Yay Bren!!!! I'm so happy for your excellent results! That is wonderful news and worthy of some celebrating... Champagne... Limo ride... Or even just a restful and comfy night's sleep!
-
Bren58-So happy for you!!!
PT has helped with the cording so I am feeling much better.
Had my first Radiation tx today....only 32 to go!
Someone had asked about booster rads in an earlier post. My understanding is that the booster targets the area where the cancer originated. I'll have 5 boosters after tx 28. -
Bren-
Congratulations! This is wonderful news. It has been a long road and your path is now cleared and sunny skies are just ahead.
Sandra60 - Excellent news about finishing up the radiation. You and I were very close on our schedules and it is awesome that we have all reached or are just about to reach the finish line. I finished up last week and honestly that was the week that was hardest on my skin. I strongly recommend that you ask your nurse about Silvadene. It has made a huge difference in my skins recovery. The creams were great for a while but in the end this prescription is what has helped most with the healing.
Wishing you well!!!
-
Hi Donster - yes I was given slivadene already and it is really helping - especially below my breast . Congrats on being finished with rads !
Hot flashes are about my only SE currently - will keep me warm next winter but the simmer is looking quite steamy right now - wish that was from a romantic interlude instead of from tami -
Sandra. LOL Romamtic interlude
I think we could all use one of those about now!

Hey Ladies - it's been a while. How is everyone?? Let's have a check in.
Chemo - done, hysterectomy - done, Radiation - 4 more to go. Bone scan - clean, Left breast mammo,us,mri - clean. Lost 10 pounds of chemo weight. Having to shave legs again yay and boo at the sametime. Lost my lower eye lashes but they are coming back. Hair is coming back slow - it looks like i have a 5 o'clock shadow. Things have been good at work - everyday I can feel myself getting stronger mentally and physically. I've changed some of my eating habits - this one is taking a little bit longer with the kids and DH
We are getting ready to go on family vacation (Folly Beach, SC - near charleston...ever been?) early july. When I get back I am having a Left MX and then I am done.
Hope everyone is well!
-
Hi Jen! Glad you checked in. I've been thinking about the December group. I finished rads ten days ago and am really feeling good. I see the MO on Friday and will get my tamoxifen script. My hair is coming in salt n pepper but completely covering my scalp. My eyebrows had thinned a lot but they're back. And yes back to shaving my legs! I have lost about 8 pounds as I'm back to being a vegetarian only this time it's not just avoiding meat and eating crap but following a whole foods plant based diet. Basically no processed junk and adding lots of fruits, veggies, beans etc. After going thru the loss of tastebuds during chemo I am so happy to be eating and enjoying real food. I'm in awe of melon and peppers and avocado! I hope everyone is coming out if the intense treatment stages and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
-
Hi, so nice to be reminded to check in. Thanks jenjenl!
I had a very hard time with the first half of chemo (AC) but did better on the taxol. Had my bilateral mastectomy April 2 with direct to implant reconstruction (gummy bear silicone implants). All surgery went very well and (because I've done yoga consistently for years now, I think), I recovered range of motion very quickly according to my PS.
I am now exercising more--added aerobics and some weight training (very modest) and have lost 12 pounds from that and eating a plant-based diet. Miss my cookies, cakes, etc. terribly.
I will have my nipples and aureolas done in September. Wanted the summer off.
Hair growing back in salt and pepper to the point that I'm not wearing wigs or scarves unless a special occasion like a wedding. Feels nice to finally go "topless". The flip side is the hair growing back on legs and now having to have facial waxing again. But that is such small potatoes.
Life is good again, which during chemo, I could never imagine happening. I know I wouldn't have fared nearly so well without the support of women on this board!
Looking forward to others checking in!

Nice to hear how some of you are doing! I feel like I have recovered from most of the the chemo SE's. I lost all the chemo weight but really need to get back into shape! April surgery has delated that a little. My hair is about 1/4" long. I can't tell yet whether it will be straight or curly. Still have not had to shave my legs
I have to do Herceptin until November, and I will start on Tamoxifen or an AI in July after I see MO again.
I am doing PT to break up cording under my arm due to the surgery. Decided not to do rads as I do not think the benefit outweighs the risks in my situation.
One step at a time and we will all be able to put this in the rearview mirror!
-
Hey y'all,
Sounds like everyone is doing well! It makes my heart happy to read your posts!!!
