Retail Therapy

That is funny bobogirl! You crack me up. I did already clean the floors before coming back to read this post-dang! next time. haha.
Love the comments about the non-housekeeping, and it is great to know I am not alone on the slacking.
I started the marinara to make a lasagna, my specialty. Wish you gals could join us! -
Just got home from a little trip to see my sis. Not sure if I used the cancer card....but just used the new cancer courage. Never used to be brave enough to drive that far without DH. Never went on a vacay without several weeks of glorious planning. But life is short!!! Decided to go on Sunday afternoon. Worked Monday/Tuesday. Left Wednesday morning. Lol. We had a great time!!! She thinks my new boobs are huge. (They are, but I don't need her to tell me so. Ugh.)
-
Way to go Dulcigirl. How far was the drive? I just did a 5-hr drive alone, and felt so -- independent. My DH didn't approve at first, but I promised to take breaks. And there was a Tanger Outlet along the way, so, bonus.
-
You GO girls! Awesome. I love the courage. Funny, I hope we all have another 60 years or so, but I also have that "life is way too short to not do what I want" feeling. That mst be the cancer courage huh?
Yay to brave new adventures!! -
My drive was 8 hours! I'm so proud of myself! I even took a different route coming home and showed my daughter where I grew up.
For me it's a combo of cancer courage AND the decision to stop waiting for the "perfect" time to do things...or waiting for other people. If it's a good thing and I can afford the cost, then I'm doing it.
See? I didn't just get new boobs! "The Wizard" gave me a heart and courage, too!!!
(Now I just need to work on finding my brain...) -
Road trip with your daughter- wonderful. Good for you!!!
-
8 hours is very courageous, Dulcigirl.
I second sciencegal's comments!
Let me know if you find your brain. "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most." -
Haha! My doc said "chemo brain" is largely because we have to put in so much new info about cancer that we lose some of the old stuff. "jars on the shelf theory"
- put new jars on one end and some slide off the other end. But it seems physiological as well.
As far as retail therapy this is kind of a good thing; I have not been shopping but have been doing some serious cleaning and found some stuff that I had forgotten- it kind of counts: new to me! -
Roflmao - Perfect solution to all of this anxiety & depression ... Thank you!!!!
-
Well, sciencegal, I have picked up where you left off.
We are moving house soon, and so I will do that shopping-because-I-found-something activity soon. Meantime, I have three EF packages in my office -- they just arrived. Will open them between classes...
-
Sciencegal - I've been shopping the closet too. Found in my cedar armoire a pair of cute black patent strappy sandals I bought at least 2 summers ago. Dressy, church type which is what I have the hardest time buying for this old lady. Forgot about last summer since I went to church sporadically. They fit! Need to do more of this closet shopping. What would help would be if I lost at least 10# to start with. Have a whole closet end in DD's room of scrubs I hope to never wear again. But can't get rid of them in case I do.
edited for spelling
-
Love the closet shopping! I need to do more, have been working too much these past few days. Yay on the sandals, luvmygoats.
Bobogirl I cant believe you are moving during all this. To somewhere that you can have your container house in the future I hope?
Anyrhing fun in your packages? -
Sciencegal, we're just moving into town, closer to my daughter's special school. Renting. So my dream of a container house remains intact! Luvmygoats, have been thinking... we have a friend who lives five miles from the school... still in town.. but he has a little farm! A 'pile,' we call it. And he has a beehive, and chickens. Maybe when we buy here, we will buy near there, so I can have a goat! Please tell me some cute goat stories.
Scienceg, my EF packages were excellent. They were having a sale. Free shipping, plus 25 dollars off coupon, and they were letting us order more than once with the coupon (thus the multiple packages). I basically got an entire 'capsule wardrobe' -- camis, a skirt, two beautiful scarves, and a necklace made in India -- beads wrapped in silk. Ordered this treat the day of a horrible biopsy to cheer myself up! XXX
-
Most awesome, thank you for sharing the contents of your packages! If I am not going to get out to the stores right now (so busy at work) I should really do some online shopping.
More than just the emu oil and miaderm lotion for radiation - not too exciting!
Good luck packing, I hope you at least find some stuff you have forgotten about like I did cleaning our guest room. Closet shopping! -
Closet shopping! But really, what I most look forward to is... throwing things away!
-
OK ladies. I just have to share my first purchase using the cancer card.
My sister said, "Those are so not you, but really cute." My partner said the same thing.
