Hi Ladies,
I just read through most of the post. Sounds like everyone is doing good. Thank heavens.
Dakota- "You go girl" I'm so glad you are doing so well.
Traii- What the heck did I miss? You have a surgery date? You might have already had it..
This is just a short note to say hello to my "Warrior Sisters"
Love you all,
Carla
-
Traii, wonderful to hear from you and so glad you're having minimal pain so far - hope that continues. When will you DS be visiting you?
-
Congratulations Traii, sounds like you are doing good!
Nihahi, I saw Abby and Wendy C yesterday when I was at the Foot. Just missed Ade, sadly. I was there with an infection in my arm, which is a poo! Bloody Hell! as Ade would say!
Antibiotics are starting to work, I think. Should feel way better in a day or two.
Hi everybody! Ooh Thunderstorm is LOUD just now. Better check no rain is coming in ..... Of course, its first day of Stampede!! YAHOO!!!! -
Hey Morwenna.....what the H***! you don't need an infection!!! I'm blaming the mozzies. Ade is a hard one to catch
! She's thinking of hiking up in Canmore this weekend, but wants to get started at an ungodly hour, so I'm probably going to take a pass. Yeup, sky looks pretty black towards Calgary.....we do NOT need more rain!Traii....any idea when you are getting discharged?
-
Ok so I guess I missed the whole surgery.. Traii I'm thinking about you..
Carla -
YAYYYY Traii! So glad it's over! Now you rest and heal up well, okay?
-
Dear ladies......have not been free to post until now........

. Best wishes for a SPEEDY recovery.......you are young-you've got this!
Morwenna, have you seen the Cat Diaries video? Hilarious......I will provide a link tomorrow......
Everyone else...sending hugs and love to ALL.......XO
Namaste and God bless - Jackie -
Past midnight here, waiting for more sleepover guests to arrive.
Traii, your bum cheek comment made me smile - that wonderful sense of humour still shines through. Looking forward to reading more of your adventures in hospital - lol.
Good night ladies, and sleep well!
-
Hi Gotgeous Girls,
from sunny Merseyside, we are all in shock at this big yellow thing in the sky !!
This is probably our summer so frantic buying in stores of BBQ's paddling pools etc. Must look out some tee shirts and cropped pants from the attic lol.Traii, hope your botty not too sore
before you know it you will be home and then you MUST take it easy. Let the family spoil you, bet DS is being a good boy for your Mum and Dad.Liefie, hope you have a good sleep you must be knackered with all the cooking, good job you are an amazing chef.
Nihahi, hope the thunderstorm didnt hit. Our weather gone to you, sorry.
DH has been diagnosed with arthritis in his fingers probably made worse by guitar playing for 50 years. His cholestrol borderline so now watching diet more closely. Told him not bad getting to almost 67 before problems start. Now he wants a bike !! for excercise, that won't last lol.
Hope you ALL well xx
-
Hey gorgeous girls,
had a good day..ds came visiting, with my parents, hubby, brother and SIL.
Docs said I looked great, healing well and was amazed i didnt use the pain button to get pain relief. Honestly still today my bum cheeks arw sore more apart from upper body feeling tight.
Discharged tomorrow providing all goes well and may loose one of the drains too!!
hope everyone is doing well. Xx -
Traii you are flippin amazeballs !!!! So glad you are still good except for the bum cheeks
get DH to sit his Princess on a soft pillow and feed you choccies. Hope drain does come out but even if it doesnt you will cope.
Thanks for keeping us up to date, gentle hugs from Cyber Mummy xxxx -
Traii....you're sounding awesome, girl!!!! I'm so glad you're not having that much pain, but IF YOU ARE, don't be silly and not use the button....there are no medals for bravery, and your body heals faster if it's not stressed.
Bet you loved seeing your son, but found it hard not to go home with him. Crossing fingers and toes here that one drain comes out (if it's ready), but, if not, they are doable at home, just a pain to bother with as it makes you still feel like a patient. How are you feeling about the new girls so far??? Isn't it a good feeling to know it is all behind you now!!!
Crazy weather.....Edi..glad you've finally got some sunshine...could you send a "little" back here. 2 days ago it was 35, this morning, it's 10....seriously!!!!! More rain last night and raining again this morning....it's mozzie heaven around here!
Liefie....are you running a bed and breakfast out there????? Now who's coming?????
Morwenna....hope that infection is clearing up...how did it start, for goodness sake?!
Movie...you are one busy lady! Hope you're having fun with the new wheels.
Benny, Websister, Dakota, Maria, Jennie, Carla, Caitlin...thinking of you.
Alive....are you????
Have good days, ladies