I am feeling good and have increased my walking to 5 days a week. Sadly, my chemo weight is sticking. I can feel my body getting firmer and my clothes fitting better but the chemo weight is not dropping off. I'm envious of you guys!!! Hair growth up top is super slow but it is coming. I really want to ditch all my hats but I think I have a week or three of still needing them.
Finished chemo in April and started Tamoxifen. I have found Tamoxifen to be a breeze. I take it at bedtime and while it does cause hot flashes in my sleep, I have learned to just notice them and let them go. They don't trouble me too much. I meet with a plastic surgeon on Tuesday to talk about options. Planning to start reconstruction in the fall, likely with TE's followed by silicone implants.
My best news is that I feel like my husband and I have our sex life back! It has taken several weeks but we now have a good rhythm and had fun together last night in a way that was reminiscent of life before BC. I'm lucky to have married a man who is an awesome communicator and perseveres and who helps me let go and have fun!
We are taking the family to Disneyland in a week to celebrate my 10 year old's graduation from elementary school, my 14 year old's graduation from middle school, and my graduation from breast cancer treatment!!!!
Thanks again to all of you for being part of the journey. You made the dark days much easier!!
-
Kudos to all for making it through treatment ! Nicole it sounds like a really fun trip to disneyland with your family - enjoy !
Tamoxifen seems to be ok with me as well . Hot flashes come and go - usually at night - but overall no major se's . I too am on a mostly plant based diet and have increased my exercise - I either walk 45 mins a day or go to fitness club or ride my bike - I try to do something every single day !!'. I've lost weight a but have more to go .
Thanks to the group for all your support and help - getting stronger every day and wishing hoping - praying - same for all !! -
Sorry I went MIA on you ladies! I feel bad for not checking in as often. I have been so busy finishing school, graduated 4 weeks ago and immediately started my practicum. Then I took a promotion at work which has kept me running from the moment I walk in the door there until I leave. I'm glad to read through and see everyone's progress!! My hair is coming back pretty well, I think the Biotin is helping with that. I ran into another BC survivor at my chemo center during my last Herceptin infusion and she finished chemo 10 days after I did but has less than half the amount of hair I do. So I'm guessing it's because of the Biotin (??) Leg hair is one unwanted side effect lol! I joined a gym about 4 weeks ago and have lost 8 pounds now. I gained 10 with chemo so almost have that amount dropped off, but I want to drop at least 25 more beyond that. Had my exchange surgery for my new implants at the beginning of May. Recovery from that was a breeze compared to bmx. I was expecting to be a little larger in size than I turned out, but I guess when I lose the weight it will look better to me. I have a thing about my boobs (foobs) should stick out farther than my stomach :-P
Hope you all are doing well!!! xoxo
-
Steiner,
My boobs are smaller now with the implants, and I'm eating and working out so that the bottom half of my body fits the top. I really like the smaller size but I agree with you about the need to drop the weight cosmetically but more important health-wise!
Let's stay in touch!
Hugs,
Peggy -
I am so glad that it sounds like everyone is doing really well! We weathered the chemo storm and can put those dark days behind us! I hope everyone has a great summer!
-
I went for a run today for the first time in a long time. Running with boobs that stay in place (thanks to a double mastectomy with implants), short hair (thanks to chemo), and a tanned chest (thanks to radiation) is fabulous!! How's that for finding a silver lining! Happy Father's Day ladies!
-
I love your attitude Gwen - go for it and never look back ! I am doing a bike ride for cycstic fibrosis this Saturday in half moon bay south of San Francisco - 60 miles with some climbing and rolling hills - I've lost 10 pounds , colored my salt and pepper hair ( it came in that way ) a light brown and eating better . The only problem I have is still popping the Xanax and tried to get off but go vertigo and dizzy spells - need to taper off it .
-
Wow Sandra! 60 mile ride! That's awesome! Good luck!!!
I had my hair "trimmed" yesterday by my hairdresser and great friend. I'm still wearing my wig except at home but had her shape up what she could and basically cut the wild hairs on the back of my neck. It just felt so good to be back in her hairdressing chair! I'm heading to the beach on Monday and think I might toss the wig at least while on the beach. So ready to move forward! -
Ditch the wig...Ditch the wig!
-
Finished the last of 33 rads today! See my MO on Friday to start tamoxifen.
So ready to put this chapter behind me (although I received many blessings during it)!
