GMA04-There's a very good video on cold caps on ABC news..http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/video/cold-cap-save-hair-chemo-11991988..I think, if Im remembering right, they are around 1500.00.

Hi all
Rain; my hair has gone.. It was fine until day 14, then strands everywhere, the car was covered in them, my pillow, food and my kids...
So cut it off in one go; have wig, it is fine although my 8 year old says it looks evil...
Have put a funky cap on top; luckily it's winter here in aus.. Good luck with cold caps if you try them GMa04.. Wish I had....
Good luck with second round Rain.
Dlm- stay strong..
ckmoss- I feel emotional too, trying to stay strong for my kids..
Everyone else; thanks for all tips and Melrose thanks for advice..
My next round is on Monday... The half way mark woo hoo x -
Got my starting date !! They want me to do the first chemo in the hospital due to some sensativity to drugs !!! Thursday the 27th. Today I feel ready but tomorrow is a different story, the up and down emotions are exhausting!!! Ordered my wig too. With starting on the 27th puts me at the 11th for my second treatment and the 13 is my son's graduation party
Where can I find the shopping list of what is needed "just in case" !! You are all so great !!
-
Rain, you and me go for round two of our AC tomorrow. Anyone else in the infusion chair with us? I'm feeling good and ready to go with my new prescriptions. Really appreciate all the wisdom and kind words on this thread. Helps to have a place to come to and talk about this stuff.
Today I made a vegetable soup (carrots, onions, celery, potatoes, spring onions) and pureed it. A few containers in the freezer ready to go for next week. Tonight I'm making a luxurious creamy chicken pasta with fresh herbs and parmiganio reggiano. Will serve with a simple salad and baguette. Can you tell I comfort with food? Want to enjoy some 'good eats' before round two. Oh, sorry if food talk is not a good fit for some of you now. I'll keep it to a minimum.
Good wishes to everyone.
-
@ckmoss-
I had my port placed last Wednesday, one week ago, and had minimum pain. My arm ached a little, but nothing too bad.
Everyone is different. Take care -
Good luck Rain and Ocean tomorrow!
IngridJ - I'm on day 15 and still waiting for hair to fall out, maybe tomorrow! -
Gma04, I will be keeping in touch for sure. I have not looked into the cold caps, at this point I am not overly concerned with loosing my hair, it is very short anyway, hope I don't change my mind, when it's too late. I have already ordered a bunch of hats and scarves. Do you have a specific date to start yet? Hopefully they will give me a date at my appointment next Wednesday. Hugs to you too and keep us posted. ---- Susan

Re: Prilosec. I just got some. Do you take it every day? Or just for a few days until things seem settled? Is it bad to take it continuously long term?
-
Re; nausea. My nausea started about an hour after I got home from first chemo - I vomited about 6 hours later, and intermittently for the next 3 days. I should have taken the anti-nausea medicine right away. Still feeling queasy - poor appetite - burning in stomach - taking prilosec tomorrow - had used zantac for a few days, which helped some... tonight I had some crystallized ginger which is helping. It is now day 6 after chemo.
-
Rose- sorry!!! I take Prilosec daily. 2x a day. That's all i take and a Claritin. I hope u feel better!!!
-
Hi! New to the forum, I started my chemo on June 11 -will have four rounds of AC and four rounds of Taxol; dose dense every 2 wks. Had a lot of stomach issues - taking Prilosec and Zofran and Compazine when need. Had the Nuelasta shot next day and am bummed to say that when I went yesterday for my blood work my Onc said my blood levels "were in the basement"... LOL- very low! So I have to stay away from all raw foods - fruits, veggies, luncheon meats, etc. Seriously, after the 1st treatment?! Just don't want to go next week and find they haven't improved enough for me to get my next treatment on time!
-
Flaviarose - the nurse told me to take nausea meds at the first sign of any nausea, once it starts it is hard to get it under control - hopefully better luck next time.
Robin-Lynn - welcome and sorry to hear your first infusion didn't go so well. Hopefully that will get sorted out soon. -
Same here. Day 12 and still have my hair. Good luck to those going in for infusions tomorrow.
-
Ocean Warrior- I am so impressed that you feel up to cooking! The recipes you talked about sound wonderful! It's funny, though, I am definitely experiencing the weird taste issues. Things that you would normally love or think would taste great end up tasting bitter or like cardboard or like metal.
Luckily I haven't had much nausea- day 6 today- but I hate that I don't like the taste of most foods anymore. Seems that sweet things still taste pretty normal, but other things taste weird. Tried a sandwich wrap today and it tasted like yuk. But the potato salad and pickle were awesome.
Now I know why lots of people gave me lozenges of some sort before chemo- lemon drops, ginger, anything to get that taste out of your mouth. I can feel stuff going on on the inside of my mouth- like some of the skin cells are having trouble- hope I can keep the mouth sores away.
I will say that day 5 and 6 were definite improvements for me. Wait- is chemo day considered day 1 or day 0? I was considering it day 1.
Started having what I think we're calling the little c for constipation... feels like I have a bunch of gravel in my guts. It passes, but verrrrrryyyyyy slowwwwwwwly.
Port still a pain- docs bandaged it up again and want to keep it covered for a couple of days and see if the scab goes away.
Hope everyone has a good nights sleep with lots of sweet dreams.
-
Day 2, felt much better today than yesterday. I'm not used to needing so much rest. So far so good tho. Still waiting to get hit by that truck. I keep my hair short but my sister-in-law cut it even shorter for me today. I took a compazine tonight but I'm a liitle concerned about side effects of that. Anybody have any? I'd never heard of no fresh fruits and vegetables...I'll be in trouble! Colace is already my friend!
Good luck to those in the chair tomorrow. Wishing minimal SE's for everybody. -
Gingergirl; hope hair stays...
Ocean; your cooking sounds delicious..
Maureen; prunes help..!!!
I have a cold, hoping doesn't delay chemo on Monday..
Robin-Lynn hope your tummy settles down.. No fun on top of everything else..:( -
Today day 7 feel like a human again. I cooked my first meal yesterday. Made vegetable soup and homemade egg rolls. I actually haven't taken any meds except prilosec and now I'm on antibiotics for an ear infection. I ate so much yesterday because I smoked some weed. It really helped me so much. Now I'm going to become a pothead lop. I asked my onco and they said it had to be hydro(grown in water) because regular weed can give you a fungus in your lungs. Rain good luck today. My onco doesn't check my counts till day of infusion. Wonder if it should be checked before to see what I need to stay away from. What a rollercoaster ride. Ladies thank you so much because every morning g I look forward to posting as ive learn so much. Good luck to all SE sucked.
-
Kayak compizine helps so does antivan as for fruits and veggies becareful because the carry fungus that when your counts are low can hurt youbut while your counts are up eat what ever you want I wouldn't eat out because bacteria is even worse.
-
Oops katiak

