is tomorrow - we never run out if things to talk about!
NO fat grafting - worked on making the girls (Yolanda and Zoe) "kissing/cleavage" and removed large portion of paddle! I'm thrilled, November is nipples!!!! Woo double Hoo!!!
Deidre - praying for you big time
We are in 111!!!! DD and SIL soaking up the sunshine at IOP then should be there for dinner.
Also fall of 2014 or Spring 2014 would be wonderful - ill piggyback it to include Dr Baron visit if no Dr Kline needed (Dr Baron being breast onco surgeon)
Hurts to hold cell phone to type - position of IV!
Hugs all,
Let the party begin and pass the IV stand! -
Cathie and Pink, sounds like things are on the right track now. So glad to hear it.
Managed to get to the marking appt only a couple of minutes late. Dr K was in a great mood and thought it was great some of us were recouperating near each other. Then went to EC to do pre-op testing and checked into Homewood.
Cathie - we're in 111 right now but DH wanted to move to 113 tomorrow night so we'll almost be next door to you, with a view of the pool.
Lisa - LOL I actually DO have a Sharpie as the nurse at EC thought I should have it in case something came off in the shower ... Made me laugh thinking of you adding a couple of spots!
Now to the grocery and an early dinner since we totally missed lunch.
See y'all soon. Pink - I think if you keep coming here you may be in danger of developing an accent. Maybe you'll even start saying "y'all." Then you'll have to stay.
Deidre -
Pink, glad your surgery was a success!
To all the ones going this week: Good luck! I'm sure everything will be well. I wish I could join you! Sept 6 for me though.
Just to update since I'd mentioned it on this site....the arimidex beat me. I called the onco and talked to the nurse. I told her I could not take this anymore. Bone/muscle pain, mood changes (a rarity for me), insomnia, and an overabundance of hot flashes. I counted 19 yesterday. Only 3 today. I've been on it a month, and I was having good & bad days, then this week has been all bad days. Onco said to take tamoxifen until I came back and he'd switch me to femara. I'm not going to take anything for a few days and make sure this devil/satanic medicine is out of me!!
-
Pink,
Glad you are doing better. I love Summerville! We moved there right after I go married and my two girls were born there.
Think I'll try the Dial Soap. Thanks for the tip.
I know what you guys mean about people being "tired" of our issue. I can't reaaly talk about it to anyone anymore except the girls here. everyone seems to have run out of patience with me. I wish we could meet but it looks like I'm the only one the end of July.
Best wishes your way!
-
I had to check-in and make sure everyone is doing okay. It sounds like this is a good week for all the Charleston ladies. Pinkheart- I hope the drain comes out soon. I'm jealous that you had Joan as one of your nurses. She was so wonderful during my surgery in December. Catie2013-great about the no fat grafting. Even though the compression garment makes me feel thinner, I can't wait to get out of it. Sewaneegirl- wishing the best for you tomorrow.
Take care-
Sandi
-
Thanks much, Sandi feels so good to not have donor site incisions!
Now to get some sleep!!!
Hugs and prayers to next up, Sewanee and fun to see you in person, Pink!!!! -
Sewanee,
Good luck tomorrow. I promise not to get another hematoma and bump you to later time in OR like I did to Catie.
Feel so much better with hematoma surgically removed! -
You awake too, Pink?
-
I hope not, Pink. I already got bumped by a baby, LOL. Tho I can't complain because I am always glad to see someone help a cleft palate child. Just glad you're ok now and that the hematoma happened while u were in the hospital and not out in Summerville.
Cathie - DH on his own elected to move us to room 119 because HE felt the "door slammed too loudly" near where my bed would be... Proudly told me after the fact! Same hall - just down a bit. I was rather annoyed tho.
Deidre -
No worries - will be okay!
Pink and I started the pj/hospital gown party last night and toasted with cranberry juice ! Too funny as the nurses kept saying we made their work easier for them by being in the same room while doing our visiting. The RN even went down to my room to bring me a bottle of my water so I could take my antibiotic and another med!!!
Praying for a very easy surgery for you!
Hugs
Catie -
Pink, hope you are doing well!!!
Prayers for you and Sewannee!
Hoping to get us all together soon! -
Thanks. Am in Room 355 here at ECMC. Feeling a bit faint.
Deidre -
Diedre,
I'm right next door. I'm on third night here, and looking blaaah. Want to take a shower but no blow dryer.
I will discharge around 6 pm tomorrow night. Do you mind if i stop by in afternoon? -
Would love to see you but sooner rather than later - not sure if I discharge tomorrow or what time - do come by.
-
D,
I'll stop in before lunch.
Physical therapist is coming to work on me at way too early 7 am!