Traii TROOPER - our new name for you! With the DIEP surgery I refused the morphine pump when anaesthetist offered it because I know from previous experience I never feel that much pain, nothing that ordinary painkillers cannot take care of. I'm sure you will be off those within a week. Are we lucky or what? Those heavy painkillers cause serious constipation which you can do without. Tightness is what I felt too, not pain. As soon as you can move about a little those bumcheeks will feel better. So happy that everything is going so well for you. Relax, and let them take care of you, eh?
Edi, I slept well, thanks. Whole house still sleeping, and I'm up already. Sorry to hear about DH's arthritis and borderline cholesterol - he sounds pretty healthy for 67, really. Enjoy your summer while it lasts - lol! DIL is very good at helping me, so not knackered. She is eager to learn, quick and competent. We are in holiday mode, so mostly barbecuing. Yesterday she wrestled the vacuum cleaner away from me, would not hear of me doing it, and vacuumed the house top to bottom, all with a smile. DS really struck gold with that one.
Nihahi, kids studied in Victoria, so a few of their old friends came up to see them. Often had a house full of boys over weekends in summers past - lol. Have not seen them yet, because I was asleep already when they arrived late last night.
It is already hot at 6.45 in the morning here. Not a cloud in sight anywhere, sun beating down. Today is going to be a scorcher. We've all been invited to a beach party starting at three this afternoon - hope there is enough shade and cold drinks - lol. Oh well, can always jump in the lake to cool off.

Nihahi,
I'm not sure exactly how the infection started. I noticed pain and swelling in my arm after the Canada Day parade at Heritage Park. From mid upper arm down my forearm on the antero-medial aspect, and my hand was a bit puffy.
I had this a couple of weeks ago after helping a friend plant her veggie garden (no heavy digging), and also after washing those photos for a couple of hours. I assumed it was something to do with the arm being dependent.
Anyway, this time it didn't really ease, but felt tight, similar to cording when I was stretching. On Tuesday night I thought there was a bit of a pink line, but in the morning couldn't see it. On Weds I got a few mosquito bites on the back of the upper arm, (through my clothes!), and on Weds night the red line down the ant-med aspect was quite obvious, even my DH could see it.
By morning it was clear from just below axilla to mid forearm. Naturally the guys I saw at the hospital are relating it to the bites, but I'm convinced it started before that. To me it looks and feels like a superficial phlebitis, like I had in my leg in February.
Today the redness is far less obvious, but slightly pink over a wider area, and the top 1/2 of my forearm is still warm and swollen, though not massively. I have 10 days of Cephalex, which I'm sure won't hurt, whatever the cause. And I have an appt at the LE clinic on Friday.
It itches slightly, not that I'd want to scratch it, but is only painful if I fully extend my elbow. I don't know. I could certainly have done without it, and I'm a bit concerned about rads starting later this month.
I have a watercolour class at wellspring this morning. That'll take my mind off it!
-
Trail - good girl !!!!glad ur doing do well.
At a baseball tournament and its 95 degrees !!!! So hot!!
I will check back in if I am still standing. -
Traii, so good to hear from you!!Everything went well as planned, and you'll be home in no time. I'll bet DS missed you but peace of mind that he's in good hands.
Dakota, make sure you're drinking lots of water in that heat. It doesn't take long to get dehydrated.
DEBBIE DOWNER ALERT >>>>>>> It has been 5 months since my last chemo (Feb 7) and over 1 month since my last radiation appointment (May 24) and I feel weaker than ever. Is this normal? I just got back from Safeway and had to sit down in the aisle. I am still drinking my Boost (average two a day) and trying to eat well (altho' there's been a few episodes of Creme Brulee ice cream). I finally have an appointment at lymphadema clinic July 15, then an appointment with oncologist July 18 for follow up. But is it normal to STILL be THIS fatigued? It's kind of a lung/windpower fatigue, but strength-wise I'm not great either. I have to go back to work pretty soon and at this rate there's no way I can do it. Still can't eat scratchy stuff like popcorn or bread. It just seems to me that things should be healing better by now.