Thanks to all of you for this lifeline! -
Kslansky, doing a happy dance for you! You've beat the beast and now you can begin to pick up the pieces of your life (probably picked some up during rads) and sew them back together with new parts for a beautiful quilt...
Hugs,
Peggy -
Hello ladies, so good to see everyone checking in and feeling good. I am doing well, I am in therapy, I want to come out of this with a healthy body as well as mind. Energy is so much better than with chemo! First three month check up is in a couple of weeks. Feel like stabilizing! Congrats lady and glad everyone is well!
-
Another AWOL Dec Chemo groupie checking in! I finally finished Taxol on June 7th. I believe my RBC's made an appearance about 5 days ago, so starting to really run instead of intervals. This 6 months of Chemo trumps my first bout with Chemo, but it is great now to keep active all day instead of my afternoon/evening horizontal position on the couch.
I still have one TE and not sure what to do about the side where they removed the TE. I have two balanced forms for that side that I love. The one I keep in my new sports bra and then use the stick on one for daily wear. I started all this surgery, etc two days after my cross country season finished in Nov. I want to have my strength back and feeling good when the ladies return on Aug 25th. So I am a bit leary of doing any other surgeries now. If anyone can advise on the exchange process and how that recovery went I would be thankful. I think it would be nice to get rid of that TE if I could.
I am so glad we all are on the other side. The vacations, graduations and fitness and health plans sound great.
-
Hi ladies hope your 4th of july was a good one i have good news my nails and hair are growing back yayyyyy! been feeling good and now getting ready for reconstruction and am excited about it. still I get tired and have bouts with not sleeping but I can deal with that just taking it a day at a time
-
Today was the best day I have had solo since this whole BC journey started October 2012. A lot of things came together for me emotionally and spiritually on a four hour car trip, alone.
Physically I am feeling better than I did before BC because I am eating healthy and exercising six days a week. No more wigs and scarves. I am comfortable in my short self-styling white hair for now.
Life is good. I hope it is for you to.
Hugs,
Peggy -
Yay for feeling good!! I was just thinking about it yesterday. I feel better than I felt before BC. Not sure if it's because chemo and rads are over.... Or if that cancer was actually taking a toll on me... Or if I'm so grateful now for not being in a chemo fog, or having to watch my arm range if motion, or being able to eat and taste the most wonderful fruits and veggies now, or perhaps a combo of all. I also like to think the Tamoxifen is making my bones stronger. I've been running the couch to 5k program and loving it. I'm still wearing my wig to work and in town but not for exercise or at home. In this Maryland heat having super short hair is so awesome. I think our timing for chemo was pretty ideal. Have a great weekend ladies and keep posting!
-
i only wear the wig if I am going to the DR's or out to eat other wise i wear a light scarf I had a lady really stare at me at Walmart the other day i almost asked her what was she staring at? besides she had a bald spot on her head maybe she had cancer too ?
-
Hi ladies !
Thought I would check in too ! My hair is really filling in and I am just wearing cute hats when I go out - although going to a party next weekend and will probably sport my long hair wig .
Glad most of you are feeling better ! Congrats Sharon on being done !!!
I am tolerating the tamox ok - the only problem I have now is tapering off he Xanax - it is not easy ! I am down to .25 mg a day so am close . I feel great in the am but by the evening get edgy and feel like the back of my head ring pulled backward ! I will get through but my advice - if your dr ever offers it to you - refuse !! -
Sandra60,
I am going off Klonopin, a cousin of Ativan. The way my doc is doing it is through a compounding pharmacy where they put it in liquid form and you go down by 10 percent until you adjust to that and then go down 10 percent of what is remaining.
If it makes you feel any better, I've heard the last decreases are the most difficult and then you're done.
I am just beginning the taper. All benzodiazepines are difficult to stop using but no one should do so suddenly and without some kind of medical supervision. If you are on a fairly large dose and go off of it suddenly you could experience some really nasty side effects from the abrupt stop.
Hugs and wish me luck,
Peggy -
Great to hear from everyone. I have given up tge wig too . Mine looks like a mostly grey buzz cut and Gwen is right. It is nice in this heat. Might try to spike it up a bit when it gets a little longer the Dh thinks it would be cute.
Picked up my Vit D and Calcium today. I need to call the insurance company about the arimidex to find out the hold up
have a good week everyone