Off to interrupted hospital sleep -
I am drinking so much water that an uninterupted night mght be impossible. Determmined to get the anesthesia out of me asap!!! My face is flush and a bit swollen, but feet so far arent! Maybe they didn't give me that much???LOL
Best to both of you, Pink, I loved our chats!!!! Painless dreams, ladies! -
Finally discharging this evening.
Dr Kline just came by with SpiderBoy. His little boy had on spiderman costume today. So cute!
PT worked on me good this morning. Demerol helping pain.
I will have a post op with Dr K on Tuesday. Hope to lose the drain. That's Drain # 17 ! -
Pink -hope you feel better soon and Catie, hope its smooth sailing.
Prayers for you both -
Pink and Diedre- phone connection not good - could be the phones or the little grandkids in the background - the room seemed big when it was just my DIL and me, but with the 3 little ones and parents - seems smaller?!😏
I offered to babysit before SIL leaves for home tomorrow (to get on his good graces).
I was so fearful on Wed night when I had the reaction to Doxy, that they might cancel the surgery the next day because of the hives/rash. That has been the hardest part of this surgery - the worry! All work was done on the breasts/flaps and while they still hurt, my DD said they were looking very nice! Whew!'
Thanks CRS hope you are doing better too,
Hugs
Catie -
So, the kids and DD and SIL are at the ocean, the sky is blue with pretty white fluffy clouds and I have the room to myself! YEAH!!! Love them to pieces but I got so tired even though I was just watching them watch a movie (or 3). I was happy to stay back, take a nice shower, inspect the merchandise and relax.
The new girls are looking more and more alike and I think once I have some fat grafting done to make them fill out on the top more I will really be pleased. I don't know much about fat grafting, think what was done on stage 2a was just a tiny bit and not sure why, will ask him, but NO fat grafting this time at all. Revised the football paddle, removed some excess skin part of PAP flap and did something else. Too groggy to ask after and to groggy to remember if i did ask.
I was there early but there was another person who needed my Dr. more than I did, so had a bit of a wait - so I was aware that I had 3 shots of Versed - was told that usually they give all 3 at the same time, but that the nurse I had didn't like to do that. i think I got a smaller dose this time because of the wait. Either way, I don't remember a thing past the last shot, and from the time she gave me the first - it was all good, no worrying or fretting, or concern past trying to decide if I wanted to keep my eyes open or not!
And, right now I want to keep them shut so shall end and nap - until the kiddos come back!!! Good thing they have a fairly early bedtime. BTW, they were the same crew that came with me in January. DD knew I rented a hotel room, Homewood Suites, but the kiddos still imagined us being in the big condo! A bit disappointed when they saw only one bedroom!!! They thought the living room was a living room, and that each door held a bedroom!!! Too funny! Poor kids! We all laughed when they weren't around!
Can't wait for our Dr. Kline-athon (Sewanee, Pinkheart) get together, We truly have to do it again (without surgery or with surgery wrapped around some of the time). Charleston is such a neat place.
Hugs and sleep tight -
Oh, another thing to pack - Benadryl!!! I didn't pack any this time (always bring some in case of an allergic reaction to anything - but it had expired before I opened the last bottle I had, so I threw it out) but sure wish I had. I had some Somenix with me, though, and I looked up the ingredients and it seems like it is Benadryl just packaged for help with sleeping. Good thing I brought it, because even though I have taken Doxycycline for the last year on and off with all of these surgeries, I reacted to taking the 'day before surgery' morning dose with large neon pink hives!!! My back, my shoulder, my chest (yes - my chest)!!! My daughter said they were neon pink because my skin is pasty white!!! Now, couldn't she have said ' ivory' or 'very fair' - pasty white!!!!!
Anyway, just in case you become allergic to something the day before surgery and are in the hotel before you notice it - Benadryl. I called Dr. K, he told me to nix the Doxy and he'd see me in the a.m.
The whole thing threw my game off, as I had no clue something I'd taken so often would decide it didn't like me! Who would know? But thought I'd pass on the tip - just in case.
Hugs and now I really am going to take at least a 10 minute power nap! -
Just checking in on you surgical girls---glad to hear everything is going well for all. Those ECMC nurses rock, at least the DIEP ones!
I'm going to brag on my son a bit. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but lost my aunt who we both were close to a year prior to my dx. A few months later, my son lost his step-mother. Both had BC. SO he was a bit devasted with my dx, but has been rock solid in support for me. ANyway, he's taken up BC research support as a goal...if it's pink, got a ribbon, donates to BC research...that boy is on it. He wants a pink ribbon tattoo with my name in the middle and my and and his step-mother on the ribbon--I'm not a tattoo fan, so I'm discouraging another one for him. Anyway, tonight, he went to Hooters for a breast cancer function and texted a pic of a huge MAC TOOLS tool chest. He won it in a raffle. He was tickled, mama is proud, but he won't give it to me!