Benny....you seem to have lots of energy for the stuff you love, aka working at the stables, but seem to struggle with the everyday energy. Maybe it's a matter of pacing yourself so you have enough energy reserves to handle both parts of life? A little less time at the farm, a little more time doing the types of things the are like a more basic, normal day? I know.....not the balance you prefer, but maybe more realistic. It could be low iron, it could be you need to tweak your vegan diet to compensate for what your body has been through, could be thyroid related....... it could also be a sign of depression. Be very up front and honest when you see your onc. I remember very well, the endless months of overwhelming fatigue for months and months after my chemo, and I never went through rads. After falling apart at a family doc appt., we realized I was depressed, got on some meds for awhile.....made a world of difference. Have been off the antidepressants for years now.
-
Nihahi, I haven't been going out to the farm. I think I've been out there once in the past two weeks. My housework is getting behind, I just about keeled over mowing the lawn. Had to lie down afterwards. I'm quite certain there's some depression in there tho' as have lost interest in things I love. I bought some multivitamins so will try that, and yes, will be honest with doc on July 18. I am just so incredibly tired. I also picked up some kale because I read that is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet so going to make a kale salad tonight. It looks awful but I'm going to stuff it down anyway.
-
oooh, Benny, sorry, I thought you were doing more "farm stuff"!!!! You defo have something going on that needs sorting out...that's no way to be feeling, and certainly doesn't sound safe for you either!!! The heat we've been having recently along with the humidity sure wouldn't help. Can I help????? You know I would!!!!!!
Housework..pfft. Good luck on the kale....not a fave around here.
-
Thanks for offering to help but not much can be done. I'm quite scared and of course I am thinking that the cancer has spread to my lungs and I'm done for. I so desperately want to feel better and everyone has been telling me that I will, but it's not happening. I'm actually weaker than ever.
-
Hi,
I have always been a runner-low blood pressure, great cardio capacity. It took me a long time to stop feeling short of breath and tired after chemo. And, just to let you know, I am 2 1/2 years post chemo and my red count is still not in the normal range. I assume this low count is my new normal. The comeback is a long process...
One day at a time...
Stacey -
Hi Stacey, thanks for the response. I was a runner for most of my life too, and have low blood pressure. I resent not having the energy to do things that give quality to my life. The waiting for better health and energy seems like a carrot that keeps dangling out of my reach, and getting further and further away. I don't wait well. I'm even using an inhaler to help me not feel so breathless. Anyway, thanks for the response. It's good to get a reminder that I'm not the only one feeling this way.
-
Traii, I hope you are doing well.....big hugs....
-
Benny, I was fit and strong when I was diagnosed with bc. It took me 4 months PFC before I had the energy to go back to the gym in Sept. 2012. Then I started with 20 minutes of strength training with 3 lb weights three times a week. That was all I could do. On the days in between I walked for 30 minutes or so. Slowly my strength came back to where I was doing an hour of strength training three times a week with 7lb weights, and I could walk/run for about 45 - 60 min. at a time. I also did water aerobics twice a week as well as yoga. This is where I was before DIEP surgery 7 weeks ago, exactly one year after chemo ended. You are just too hasty. Cut yourself some slack, and give yourself way more time. I remember that sudden breathless feeling all too well where you have to sit down, but as I became stronger, it gradually faded away. It is what it is, and nothing will hurry this along no matter what you do or how impatient you are. It takes its own time, and it is better to accept what you can and can't do instead of wasting your precious energy agonizing over it.
Was going back to the gym on Monday. Then on my way down the stairs to the lake this afternoon, I twisted my left ankle, and fell on my right knee. Ankle is swollen a little, and knee is minus skin. DH was right next to me, but was too slow to grab me - lol. Supposed to play organ tomorrow, but no way can play footpedals with the sore ankle. Piano will have to do. Fortunately I did not fall on my head - LOL.
-
Hi gals,
Happy belated 4th to all my American sisters.
Traii I hope you are fairing well let us know how you are.
Dakota yeah for nipples. Can't wait for that day.
Edi did I miss another cake picture? I love them.
Edi and Nihahi thanks for the pep talk you all make this so much easier with your words.
-
Benny, now for the stern lecture from Merseyside. !! Not that long ago you werent eating, had horrid se's and had been through chemo which made you soooo ill, the sisters are right you must give your body a chance to recover.
We all want our old lives back but must be kind to ourselves and do a little then rest, I too am convinced it hasn't gone and will appear somewhere else very soon, again normal, my friend is 2 years out and every ache is cause for panic we now try and make light of how we feel as we are going to ruin what time we may have left by wallowing in doom and gloom.
No one knows how much time we have left but I am sure YOU WILL be here many years from now, housework for instance is something that gets done here when nothing better to do
friends come to see YOU not how your home looks.
As for the lawn, surely there is someone ie. fit young man who will help a damsel in distress, we have volunteers at hospital who will do things like this, make enquiries.
There are lots of things I can't swallow still too, fries, chips, brown bread, kill me ! burning pipes still flare up even now.I stick to bland foods but feel better for putting half a stone back on up to now.Lecture over, remember we ALL love you and need you, you got us all together on here so don't you dare give up on us now.

Maria, can't post pics at the moment, don't know how to on this laptop

Liefie, you need to take more care of yourself ! Poor you. Glad you are getting lots of help from your visitors.
Traii hope you are home ?
Nihahi, your weather is MAD, hot here again, DH and I had a BBQ yesterday, first one for well over a year. Sat in garden until mid evening.
ED remo back on track, kitchen almost useable.
She has started on her 150 foot long back yard.
After builders it is a mess. She could have a herd of cows out there and you wouldn't notice them.Mowenna, hope your infection responding to treatment.
Watching America's got talent. Young man dressed as a Goth came out and sang like a Soprano !!!!
Excitment building here as the birth of Prince William and Kate's baby comes nearer.
Party time. yayCoffee time, wonderful Sunday everyone. xx
-
Benny, as you know we are in the same time frame, very close, and you might remember me whining right here not long ago about pretty much the same thing. And being told that yes, it's quite normal and yes, it sucks and yes, go right ahead and vent all you want because we all get it!
It's just so hard when the active treatments are over, your hair is growing back, everyone around us seems to have the attitude that oh, it's over now, you can go back to your life like nothing happened. And it doesn't help that the docs don't warn us that it will take much longer to recover than we think.
Hang in there, big hugs, I promise that eventually we WILL feel better!