Having to go back to surgeon today for this infection in MX site. Went online last night ..put in staph infections..and one of the pics looked like what I have..now worried with that. He is going to do emblazon of dead tissue..said 20 min in office but if cavity is bigger than he thinks will have to more to operating room..sighhh..he said I wouldn't feel it..so wouldn't need to take narcotics..but I do see a ativan in the coming hours. I was so hoping infection would be clearing up quick..ready to start chemo and get this madness done with it. I wish I were where ya'll are at...
HOWEVER, I know is no fun! Prayers that everyone has easy time with it today and min side effects.
Maureen-Have you tried the ice chips/Popsicles in your mouth while getting treatment? I'm not sure if you have to do from very beginning or could still start?
-
Thank you Oceanwarrior!
Day 7 post chemo (A/C) and I'm doing pretty well. Followed the medication schedule religiously and hydrated like crazy. I ate many small meals throughout the day and a slice of toast usually helped if I felt a little queezy.
I did have a night of fevers the other day and still feeling wiped from that. Taste buds are starting to go a little. Hot flashes have started, too.
But all in all, OK.
To those ladies starting today, my prayers and warm thoughts are with you! -
Good Morning Ladies,
I had my first chemo of Cytoxin and Taxofere yesterday. I was scared and nervous, not knowing the exact process or the the outcome. The worse part of the whole treatment was Fear of the Unknown. I breezed through it good, the whole process took about 3 hours for me. The last hour of my treatment, I actually felt my energy level start dropping, a little shaky in the kneesd, but it was still manageable.
I Got home and immediately started drinking my fluids, yesterday I drank approx 180 oz of water (ice cold), I tried drinking a cup of coffee but that didn't taste good. I also ate a couple mini meals, to try and get my strength back up and to help prevent any nausea feelings I had. Around 10PM that night, I had to take Phenergan to relieve some nausea that I was experiencing. I wasn't going to take any chances.
I did feel some tingling in my little and ring finger toward the end of the night, but it didn't last long. The other thing I experienced was being Cold most of the day....
This morning, the only thing so far is, that tired feeling, and my tongue a little touchy, and I got the Hiccups a lot this morning.
We will get through this Ladies, Just pray to God, and He will protect and answer us.....

Port went in yesterday with margins widened on the mx side. Feel good except the first port they put in failed so they put in a second one. Doesn't give me any confidence at this point. Lots of old ports were recalled. Anyone have any issues with a BardPort?
-
Dlm425, You have brought up something I have been wondering about, Medical marajuana. Does it really help, did you get a perscription from your oncologist? Anyone else using this. I was gonna try and start a thread asking about it but I can't figure out how to start a thread.
Ckmoss, I am with you, anxiously waiting! Sorry you have to go thru all this with an infection, it's one thing after another.
-
My port kills. It's the worst part of this experience for me. I dunno what kind it is!😩😩😩

Hi all,
I just had my first treatment today, (AC x 4 then 12 weekly Taxol). So far I have no side effects with the exception of a little headache. I'm going to try to rest a bit. I am glad I have one treatment down! Will try to do my best to follow all the great advice from everyone on these boards. You are all in my thoughts.