It's true. I'd never buy these because the heel is about 5". They're not hard to walk in because of the platform, but at 4'10", wearing heels that high looks like I hate being short. I don't.
My max is usually 3". Plus, I usually get black or brown shoes. Nothing bright and colorful like these. I fell in love with the colors, and they were on sale at 6pm.com. I went for it. I have no idea what I'll wear them with, but yay me. Haha
-
I wholly approve of this excellent purchase.
-
Awesome shoes- thank you SO much for sharing those, they make me smile!! What you can wear them with is ......Attitude!!!
Love 'em -
Ooo!!! Cool shoes!!
I still don't know what to wear my heels with either, but I love sciencegal's suggestion:
ATTITUDE!!!
:-) -
GlobalGirlyGirl, I think we have very similar shoes!! I got these from 6pm too. Yay for you!!!!! Aren't they wonderful? I wear these all the time. They are very comfortable and I wish you lots of happy dancing moments in yours. I took a pic of mine so I could show off my "Stars and Stripes" pedicure. Happy Fourth of July everyone, thank you for sharing your retail therapy with me!
-
Happy fourth to you too Michelle! And to everyone.
SO, speaking of shoes, today I just decided to randomly wear my new "fun" shoes that I bought in the Florida Keys at a swimsuit shop to my appointments to help cheer up the other patients, the hospital staff, and myself.
I had a blood draw, muga, Dr.s visit, radiation, and then herceptin infusion, and lunch in the hospital cafeteria. So plenty of time to spread the joy of these crazy shoes.
I hadnt managed to wear them yet and they were definitely retail therapy. I think they are hostess shoes for a fancy pool party. They are comfy silver slip-ons with a two inch heel and COVERED in little tiny rhinestones. I mean, put your eyes out disco ball rhinestones.
I had hoop earrings to match, couldn't have that much bling on my feet without balancing.
I wish I was smart enough to post a picture, but alas, not so much.
Anyway they were quite the conversation piece in all the waiting rooms and my favorite comment was from a nice older man who said, "what fabulous Cinderella shoes".
Gotta keep it fun where we can, right?? I'm trying!
Happy fourth to all. -
Hi-Ho Silver!!! :-)
-
Love the shoes! Its my first time posting here but I LOVE retail therapy! It has been my favorite thing to do during my treatments. Had chemo #5 of 6 yesterday and went straight to the mall afterwards and bought some cobalt blue dress shorts, a black tee with zippers on the shoulders and matching jewelery! Wore it today to my kids swim classes. Its the little things that get us through this horrible disease!
-
You are darn right shoppygirl! Love your webname.
Cobalt blue is my favorite color, (with sea blue a close second) - your new outfit sounds great! -
Thanks Sciencegal, my husband made it up for me!! It is quite fitting!
-
I remember being told that whenever my grandmother was upset, she would go out and shop for a new hat. This was back in the early 1900s when hats were a necessity for a "well-dressed" woman and many owned dozens of them. Wish I had those old hats now.
Carol
-
Hi Carol- maybe in this day and age - online shopping for a new hat?? You deserve it, after all you have been through!!!
And a nice wide-brimmed hat can keep the sun off of us during radiation, as an added bonus.
I had to get some more emu oil on amazon for my radiation treatments today and so I threw in two CDs and a book, using my cancer card of course. Love that amazon prime account with free shipping since I use it ALL the time!
Happy 4th everyone -
It's always fun to read about all of your Retail Therapy treatments, and to see your pics - great shoes, GlobalGirlyGirl!!.
sciencegal, if your pictures are hosted on another site, like Photobucket or Flickr, or Facebook, you should be able to post them here if you're posting from a computer. So far, posting pics isn't possible from phones and tablets. What problem are you having with picture posting?
-
Hey mods! I can't post pics either. I think it is because I do not have Facebook. But I didn't jump on to tell you that... actually, I jumped on to tell you that I love you, moderators! You are so helpful, and supportive, and protective of all of us. I feel grateful for you quite often.
{{{{{moderators}}}}}
-
I agree Bobogirl- yay moderators!!! This site is totally my support group since I have had to hide the fact that I have breast cancer (competitive business/field). I have learned SO much here and it seems like every SE and other problem we have, someone else has lived through it and has a tip to help. So THANK you for all you do.
You guys rock!
I dont have any of those fancy sites, my world revolves around PubMed, not facebook, and I am using an Asus notebook. I had tried to copy and paste but that's it. I guess I could set up a flickr account, would love to share my "cinderella shoes" with the group! Bling city.
Thank you SO much. You are appreciated!
